What do big journalists care about!

*WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 24, 2012 * *Marcus’ rules of order:* When last we looked in on Ruth Marcus, she was refusing to tell Post readers about Mitt Romney’s budget proposal. Today, she looks back on this year’s debates. In the process, she lets us see what big major journalists care about. Some of Marcus’ observations do involve serious topics. She notes that the fiscal cliff was never mentioned, in four debates with four different moderators. She notes other topics which went unmentioned—gun control, gay rights, Supreme Court nominations. UN calls for worldwide internet surveillance and data retention in the name of fighting terrorism

Madison Ruppert, *Contributor* The manufactured threat of terrorism has once again been used to push what would otherwise be unthinkable. In this case, the United Nations is exploiting the irrational fear of terrorism to justify international internet surveillance. In a new 148-page UN report released at a conference in Vienna entitled “The Use of the Internet for Terrorist Purposes” the UN claimed that the lack of an “internationally agreed framework for retention of data” is problematic along with open wireless internet networks in public places. Donald Trump's October surprise

It's that The Donald is still batshit crazy. Oh wait. That's not a surprise. We already knew that and I blame the media for his obvious lapse into insanity and inanity. If they ignored his pathetic attention seeking, he might be convinced to seek the professional mental health help he so obviously needs. Yesterday a small tornado, apparently, touched down on the street where lived before moving here -- about eight miles away. That's a reminder that many things we think can't happen can. Today, we had a longish area-wide power outage -- just a bird in a substation, poor thing, but another reminder. Our winter storms have come, and I and many others get to hunker down, unlike our utility district's heroic line workers. We have put up firewood, water, kerosene, gasoline and food, lucky us. Such a region initially established out to sea and generally upwind will produce a bloom that will likely migrate slowly toward the coast and along that coast establishing a maximum effect. It must be said that this area is ideal for this type of experiment as the currents and winds do coincide to drive surface waters inshore to maximize the fishery impact. End of The Obamney Universe And The Rebirth of Real American Leadership

Saman Mohammadi at The Excavator - 15 hours ago
Barack Obama, Mitt Romney, and their brainwashed, dumbed-down followers live in a fantasy-based universe where independent thought and the free expression of opinion are forbidden. It is a universe filled with *hate*, ignorance, collective insanity, and totalitarian propaganda. And apparently they still have horses and bayonets in this crazy universe. This makes sense because it is socially, culturally, intellectually, technologically, and politically sterile and backwards. Third Debate Shows Scumney Isn't Ready For Prime Time

By Manifesto Joe What seemed to emerge clearly from Monday night's final presidential debate between incumbent Barack Obama and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Scumney -- er, Romney, may have to get used to that if the bozo really gets elected -- is that he doesn't seem ready for prime time. Oh, he was very well-coached for all three encounters, and did well enough each time. An overscholarly Obama held him to a boring draw in the first debate, then showed a clear edge in the second. In the third, he administered a pretty thorough spanking, exposing some amateurish sides to Scumney ... more »

A historical Google Earth satellite image from 2007 shows what may be a tail, but this is less clear in more recent imagery. And then, to honor the spirit of the man we came to visit, we sat silently, as if on the stoop of his cabin with friends, knowing that any words, even his own, intruded on the haunting beauty of the place itself. Graph of the Day: Oceanic pH, 24 million years BP – Present

[image: Oceanic pH, 24 million years BP - present. The rapid change in ocean pH since the Industrial Revolution is likely the fastest in Earth’s history. Turley, C., et al. 2006] The oceans absorb large amounts of carbon dioxide emissions each day. As a result, their pH has declined by 30 percent since the beginning of the Industrial Revolution. This rapid change in ocean chemistry, called *ocean acidification*, is already threatening habitats like coral reefs, and the future of shellfish like oysters, clams, and mussels is also in jeopardy. This means that nations that rely heavi... more »

* "What Obamneycare Really Does"* by Paul Craig Roberts "Dr. Robert S. Dotson points out [in the following post- CP] that Obamneycare is two versions of the same thing. A person has to be gullible and uninformed to believe the claims of Obama and Romney that their replacements for Medicare will save money and improve care. What the schemes do is convert public monies into private profits. The exploding costs described by Dr. Dotson and the rising profits for private corporations are paid for by reducing health care.
