NEW YORK, NY - APRIL 09: People walk past an advertisement for the Nokia Lumia 900 phone, which runs on a Windows platform, in the window of an AT&T store on April 9, 2012 in New York City. The marketing of the new phone has been criticized as it officially went on sale on Easter day when stores of it's exclusive carrier AT&T were closed. The Lumia 900, which costs around $100 with a one year contract, includes an 8 megapixel camera, and optics from German lens specialist Carl Zeiss. The phone which is focused to rival the Apple iPhone and Google Android smartphones is powered by a 1.4-GHz Snapdragon processor and also has a front-facing camera for videoconferencing. Russia snubs Google for Android-style tablet

The Russian government has built a tablet computer using an Android-style operating system but deliberately avoids Google. Russia is wary of Google's operating system, reportedly believing that data collected and stored in Google databases could find its way into the hands of the US government.( With the F.B.I. entrenched in their offices, this is not merely a reasonable suspicion, but a virtual certainty ) The project has been run out of a military research facility but is privately funded.

"Android-style"
The Telegraph once against fails to understand the basics of technology. This is an Android tablet. Simple. It's not a Google device.
There is nothing "Android-style" about it. Android is an open-source project. Anybody can take the code and do what they like with it. As it's open-source anybody (including the Russians) can submit their code changes upstream.
Plenty, and I mean plenty, of existing phones and tablets on the market already don't use Google. The Amazon Kindle Fire, Archos tabs, and so on.

Here is something you can do wherever you are, if you have access to a telephone. Please share to help stop the torture.

If you think it is wrong to American law enforcement officials to torture Americans who are trying to protect their property and the land they love, let alone with TransCanada—and China behind them—encouraging these acts of extreme violence, make a few calls. This is violating people's constitutional right to not suffer cruel and unusual punishment, among many reasons it is unconscionable and despicable. Creating open wounds and then deliberately dousing them with pepper spray is definitely cruel and unusual, and if we show them that the eyes of the world are on them (wake up!), maybe it will not become usual. You never know, you or your community could be next.

Take a few minutes and call. You can start any time, no need to wait, FB just forces you to put in a date, but the project is ongoing and already begun. Click t
o see more on the event page to learn more and get the numbers. Knock some chinks in the wall of their greed with your phone calls and let the light in.

Texas, I am so sorry it is so tough, and so proud of you for the stand you are making. What they are doing to your land is wrong, what they are doing to you is unconscionable. An Idaho grandma holds you in her aching heart.

‎"I messed up bad." That's what Annie Dookhan, a former Massachusetts state chemist at the heart of a state drug lab scandal, told investigators when they discovered what she had done. It could be the understatement of the year.

Isn't it interesting how all news reporting on the Jill Meagher case has ceased, despite completely failing to provide:

1) evidence linking the suspect to the victim
2) a confession
3) explanation of how the police found the body
4) evidence of criminal past of the suspect

and despite:

1) widespread dissimenation of the name of the suspect
2) rumour and gossip leaked to social media about the suspect
3) photos of the suspect leaked to social media

Now the media is complaing that social media is the problem, when it was the media which led the charge in violating the rights of the accused.

Despite all of this noise, we actually know nothing substantive about the case. If the suspect (now on remand under maximum security) confesses between now and January we will never get any facts at all (as with the Martin Bryant conviction), other than journalistic spin and hyperbole, and appeals to emotion.

This is the way the CRIMINAL justice system works in Australia.

Perpetrators are guilty by decree, while the media spins the illusion of due process and the presumption of innocence.

Unfortunately, despite making a ne w line of ketchup without HFCS, now it uses sugar from GMO sugar beets (a small step up, but still gmo and still doused with tons of pesticides). It keeps getting more and more difficult to buy foods without GMOs in them in some way, we now have only cane sugar, molasses, honey, maple and agave syrups, and of course stevia to choose from. Please stop by Heinz Ketchup's page to tell them how you feel about this or contact their customer service line to do so in person.

Huawei, Controversial Chinese Tech Firm That Once Partnered With Bain Capital, Slammed By GOP

The House intelligence committee on Monday will release a damning investigation into the Chinese telecom firm Huawei Technologies, according to a "60 Minutes" investigation that aired Sunday night.

A principal aim of the two-track media and political onslaught is to warn U.S. companies not to do business with Huawei, arguing that its close relationship with the Chinese government creates unacceptable security risks.
Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Mich.), the Republican chairman of the panel, delivered that warning bluntly. "If I were an American company today -- and I'll tell you this as the chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence -- and you are looking at Huawei, I would find another vendor if you care about your intellectual property, if you care about your consumers' privacy, and you care about the national security of the United States of America,"

The Mississippi River Alluvial Aquifer is a broad underground belt that tracks the river and flows beneath dozens of Louisiana parishes, but is not a continuously linked formation of ground water. The aquifer under Assumption Parish is not used as its major water source — Bayou Lafourche is — but some parish officials say they are concerned the odorless, colorless gas underground could accumulate unseen to explosive concentrations if left unchecked. Dioxins – Causing generations of damage

A new study out this week shows how exposure to environmental pollutants can cause genetic mutations. Now epigeneticists found that some exposures can change how genes are expressed and then are passed on for generations. “Not only does the individual exposed get the disease, but it’s transmitted to great-grandchildren with no exposure,” says Michael Skinner, Washington State University. Published Wednesday, September 26, in the journal PLoS One: When Washington State University researchers exposed pregnant rats to low-levels of dioxin, the first…

Farmers in the area, who recently suffered through the one of the worst droughts in years, are still harvesting corn and soybean crops, and agriculturalists are waiting to see what effect the weather could have on the plants.

Because warmer air can hold more water, climate change will give the potential for stronger rainfall events. What this means for the risk of flooding, however, will vary widely from location to location depending on local climatic changes that at present are difficult to predict with confidence.

Halas and Webb are among a number of educators caught in the crossfire of a nationwide debate on teachers' rights beyond campus. About 20 percent of teachers are moonlighting in second jobs as their salaries have taken a hit due to massive budget cuts. That figure is up from about 11 percent in 1981.
Educators are increasingly trolling "help wanted" ads and are taking on second jobs as bartenders, waitresses, school bus drivers and the like. And teachers say they do it because they need the money.

Indigenous blockade expands against massive dam in Sarawak

Indigenous people have expanded their blockade against the Murum dam in the Malaysian state of Sarawak, taking over an additional road to prevent construction materials from reaching the dam site. Beginning on September 26th with 200 Penan people, the blockade has boomed to well over 300. Groups now occupy not just the main route to the dam site, but an alternative route that the dam's contractor, the China-located Three Gorges Project Corporation, had begun to use.

These kind of shenangins virtually guarantee a war is coming. No sovereign nation can put up with being treated this way indefinitely.

There will be war my friends, and I hate to say it, but it will be a very nasty war indeed.

The coming war will be an Epoch changing moment, and (IMHO) just like WWII it will end in the fall of the Tyrant Empire.

It is possible that this might happen without major cities being nuked, but I wouldn't bet on it.

It is really a very sad time in which to live, but there will be a light at the end of this tunnel.

Don't despair. Truth always wins in the end.

NEW YORK: A US judge formally ordered Iran, al Qaeda and several other defendants Wednesday to pay $6 billion compensation to the victims of September 11, 2001, in a largely symbolic ruling.

Although Iran denies any connection to 9/11, it was included in the list of alleged culprits by the US District Court in New York, along with the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah, Afghanistan’s Taliban guerrillas and al Qaeda, which took credit for the massive terror attack.

Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is also named.

However, the money, awarded for economic, personal and punitive damages for a total of $6,048,513,805, is unlikely to be recovered.

Iran is in a tense standoff with the United States over multiple issues, especially its nuclear industry and alleged plan to build an atomic weapon. Iranian-backed Hezbollah has no relations with the United States.

Al Qaeda founder Osama bin Laden, who is also named, was killed by US Navy SEALs in a raid inside Pakistan in 2011. The Taliban are in an active war with US-led troops across Afghanistan.

The ruling caps a series of court decisions prompted by lawsuits filed by families of 47 victims from among the nearly 3,000 killed on 9/11.

Last year, Judge George Daniels signed a judgment in favor of the plaintiffs. A magistrate then calculated the recommended compensation, which Daniels on Wednesday approved in his ruling.

Bin Laden and al Qaeda claimed responsibility for the attacks, in which hijacked airliners were used to bring down the World Trade Center towers in New York and to crash into the Pentagon near Washington, DC.

The Taliban ruled Afghanistan at the time and were giving shelter to al Qaeda. Iran was blamed by the US court partly because some of the hijackers passed through the country on their way to carrying out the attacks.
