The Debate Questions? Fair
Jonathan Bernstein at A plain blog about politics - 35 minutes ago
There's an early consensus that, in the words of Jonathan Chait, "Obama
enjoyed friendly questions from an audience that obviously leaned left" in
the second debate. Naturally, conservatives agree. I thought the questions

From the "Town Hall" audience questions, I count three that were solidly
pro-Obama and one that was somewhat pro-Obama; three solidly pro-Romney and
one somewhat pro-Romney; and three neutral ones.
So, why the false impression? I think it wa... more »

Natural Society, 16 October 2012
When asked by a skeptical friend why you buy organic, do you find yourself
tongue-tied? Was it obesity? Or thyroid problems? Why should you buy
organic? There are numerous reasons to skip the mainstream supermarket
food and shop at an organic grocer, but just one of those reasons revolves
around the effects of pesticides.
Unfortunately, pesticides attack your body on several fronts. Keep this

The creation of a wooly mammoth is becoming a realistic proposition and
from there to enhancing a living human being or producing an enhanced human
being is simply part of the same protocols. Of course the claim that we
will get this done in two years appears way over optimistic, but doing it
is also appearing to be a certainty.
It is also true that introducing enhanced DNA into the cells of a living
human being is revolutionary. Correcting errors is the easy part, but
enhancing abilities is the real payoff. One hardly knows were to start, but

This is obviously very good news. We have a method that at the least halts
disease progression. We swill take it. Most victims are identified fairly
early on just when they begin to notice a loss of motor function somewhere
on their bodies. Thus halting the progression is extremely important as it
will surely limit any disability and ongoing care costs.
This is now possible and I am sure that we can discover if the protocol is
tolerated well pretty quickly. If so, then rapid deployment will have a
huge humane incentive simply to stop further degeneration.

Romney Victory Predicted
arclein at Terra Forming Terra - 7 hours ago
I learned a long time ago that elections can be influenced by any number
of almost random story lines but that the weight of opinion will tend to
dominate. It took an extraordinary effort in 2008 to elect Obama including
keeping the candidate in a bubble and blocking access to plenty of
unflattering information. Today he must run on his current resume and it is
not compelling. It is hard to argue that he is indispensable.
The weight of opinion is slightly against Obama and Romney's task has been
to reassure and motivate his natural audience and this has so far succeeded... more »
Madagascar's Peopling
arclein at Terra Forming Terra - 7 hours ago
We have posted on this in the past but the key take home here is that a
ship load or perhaps even an expedition similar to Polynesian expeditions
took off from Indonesia and went with the winds until they fetched up on
Madagascar. What is noteworthy is just how small a founding group can be.
It is thus easy to backtrack for the far greater occupations of continents
that also likely were smallish one way trips.
The real problem is just how recent that event was. Sea beds have been
much lower and many more islands could have acted as stepping stones. I

"Mundus vult decipi, ergo decipiatur," a Latin phrase, means "The world
wants to be deceived, so let it be deceived." The saying is ascribed to
Petronius, a Roman satirist from the first century, CE. "The pontifex
maximus Scævola thought it expedient that the people should be deceived in
religion; and the learned Varro said plainly, that "there are many truths,
which it is useless for the vulgar to know; and many falsities which it is
fit the people should not suppose are falsities." Hence comes the adage
"Mundus vult decipi, decipiatur ergo."
