Roswell vs. Circleville

KRandle at A Different Perspective - 3 minutes ago
It has been suggested that a find of a weather balloon sometime prior to July 5, 1947, is similar to that made in Roswell a few days later. A story, headlined, “Flying Disc Believed Found on Pickaway [Ohio] Farm,” published on July 5, 1947, in the *Circleville Herald*, is similar to that published on July 8 by many newspapers around the county including the *Roswell Daily Record*. It is believed that this is, in a similar sense, the Roswell story and how the same explanation can be applied in Roswell that was applied in Ohio. That short article in the Ohio newspaper and later picke... more »

Czech regional elections: Pilsen defends some decency

Luboš Motl at The Reference Frame - 30 minutes ago
Political colors in regional politics are fortunately not as important as they are in the national and international politics. In the regions, the governors are ultimately doing almost the same things and they have to succeed with predetermined resources, and so on. Personal preferences and abilities of individual politicians/managers are arguably more important. However, these may be just words I designed to reduce my immense dissatisfaction with the regional elections in Czechia that took over yesterday and today. Modern Czechia is divided to 14 regions. 7 Nasty and Crazy Effects of Pesticides in Food, Exposure

Mark Daniels at GLOBAL POLITICAL AWAKENING - 30 minutes ago
Lisa Garber When asked by a skeptical friend why you buy organic, do you find yourself tongue-tied? Was it obesity? Or thyroid problems? Why should you buy organic? There are numerous reasons to skip the mainstream supermarket food and shop at an organic grocer, but just one of those reasons revolves around the effects of pesticides. Unfortunately, pesticides attack your body on several fronts. Keep this list handy the next time you find yourself wondering if you should buy a carton of conventional strawberries rather than organic to potentially save a few pennies. Remember th... more »

This is a curious story. Many of the media reports seem to be focused on a suggestion the mother should not have been in remand custody at all. What's more ahe was charged with having breached her former release conditions and that alone is a basis for detention. facility in Benghazi, Libya identified by a newspaper as a "CIA base" ......US intelligence Believe they may have suffered a Set back

Lynsey at The Coming Crisis - 8 hours ago
Libya suffered a set back when the west stood by and did Nothing while the country was allowed to spiral into total lawlessness after they financed and armed terrorists within the country. Why was nothing said or done when ethnic cleanings was going on in the country after the troops finished bombing the hell out of the country? http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/10/13/us-usa-libya-intelligence-idUSBRE89B1EU20121013

Element 113 Discovery Claimed

arclein at Terra Forming Terra - 10 hours ago
This sounds like we will finally be able to declare element 113 as discovered. This work has been inching along for decades and it is always welcome to add another unique element to the periodic table. It is even better to characterize it. It would not surprise me to discover much higher zones of stability as the years go by although our ability to work with the material will also need to be revolutionized. All good work and welcome to see as it has been a while. *Japanese Team Claims Discovery Of Elusive Element 113, And May Get To Name It* *The claim needs to... more »

Roswell Witness Exon

arclein at Terra Forming Terra - 10 hours ago
The source speaking to the Roswell issue certainly had the security clearance and rank levels to pretty well know the whole story that he was involved with. All others were at best aware of small parts of a confusing picture and this has fueled speculation and conspiracy theories when the government chose to clam up. This was the first such event and since then, we can be sure protocols were put in place to acquire and deep six additional artifacts. This likely takes place in area 59. The materials acquired are described here and they are what one might expect. It is... more »

Erectile Biochemistry

arclein at Terra Forming Terra - 10 hours ago
Here we have a resolution on the biochemistry behind the sustainability of the penile erection and an obvious target for therapy. Also an obvious target for drug company research I am sure. The advent of drugs into this market did not provide an universally successful solution at all but provided some a partial solution. This left plenty of room for improvement although most likely think the problem is solved. Thus the continued press for research solutions. The real problem is to find solutions which can work with other pharmaceutical therapies that block the natural... more »

Crustal Breakup

arclein at Terra Forming Terra - 10 hours ago
This is possibly the first time we have observed the deep faulting created as a plate breaks free from part of itself in real time. Of course, this behavior is evident in the rocks themselves and is long established and well understood. At least, geology is now practiced everywhere and the globe is becoming heavily instrumented. The result is that occurrences are now been well observed and with computer technology, readily simulated and tracked. There is still plenty to do but the data base is nicely tightening up as is well demonstrated here. Of course, the process wi... more »

Free Download: Ayn Rand, "Anthem"

*"Anthem: Ayn Rand’s Dystopian Masterpiece"* by Roderick Long "In a Leningrad university classroom in the early 1920s, as the professor drones on about orthodox Marxist theory, a young woman with an intense gaze is writing furiously in her notebook. The woman is Alisa Rosenbaum, later to be famous as Ayn Rand, and her jottings do not concern the relationship between dialectical materialism and the dictatorship of the proletariat; they are notes for a play to be called Ego, about the rediscovery of individuality in a totalitarian society based on the worship of the collective. A Little Snow and An Epic Traffic Jam

Way Way Up at Fort McMurray Adventures - 12 hours ago
It looked like a pretty innocent dusting of snow this morning but it was anything but as the morning ride to work took a tad longer than expected. What is normally a 45 minute ride from my bus stop to where I get off at Suncor turned into a 4 hour morning odyssey. The culprit turned out to be a couple of spun out dump trucks at the bottom of Super Test Hill. I saw one stalled out along the shoulder and the other jackknifed in the ditch several feet off the road. All this meant that traffic was backed up from the bottom of the hill and all the way back into the city about 30km to... more »

Cleveland Bus Driver Suspended After Decking Unruly Female Rider With Brutal Bolo Punch

The vocally and physically abusive young woman didn't suddenly expect the rules to revert back to the year 1850 after she gave him a slap, did she?* *This portion of one report strikes me the most: "The driver then throws the woman off the stopped bus, though she climbs back aboard and tussles with him. Sunday Classics preview: The post-operatic Rossini

*Tenor Dalmacio Gonzalez sings the "*Cuius animam*" from Rossini's Stabat Mater -- in an August 1981 Proms performance with the Philharmona Orchestra conducted by Carlo Maria Giulini. (DG made a recording with the same forces as the Proms performance.)* *by Ken* It's impossible to talk about the career of Gioachhino Rossini (1792-1868) without taking note of the fact that, though he lived almost another 40 years, he completed his last opera, *William Tell*, in 1829, at the age of 37.
