Juan Cole: Real Petraeus Failure Was Counterinsurgency in Iraq, Afghanistan
" this idea that the U.S. can occupy these countries successfully militarily and reshape them in our image is wrong." ( And since it - and COIN, a Vietnam discredited concept - is not only not happening but regularly failing, why would one also repeatedly suppose enabling rape of a country by destroying governments and installing designer puppets is 'accidental' ? Obviously the 'explanation' is also propaganda. And yes, it fits 'Post Saddam Iraq : Desert Crossing' to a 'T' ; planned destruction of governments and rewriting the map of countries in oil bearing lands in the middle East - not to forget Somalia or Nigeria, for instance. Resource Wars. Poor Congo ! Poor Canada next ? And Japan has paid a price in nuclear despoliation as well. Meanwhile notes on Fukushima, Gulf of Mexico oil/cor-exit 9500 with attending widespread bad health effects, depleted uranium, dumping of nuclear waste in the oceans ; all seem to exist in another dimension as far as 'news' is concerned. )

YouTube video description [Channel - Eidos84]:
"Kierkegaard and the Crisis in Religion", the first part of Walter
Kaufmann's famous 1960 lecture series on existentialism. Kaufmann begins by
explaining that existentialists share as many differences as other schools
of philosophy. First coined to refer to the theories of Jaspers and
Heidegger, existentialism became primarily associated with the work of
Kierkegaard, Sartre, and Nietzsche, all radical individualists who found
previous philosophical systems lacking. Kaufmann explains their writings as

Between violence on Gaza border and Syria tensions, Israel mulls next move
Lynsey at The Coming Crisis - 8 minutes ago
Israel is preparing for a series of offensive measures against Hamas and
the other Palestinian militant groups in the Gaza Strip, amid continued
fire from the coastal enclave into the Negev. Among other options, Israeli
officials are considering such moves as targeting prominent militants as
well as a systematic attack on Gaza's infrastructures and Hamas
institutions in the Strip. Meanwhile, tensions persist in the Golan Heights
as well, where Israeli tanks fired at Syria forces – apparently hitting two
soldiers – in response to a Syrian mortar shell landing in Israeli
territory.

Given that McKibben is on an anti-fossil-fuel rampage as I write this (see

Does immigration threaten local culture?
Peter Cresswell at Not PC - 8 hours ago
Amit Ghate addresses in *Forbes *magazine the oft-heard argument that
foreign immigrants will threaten or even overwhelm our culture—or American
culture—or European culture—that the combined forces of demographics mean
open, or even increased, immigration should be abandoned everywhere.
This argument has a fundamental flaw however:
Consider, to begin, the definition of culture, *viz*.: “the ideas, customs,
skills, arts, etc. of a people or group, that are transferred,
communicated, or passed along, as in or to succeeding generations.” Observe
that our culture rests on the *ideas* ... more »

London on Friday intended to consolidate the new rebel coalition.
British officials say the conference will discuss purely non-lethal aid to

ruling out arming the opposition in the coming months in an attempt to
break the bloody deadlock in Syria.

I am reposting Richard Charnin’s good analysis of the late-counted votes,
but with enlarged fonts and separated line to make it readable. Richard’s
point is simple but should be made explicitly. After Romney threw in the

of the actual voting distribution; this in turns gives us an excellent
estimate of the extent of the routine fraud, notwithstanding the sampling

Qatada Given Bail....What does Theresa May actually Do again?

Abu Qatada is to be freed after winning his latest appeal against
extradition, in a major blow to Home Secretary Theresa May.
The Special Immigration Appeals Commission (Siac) decided the radical
cleric could not have a fair trial in Jordan because evidence obtained via
torture could be used against him.

Car hits landing plane - too high, too low?

This peculiar clip caught my attention. Was the SUV too high, or the Cessna
too low? I believe the latter seems to be the case. It reminded me of the
Jesenwang (EDMJ) airstrip near Munich, Germany. Across the touchdown zone
runs a road, with traffic lights. That's a solution when a plane comes in
too 'flat'. Luckily this mishap ended relatively well for all participants.
The pilot said that he won't fly anymore. If I were him I would immediately
take off again to start making touch-and-go's to get rid of my low and slow
approach attitude.

In Canadian law all lands are subject to the Crown, and this has been true
since Britain acquired much of Eastern Canada from France by the *Treaty of
