Freeze! Or the guide dog gets it! How could any police office (in broad daylight) confuse a white stick with a samurai sword?
According to the officer involved, he mistook Colin Farmer’s white stick
for a samurai sword. As you do. It’s the kind of mistake anyone could make.
So when the 61-year-old stroke victim ignored an instruction to stop, the
cop pumped 50,000 volts into him.

Why The Nobel Peace Prize For The EU Is Flawed...... just like the EU itself
If the EU keeps on pushing for more centralized powers to be put in its own
hands, powers that will need to be taken away from member countries, it
will not be a force for peace, but for fighting in the streets and other
kinds of conflict and dissension. Not exactly Alfred Nobel's intention for

Arizona's Maricopa county listed the wrong date in the Spanish version of
voter registration cards, a development likely to further complicate tense
relations between local authorities and Latino residents.
The county's elections office says it mailed out nearly 2 million new voter
registration cards. Only about 50 of the cards -- handed out
over-the-counter at its offices -- had the error, it said.
Instead of November 6, the Spanish translation said the election would take
place on November 8.

Why We Must Break Up Canada's Media Cartel
Once you have a thoroughly corporatized mass media, rife with concentration
of ownership and cross-ownership, your democracy is in peril. It's not a
question of if but a question of when and how badly democratic freedoms
will suffer.
A corporate mass media does not trade in information. It trades in
messages conveying the ideas it wants disseminated. These can have little
or no relationship to actual information or even truth and, unlike
information, messaging is a very lucrative commodity for corporate mass
media.

In determining whether speech is hate speech context is critical
*Lund v. Boissoin*, 2012 ABCA 300 holds, very properly, that in determining

The software, legitimately produced and sold by British firm Gamma

Another Transfer of Wealth is Occurring in America
Majia here: Another transfer of wealth is occurring as properties formerly
held by individuals are transferred to wealthy investment entities
representing the Wall Street interests.
Federal efforts to help distressed borrowers are sabotaged as states use
foreclosure suit funds to plug budget deficits, rather than help the
distressed borrowers.
Wall Street already has a plan for their latest asset seizure - rent backed
securities.
Here are the articles from which I derive my analysis.

*THURSDAY, OCTOBER 18, 2012*
*Part 4—The problem is (also) us:* How does our rapidly failing nation
pretend to discuss major topics?
For starters, consider that front-page report by Annie Lowrey in last
month’s New York Times.
Lowrey wrote a “Washington Memo” about Mitt Romney’s absurd tax proposal.
There was nothing “wrong” with her report—although she pretty much buried
the lede.
According to a meticulous study, Romney’s ridiculous tax proposal isn’t
“mathematically possible.” Lowrey failed to cite that eye-catching
statement until she hit paragraph 20.

US Imperialism Unleashed: Descent into Barbarism
Global Research
Ben Schreiner
The triumph of imperialism leads to the annihilation of civilization. Rosa
Luxemburg, The Junius Pamphlet
With signs of a global economic downturn mounting, US aggression across the
Middle East and North Africa ratchets up. And once again, US imperialism
stands poised to swing open the gates of Hell.
The choice presently confronting humanity, then, is one between imperialism
on the one hand, and the struggle against imperialism on the other.

something to live for

Report questions claims of vaccine efficacy and their rationale for use
Having covered the vaccine issue and all it's pitfalls on countless
occasions, the insincerity/hypocrisy of the pharma/medical complex never
ceases to amaze me!!
As you can see by the title of this post, a report has been released that
questions the effectiveness of vaccines in preventing flu, and of course,
the rationale for promoting their use as ineffective as they really are.
So, let me explain why the use of flu vaccine is promoted year after year
by governments the world over.
In a nutshell. It is justification for taxpayer money to be misused to fill
the coffers of the pharma... more »
31 Days of Photo Props: Pearls and Feathers
*Have you entered the Owl Necklace Giveaway yet?*
One of my favorite shoots to do with small babies involves pearls and
feathers. These darling old-fashioned pictures look smashing in black and
white or sepia, it gives them that vintage look everybody seems to be
looking for these days.
I prefer to shoot these photos with the baby just in a diaper, with a
diaper cover on, that way the pearls really stand out. These photos have
three aspects, a headband of some kind, I like to use a largish flowers, a
strand of pearls to go around their neck and then a pile of feather boas

Happy Birthday to Chuck Berry, 86.
Some good stuff:
1. A twofer: Irin Carmon interviews the woman who asked the question about
pay equity at the debate; and Jamelle Bouie debates Buzz Bissinger.
2. To complement those: John Sides on undecided voters.
3. Another twofer: Ezra Klein reads the debate transcript, parts one and two.
4. TPC lets you play with tax reform ideas.
5. And Paul Waldman looked deeper at debate questions than I did, but had
the same conclusion: no evidence of bias, and the perception of bias was
probably produced by the bunching of tough questions for Romney a... more »

Conscience and Credibility
Amid the cynical furor of Canadian politics, Andrew Coyne singles out four
people -- three men and one woman -- who have credibility because they are
guided by conscience, not convenience. Coyne writes:
Politics is about packs; the more ruthless, more disciplined, more
pack-like of the parties mauls the others into submission. It prizes
loyalty, not before all other virtues, but to their exclusion. *We hunt
together*, the aspiring politician is told. *Stick with the pack*. And so
each learns to scrape and smear, to manipulate and deceive, to promise one
