Maybe Time Does Heal All Wounds

The Mound of Sound at The Disaffected Lib - 7 seconds ago
There may be hope that the current younger generation can clean up a lot of messes that have bedeviled their elders and will otherwise be dropped in their laps. For example, it is hoped that young Republicans, who grew up never really knowing Ronald Reagan as a demi-god, will ditch the corporatism of the radical Right and the Tea Party lunacy and restore moderate conservatism to the GOP. And, in Gaza, there are signs that a youth movement is surfacing that is fed up with both sides, Israeli and Hamas, that have plagued their lives and their future. *Gaza Youth's Manifesto for Chan... more »

Sergeant John Russell accused of Iraq shooting "psychotic": doctor

Lynsey at The Coming Crisis - 1 hour ago
A U.S. soldier accused of killing five fellow servicemen at a military combat stress center in Baghdad in 2009 was psychotic and suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder during the shooting frenzy, a top U.S. forensic psychiatrist testified on Tuesday. Sergeant John Russell, 48, is accused of going on a shooting spree at Camp Liberty, near the Baghdad airport, in an assault the military said at the time could have been triggered by combat stress. http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/11/21/us-usa-iraq-trial-idUSBRE8AK04U20121121

Euro zone, IMF fail to strike Greek debt deal

Greece's international lenders failed for the second week running to agree how to get the country's debt down to a sustainable level and will have a third go at resolving their most intractable problem in six days' time. After nearly 12 hours of talks through the night during which myriad options were discussed, euro zone finance ministers, the International Monetary Fund and the European Central Bank failed to reach a consensus, without which emergency aid cannot be disbursed to Athens. http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/11/21/us-eurogroup-idUSBRE8AJ0NI20121121

Iran has finished installing all the critical equipment at a deep underground site where it is producing nuclear fuel that could quickly be converted to use in a nuclear weapon, international inspectors reported on Friday. Judicial Nomation Reform?

I think the strongest case for protection of minorities in the Senate is in confirmation of judges. It's a lifetime appointment; we're now being governed in part by decisions made thanks to elections in the 1980s and 1990s (and, for some appeals level judges, even earlier). One can certainly make the case that even a concurrent majority in both the presidency and the Senate should not be sufficient to automatically deserve to get their way.
