German foreign minister tells Berlin to boost embassy security
German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle urged the mayor of Berlin on Friday to tighten security at foreign embassies in the city, a day after 30 protesters stormed the grounds of the Iranian mission and pelted the building with stones. Westerwelle asked mayor Klaus Wowereit in a letter to act swiftly to remedy security shortcomings, citing 13 occasions over the past two years when embassies, including those of Libya and Nigeria, were attacked or occupied. http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/11/30/us-germany-embassies-security-idUSBRE8AT0UP20121130

Anonymous declares Internet war on Syria
Global hacking network Anonymous said it will shut down Syrian government websites around the world in response to a countrywide Internet blackout believed to be aimed at silencing the opposition to President Bashar al-Assad. Syria was plunged into communication darkness on Thursday when Internet connectivity stopped at midday. Land lines and mobile phones networks were also seriously disrupted. The Syrian government said "terrorists" had attacked Internet lines but the opposition and human rights groups suspect it to be the work of the authorities. http://www.reuters.com/article... more »
Egyptians fume over constitution
Thousands of Egyptians protested against President Mohamed Mursi on Friday after an Islamist-led assembly raced through approval of a new constitution in a bid to end a crisis over the Islamist leader's newly expanded powers. EBay's double tax base prompts calls for investigation
Britain and Germany may have missed out on a combined $1 billion in sales tax since online marketplace eBay picked a tiny Luxembourg office as its base for EU sales, a shift that lawmakers say should now be investigated. EBay's nomination of Luxembourg unit eBay Europe Sarl - with a staff of nine - as its provider of services to EU clients allows it to charge customers in Europe a low rate of sales tax, often known as Value Added Tax, helping it to compete against rivals. http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/11/30/net-us-ebay-tax-europe-idUSBRE8AT0S720121130
Obama takes "fiscal cliff" on the road; Republicans stew
President Barack Obama, reapplying his re-election campaign theme of protecting the middle class, heads to Pennsylvania on Friday suggesting that Republicans could spoil Christmas by driving the country over the "fiscal cliff." The president's road trip, visiting a factory that makes Tinkertoys, is infuriating Republicans, with House of Representatives Speaker John Boehner calling it a "victory lap" Thursday as he rejected Obama's proposals to avoid the cliff, which is a combination of tax increases and spending cuts set to start taking effect in January. http://www.reuters.com/art... more »

"We receive a lot of requests for names, addresses and phone numbers," he told the Milan church's website. "That's why we have set up a switchboard in our (offices)." Despite Beltway Conventional Wisdom, Democrats Could Win Big In 2014... If They Actually Behave Like Democrats
In 2010, Beltway Democrats miscalculated badly. Many of them-- with the acquiescence and even the encouragement of the leadership-- decided the safer bet was to vote like a Republican rather than to embrace and explain a progressive vision for solving real problems that face the country. So Democratic voters didn't go to the polls and dozens of House Democrats-- mostly Blue Dogs and New Dems but a few good people as well-- lost their seats. Preventing another catastrophe like that should be a big focus of the House Dems. But they're off on a really bad foot already, having chosen ... more »

The problem is that Reagan did not become president until January 1981, and his tax policy was not fully implemented until a couple of years later (and arguably not until his second term, when we got very significant tax reform). Do You Eat Butter or Margarine for Health? by Raine Saunders
Source of poster: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Agriculture-Society/217990047058 Do You Eat Butter or Margarine for Health? by Raine Saunders Agriculture Society, 19 January 2010 It’s one of nature’s most perfect foods, and people have eaten it for thousands and thousands of years. But for the last century and some it’s received a terrible reputation. Go on, ask almost anyone you know if he or she likes butter. They’ll likely agree: it tastes great, but then you will hear he or she sheepishly admit, “it’s bad for you.” These individuals actually have guilt associated with ...more »
Firewalls vs analytic continuation
*Two new interesting anti-firewall papers and one pro-firewall paper* The black hole firewall argument by AMPS is probably invalid but it has already led to a significant new wave of research and discussions about the black hole information puzzle which is a good thing. There are some new papers since my most recent comments on the firewall controversy. But what happened today is kind of remarkable: just today, there are a whopping three papers on the black hole firewalls! The papers are the following ones: An Infalling Observer in AdS/CFT by Kyriakos Papadodimas, Suvrat Raju... more »
The United Nations has an unhealthy fixation on Israel
UN Watch reports that: 'According to a comprehensive UN Watch study of all U.N. General Assembly draft resolutions of its current 67th session, counting the one just approved today, the world body plans to adopt a total of *21 resolutions*singling out *Israel *for criticism in one form or another (*see draft texts below*) — and *4 resolutions* for the *rest of the world combined.* * * The four are: one on Syria, a regime that has murdered 40,000 of its own people, and one each on Iran, North Korea and Burma, whose government was largely praised in the U.N. text. Cell Nuclear Reprogramming moves Forward
It appears that we are discovering how to wipe out a cells programming completely in preparation for reprogramming it as a different cell. This will allow extreme precision in eventual organ replacement. It is clearly another leap forward in our ability to manage cell behavior. The ultimate goal of medical research is to perfect human outcomes. Much of what we are comes up short biologically even if we do not think so. Improving those outcomes is and will be welcome and we already see gathering momentum develop. Stem cells have been with us for around twenty years. T...more »
More on Sasquatch DNA Study
More information is coming out that was not clear in the press release itself. Over one hundred individual samples were processed and this allowed an excellent work up of the DNA. Earlier tests would certainly have been utterly misled by the human component in the mitochondrial DNA and would have in fact been naturally dismissed as contamination. The real achievement here is that we have now gotten past that little issue. We have two reasonable candidates at least for the father. One is the reported Eurasian wild man who may also be a hybrid and we certainly have evidence... more »
Greek Islands Were Inhabited 170,000 Years Ago
The problem that I have with sea borne speculations before 12,000 years or so ago is that they inevitably fail to make adjustment for the hugely lower sea level that fluxuated up to three hundred feet lower than today. This readily reduces the separation between South East Asia and the Australasian plate to a few short miles easily seen from each other. A dug out canoe, or better yet, a skin boat would be easily able to venture the transit. The rest is a matter of walking and similarly resolved river crossings. The Greek islands, including Crete are all on the continen...more »
MS Cured?
This will end the scourge of MS and do it soon. It also provided intervention for all other auto immune diseases and this will surely include arthritis also. It may even be tweaked into resolving serious allergies. In the end, your immune system is normalised. The cure is not a deliverable as yet but the fact that the carrier is already approved should allow quick adoption. *New nanoparticle halts multiple sclerosis, now being tested in Type 1 diabetes and asthma * *November 18, 2012 * * http://phys.org/news/2012-11-nanoparticle-halts-multiple-sclerosis-d... more »
THE POPULATION PROBLEM
Website for this image If you are an Orang Utan, whose land is being taken over by humans, you may think that there are just too many people in the world. The world's population has been growing rather rapidly in recent years and this has caused some problems. The population of the United States is expected to increase by 44% from 2008 to 2050.[52] * **Overpopulation - Wikipedia* The current population of the USA is 312.8 million people. The scene in the Alberta Legislature yesterday, with Premier Alison Redford at the centre of things. Actual Alberta politicians may not be exactly as illustrated. Major Jewish pedophile ring exposed
*Organized international pedophile rings* have been and continue to be exposed by journalists and bloggers like *aangirfan*. The disgusting and deplorable case of *Jimmy Savile* and his depraved behavior has caused a major stir in the United Kingdom in the past few months for example. In almost all cases, these pedophile rings extend to the highest levels of government, police, military and security organizations, the media, religious institutions, and other well-to-do members of society. In almost all cases that are uncovered, the victims are demonized or dismissed, not taken serio... more »
November 29, 1972
The president and Haldeman are still at Camp David; they have another Watergate conversation, mostly about how Haldeman now thinks that Congress is going to drop the whole thing because they don't have anything. One key bit shows that Nixon is still obsessed by the idea that John Dean should write an official report "establishing" everyone's innocence -- a report, remember, which Nixon had long since told the press about as if it was already written: -- Haldeman: Again, it it doesn't go anywhere, they're [Congress is] not [going to do anything] -- of course, the other thing is tha... more »
ALEC's Brand NEW "Shiny Baubles" Report
This is a tale of trying to fool the American people by putting shiny baubles in front of them and hoping they think it is pretty. ALEC is in DC right now and if you look at the agendas for the meeting one of the things they are doing is “sunshining’ their legislation. This means they are looking at it to determine which legislation they should continue to keep and which ones are outdated. The real purpose is probably to weed out the racist, misogynist, classist “model” legislation - so they can replace it with the exact same legislation but with more covert language. – they do th... more »

Everyone Agrees-- The Republican Committee Chairs Really Suck
Lucky for them Steve Israel gives all GOP committee chairs free passes to reelection-- and even luckier, Nancy Pelosi just reappointed Israel to head the DCCC next cycle, despite the abject failure he just presided over in "trying" to win back the House. Earlier today we were complaining because the GOP committee chairs are all white, all male, all corporate whores. Conservatives are fine with the lack of diversity but they're also uncomfortable with what a bunch of corrupt corporate whores Boehner managed to come up with for his A-Team. Republicans don't care that the Senate, run... more »
What If Israel Had Never Been Created?
It does seem that as of today, the Palestinians can finally consider themselves as a full fledged nation in the eyes of the world. In spite of the Jewish control over America, and their control over many other western nations as well including my own Canada, the criminals have not been able to stop the vote today that gives the Palestinians UN representation. This is definitely a victory by the Palestinians against their evil Jewish oppressors! The more I see of the criminal state of Israel, the more I see a criminally psycho nation bent on not only the destruction of the Palestini... more »

Relocation of custodial parent
Mantyka v Dueck, 2012 SKCA 109 is a good source on the current law regarding relocation of a custodial parent: 49 The law can be summarized as follows: 1. The parent applying for a change in the custody or access order must meet the threshold requirement of demonstrating a material change in the circumstances affecting the child. 2. If the threshold is met, the judge on the application must embark on a fresh inquiry into what is in the best interests of the child, having regard to all the relevant circumstances relating to the child's needs and the ability ... more »
‘Exporting deforestation’: China is the kingpin of illegal logging
[image: Logs smuggled across the border from Myanmar to China. Photo © EIA via mongabay.com] By Jeremy Hance 29 November 2012 (mongabay.com) – Runaway economic growth comes with costs: in the case of China's economic engine, one of them has been the world's forests. According to a new report by the Environmental Investigation Agency (EIA), China has become the number one importer of illegal wood products from around the world. Illegal logging—which threatens biodiversity, emits carbon, impoverishes local communities, and is often coupled with other crimes—has come under heavy pre... more »
