It's A Dog's Life... In India
In India, it's a two-tier world for dogs-- just like for people
My pal Roland teaches elementary school in Compton, one of L.A.'s roughest
neighborhoods. He always tells me the kids don't have any clue that they're
poor. I didn't either when I was a kid. In fact, I never even thought about
it until I wasn't poor-- when I was in my thirties. I was making $100/week

It's no accident that our fondness for resorting to military violence is
inversely proportional to the risk that our target might inflict the same

RICE WATCH: The Post keeps Susan Rice under the bus!
*SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 17, 2012*
*Front-page report serves McCain:* Was Susan Rice vindicated by David
Petraeus’ closed-door testimony before the House and Senate Intelligence
Committees?
Not at the Washington Post, where confusion reigned—and John McCain’s
interests were served—in this gruesome front page news report by Karen
DeYoung.
DeYoung’s report is awful from its fatuous headline on down. (Hard copy
headline: "Libya attack was terrorism, Petraeus testifies on Hill.")
This report is dreck, starting in paragraph 2. But here are a few basic
points:

Israel Readies Forces For Gaza Border Assault
Israel is massing troops and military equipment close to the border with
Gaza after hundreds of airstrikes on the Palestinian enclave failed to stop
militants launching scores of rockets into the South and central areas of
the country.
The government has given the go-ahead for 75,000 reservists to be put on
stand by for call-up for any ground incursion into Gaza.
Israel knows that the eyes of the world are on it and that a ground war
brings not only military dangers, but international and diplomatic ones too.

White House says did not heavily edit talking points on Benghazi.......So they edited it a little?
The White House did not heavily alter talking points about the attacks on a
U.S. diplomatic mission in Libya, an official said on Saturday.
"If there were adjustments made to them within the intelligence community,
that's common, and that's something they would have done themselves," Ben
Rhodes, deputy national security adviser, told reporters. "The only edit
... made by the White House was the factual edit as to how to refer to the
facility."

Fighting continues in Gaza
Israeli aircraft bombed Hamas government buildings in Gaza on Saturday,
including the prime minister's office, after Israel's cabinet authorized
the mobilization of up to 75,000 reservists in preparation for a possible
ground invasion.
Palestinian militants in Gaza kept up cross-border salvoes, firing a rocket
at Israel's biggest city Tel Aviv for the third straight day. Police said
it was destroyed in mid-air by an Iron Dome anti-missile battery deployed
hours earlier, and no one was injured.

Explosion In Tel Aviv After Gaza Pounded
Sirens are sounding in Tel Aviv following an explosion, a day after a
rocket crashed into the sea off the Israeli city.
The sirens sent people running for cover as TV images showed the Iron Dome
anti-missile system firing on an incoming rocket, hitting it in mid-air
according to the Israeli military.
The Israeli ambulance service said there were no casualties.

Another Window into Harper's Sleazy Guest Worker Programme
Stephen Harper's "guest worker" programme is off to a predictable start and
it has his government already running for cover.
The idea was that energy companies could seek Canadian workers and, if they
came up short, they could bring in foreign workers to fill those jobs at
significantly lower wage rates.
A Chinese-owned coal mine in northern B.C. knew a pot of gold when it saw
one and went for it. They began by duly advertising their jobs in Canada
- at rates $10-17 lower than comparable wages at nearby mines. But they
also stipulated applicants needed to speak Mandarin Chinese.... more »

Michael Gove - child snatcher
One
effect of the New Labour years has been to hollow out notions of
progress and social good. Almost every MP in Parliament calls
themselves,
and everything they do 'progressive'. Michael Gove has given another
exampleof this. He wants children at risk of neglect to be taken into
care more
quickly. The way he describes this however is rescuing children from "a
life of soiled nappies, scummy baths, chaos and hunger, hopelessness and
despair".
He's taking a good idea, that children should not suffer, and turning it
inside out. If there's any key cause of hopelessness and despair in

Yes I am avoiding opining on the latest round of Israel-Palestinian

usual claim of Israel making a disproportionate response has been raised.
Apparently the might of the IDF armed with 'war planes', tanks and well
armed soldiers versus a few thousand terrorists is disproportionate.
Oddly the same argument was not used when terrorists fire Katyusha missiles

Eurogroup's Juncker says euro zone threats do not help Greece

the southern German state of Bavaria on Saturday for suggesting that a
