*“On Relationships In Your Political Life”*

“How many of you have ever been in an abusive relationship? Do you
currently adhere to a political party - more than just voting, but actually
adhering to one? You know what I’m talking about - phone banking, making
and distributing signs, public advocacy, maybe even more. Maybe you’re a
precinct captain, one of the folks who “runs” a county-level political
organization, or perhaps you’re involved at the state or even national
levels. If so, have you ever stopped to consider whether or not you’re

Norquist - Thinks HE is Georgia! Thinks HE is God.
Norquist’s response was sparked by an interview Chambliss gave to a local
Georgia station on Thursday where the senator said “I care more about my

“If we do it his way then we’ll continue in debt, and I just have a
disagreement with him about that,” Chambliss added.

Today's All-American WalMart Strike
Early this morning Senator Bernie Sanders tweeted that "WalMart has
established over 4,400 factories in China where workers have been paid as
little as 16 cents per hour." If you're ready to shrug your shoulders and
say that that isn't your problem, stop and think for a moment. You've heard
of outsourcing and off-shoring, right? This is what it is and this why the
American plutocrats who control 100% of the Republican Party and perhaps
half the Democratic Party say American workers have it too good and need to
compete. They'd like to see U.S. unions destroyed and U.S. workers comp... more »
Yet Even More on the Live Filibuster
Yes, I'm back on this one: the futility of the reformers' romantic
attachment to "talking" filibusters. I'd give it a rest, but we're only
weeks away from when reform will (probably) be considered
At any rate: several people more expert than myself have talked about this
over the last week, and if you still think the focus on forcing the
majority to talk is a good idea, I recommend looking at what they have to
say.
First, Greg Koger had a very interesting post pointing out that whether a
Merkley-style reform would work depends a lot on how exactly the rules are
changed. It's not en... more »

Shocking BBC bias as EU summit gets underway - The Commentator

Obligatory Black Friday post
Walmart is always the focus of our Black Friday voyeurism though all the
big box stores are just as guilty of exploiting their workers and ruining
the formerly thriving Main Streets of our youth. But in the end, none of us

There's a new twist to Black Friday this year because Walmart workers and
workers rights activists are pushing back with strike of sorts and various
protests across the nation. Not sure it's going to have much effect. The

Naked Man Climbs On To Whitehall Statue
A section of Whitehall has been closed off after a naked man was seen
straddling a statue.
Scotland Yard said it was believed that the man might have a knife as
officers shut down part of the road, near the heart of Westminster in
central London.
The man was seen balancing precariously on the head of the statue of Prince
George, the Duke of Cambridge, at first straddling the Duke's head, before
climbing up to stand on it.

Egyptian President Mohamed Mursi's decree exempting all his decisions from

Mursi's aides said the decree was to speed up a protracted transition that

general observation about merits of cases where bail is being considered:
[46] I wish to make one last comment on the jurisprudential aspect of this

Minority Report becomes reality: New software that predicts when laws are about to be broken
An artificial intelligence system that connects to surveillance cameras to
predict when people are about to commit a crime is under development,
funded by the U.S. military.
The software, dubbed Mind's Eye, recognises human activities seen on CCTV
and uses algorithms to predict what the targets might do next - then notify
the authorities.
The technology has echoes of the Hollywood film Minority Report, where
people are punished for crimes they are predicted to commit, rather than
after committing a crime.

I am a hopeless gardener. Life has no meaning if I'm not gardening. In the
winter, I content myself with my indoor plants; and, planning next year's
garden, of course. Besides, satisfying my craving for dirty hands, these
uses for pre-owned flower pots recycle, reduce, reuse and repurpose pots
that otherwise would have landed in the landfill.
The small, plastic conjoined pots that bedding plants come in make great
containers in which to start next year's seed.

33 homes must go after Indy blast
Thirty-three homes damaged in a house explosion this month will be razed,
officials in Indianapolis said.
The blast that rocked the Richmond Hill subdivision killed two people, John
and Jennifer Longworth. Dozens of homes also took a hit.
City officials this week said that of the 37 houses that were boarded up
after the Nov. 10 incident, four appeared to be repairable, according to
the Indianapolis Star-Tribune.

Jacob Provo and Joshua Anderson steal, kill Florida family's pet turkey for Thanksgiving meal
Gulf Breeze, Florida (PNJ) -- Tom the turkey had lived happily on Brian and
Christa Caponi's 6-acre spread in Gulf Breeze for the past year along with
their menagerie of cats, goats, a dog, chickens and roosters.
He was special among their 50 or so animals, Christa said.
"He was a family pet," she said. "It was like having a normal family dog."
But when her husband got up early Monday morning to feed the animals, the
30-pound Tom was missing.
He soon discovered a trail of blood and feathers and feared the worst.

James Bond, Ambiguously Gay Villains and Masculinity
The James Bond movies aren’t the first place most would look to learn about
masculinity; it’s an action movie, the special effects are always amazing,
and most of us just leave the gender analysis at home…BUT just humor me for
one scene. In my view the best part of an otherwise mediocre movie (sorry

Egypt protest call over President Mursi's sweeping powers
Opposition leaders in Egypt have called for large protests after President
Mohammed Mursi passed a decree giving himself sweeping new powers.
The decree states the president's decisions cannot be revoked by any
authority - including the judiciary.
It also opens the way for a retrial of people convicted of killings during
Egypt's 2011 uprising which toppled President Hosni Mubarak.
Mr Mursi's critics have denounced the move as a "coup against legitimacy".

Israel desire to attack Iran "childish" -Ahmadinejad
Israel has a "childish" desire to attack Iran and Tehran is capable of
defending itself, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Thursday.
"They wish to hurt the Iranian nation. They are waiting for the chance.
They known that Iran does not attack anybody and they know that Iran knows
how to defend itself," he told a news conference in the Pakistani capital
Islamabad.
"We don't accept the hegemony of Israel. They wish to attack Iran but it is

For Israel, Gaza Conflict Is Test for an Iran Confrontation
The conflict that ended, for now, in a cease-fire between Hamas and Israel
seemed like the latest episode in a periodic showdown. But there was a
second, strategic agenda unfolding, according to American and Israeli
officials: The exchange was something of a practice run for any future
armed confrontation with Iran, featuring improved rockets that can reach
Jerusalem and new antimissile systems to counter them.
It is Iran, of course, that most preoccupies Prime Minister Benjamin
Netanyahu and President Obama. While disagreeing on tactics, both have made
it clear that time is short,... more »

Egypt president cancels state visit to Pakistan
Egyptian President Mohamed Mursi cancelled a state visit to Pakistan on
Friday, government officials said, a day after granting himself extended

Price of milk makes Greeks' blood boil
To understand why milk costs more in Greek shops than anywhere else in the
European Union, Stathis Aravanis's farm is a good place to start.
Tall elm trees screen the 4 hectares (10 acres) of land that Aravanis farms
outside the small town of Orchomenos in central Greece, not far from the
ancient city of Thebes. The silence is broken only by the sound of grazing
cattle and a passing tractor.

Gaza at Crossroads
I sometimes wonder just what pundits are thinking. Israel has just used
Gaza as a shooting gallery without seriously risking life and limb and
sharply reducing the actual missile threat posed by Hamas. Even better they
were able to battle test the Iron Dome against a missile suite that
obviously is not even capable of hitting a target.
In the Aftermath, Hamas will loudly declare a victory and perhaps sober

Selective Oxidation Catalysts
This is actually a neat mechanical trick that at least alters the
selectivity profile of specific oxide catalysts. This will certainly
improve process yields for a range of applications which is always welcome
as that means sharply lowered costs.
With luck this can be tuned a great deal to affect many processes.
Obviously much more work should go into this field and include active
membranes and the like. The value is there even it it will always be
terribly specific.
