Bloomberg feeds Sandy victims the same high-calorie food he's banned in New York City
New
York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg has campaigned to ban food and drinks
loaded with salt, fat and sugar in the city but he has no problems
feeding
it to Sandy victims.
According to reports, the MREs - meals ready to eat - are loaded with
more
salt and fat than a McDonalds Big Mac and a 21-ounce Coke.
'I was told that folks shouldn’t eat these for more than two days
straight,' said one person handing out the meals.

Four bosses of 'unprofitable' Starbucks get £50m reward
Four bosses at Starbucks have walked away with £50million in pay despite
the coffee chain having paid no corporation tax in Britain over the past
three years, it has been reported.
Documents filed on the firm’s website show the quartet managed to receive
handsome fees over the past three years as well as owning shares worth a
combined £563.7million.
While Starbucks has been trading healthily in recent times, it has managed
to post a profit from its UK business only once in 15 years, according to

Not every Member of Congress can be Alan Grayson. That used to make me so

Qatada intends to sue UK for £10m.........When is it time to stop his bloody benefits and stick him on a plane?
Abu Qatada has told his family that he plans to sue the British government

The hate preacher has said he wants compensation for his ‘extended
mistreatment’ after a judge released him from jail last week and blocked
his deportation to Jordan to face terror charges.
Qatada was awarded a far smaller payout from the European Court of Human

One in 10 shops in UK high streets and shopping centres were empty in
October - the worst figure since the British Retail Consortium's nationwide

As retailers continue to battle against stagnating sales and rising costs,
the new figures showed last month's town centre vacancy rate at 11.3%.
A fifth of store units are currently empty in Northern Ireland, while the
rate for Wales is 15.1% and for the North & Yorkshire region the rate is
14.6%. Greater London had 7.6% of its units lying empty.

that they can just as suddenly become a victim of the demonic powers." -

Fix the filibuster
No matter how much the GOP has abused the filibuster, I still believe it
has value and shouldn't be abolished entirely. It's important the minority
has an avenue to voice their position on important matters of policy. So
how to eliminate the abuse? I'm not the only one who's suggested we simply
return to the original format. No more just *saying* they're going to

floor and explain their objections to the voters who employed them. And
when they run out of things to say, it comes to an up or down vote.

Swastika and fascist salutes: Rise of neo-Nazis in austerity-ravaged Greece

Fascist salutes by MPs and black-shirted vigilantes attacking immigrants

OutRun for the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis
If you were a car-mad boy growing up in the 80s, chances are you quite
fancied a Ferrari Testarossa. Alas, unless you were stinking rich, you
would never see one outside of car shows or American telly. That is,
unless, you regularly frequented an amusement arcade.
In 1986, Sega's *OutRun* made a massive splash in the coin-op racing scene.
The sit-down cabinet's faux-Ferrari modelling stood out. But the
"realistic" hydraulic features that shook you about with every twist and

Netanyahu Leading Israel to Avoidable, but Obvious Defeat
Why is the Israeli government purposefully falling on its sword?
*November 19, 2012 *(LD) - Israel exists in a perpetual "besieged"

an island amidst a violent sea. However, the constant belligerent posture

the face of modern warfare shifts, and the more they use their armor and

Hollande's popularity hits new low as economic strains persist
French President Francois Hollande's approval ratings continued to fall for
a sixth consecutive month, adding more pressure on the Socialist leader to
bring wealth and jobs for Europe's struggling key powerhouse, a survey
showed on Sunday.
An Ifop poll for the weekly Le Journal de Dimanche showed Hollande's
popularity fell by one point from a month earlier to 41 percent in November.
At his first major press meeting earlier this week, Hollande asked the
French people to judge him on his long-term bid to address the country's

Liberalism In Crisis
As the Liberal leadership races heat up -- in both Ottawa and Ontario --
those who consider themselves liberals should read what Chris Hedges wrotefollowing the American election
:
The ineffectiveness of the liberal class, as I saw in the former Yugoslavia
and as was true in Weimar Germany, perpetuates a dangerous political
paralysis. The longer the paralysis continues, the longer systems of power
are unable to address the suffering and grievances of the masses, the more
the formal mechanisms of power are reviled. The liberal establishment’s
inability to defy corporate power, to s... more »
Chris Hedges on the emptiness of Obama's Re-Election
Not so much emptiness, I suppose, as a different moral travesty from what a
Mitt Romney victory would have been:
Liberals, by voting for Barack Obama, betrayed the core values they use to
define themselves—the rule of law, the safeguarding of civil liberties, the
protection of unions, the preservation of social welfare programs,
environmental accords, financial regulation, a defiance of unjust war and
torture, and the abolition of drone wars. The liberal class clung
desperately during the long nightmare of this political campaign to one or
two issues, such as protecting a woman’s ri... more »

Ma the Bumbler Media Storm
The Economist's Ma the Bumbler article has generated a storm in Taiwan,
with international media coverage by AFP:
"How can a 'bumbler' get a doctorate from Harvard?" said Wang Chien-shien,
president of the Control Yuan, a branch of Taiwan's government in charge of
monitoring the others, according to the Taipei-based daily China Times
Sunday.
Ma, who received his doctorate in juridical sciences at Harvard in the
early 1980s, was the target of a "biased" report, Finance Minister Chang
Sheng-ford was quoted as saying by the Central News Agency.
Diplomatically isolated Taiwan is highly... more »
Blue America Welcomes A New Blogger-- The Purple State Progressive... Let's Start With Kentucky's Upcoming U.S. Senate Race
The elections are over, but 2014 elections will begin soon. It never ends,
does it? The battle to strengthen the Democratic majority in the Senate
will hinge in no small part on a victory in Kentucky to defeat Minority
Leader Mitch McConnell. It’s time to Ditch Mitch! Democratic challengers
are being discussed and we should hear more in January of 2013 as
challengers file early to get a head start on this critical 2014 race.
Unless Susan Collins (R-ME) decides three terms is enough, after promising
Maine voters when she campaigned for her first term in 1996 and again when

Questions About "Rockets From Gaza"
(Note: these are just questions I have. I never fully believe any major
news story anymore, at least immediately, when it is reported in real time
by the western/U.S. mainstream media. We have been DUPED too many times to
believe them, without major personal research from varying sources. Usually
we find out the REAL STORY much later. The more initial questions I have,
the more I think the "official story" may not be true. Now we get into
"OFFICIAL STORY", which is the story told by officials to protect
officials. OFFICIALS are Big Media and politicians. We KNOW "officials" are

in mississauga: a people's history of the war of 1812
The Harper Government has spent nearly $30 million promoting The War of
1812, all part of its overall effort to re-brand Canada as a "warrior
nation". History is always worth remembering, but who tells the story?
What's emphasized and what's forgotten?
Was Canadian identity forged on the battlefields of 1812? Did farmers and
other working people support the war, or resist it? Who profited from the
war?
Come hear a different perspective: "A People's History of the War of 1812,"
an antidote to Harper's glorification of war, featuring John Bell.
Progressive people living in Etobicoke... more »

Japan Finds Radioactivity in More Foods From California
The California Radiation Report
By Andrew Kishner
www.NuclearCrimes.org
August 23, 2012http://www.nuclearcrimes.org/California-Radiation.pdf
[excerpted] It is downright frightening to know that in one instance an
orange grown in 2011 in California was 'hotter' than oranges grown there in
the 1960s when hydrogen nuclear bombs were exploding in open-air at testing
sites closer to the U.S. than Fukushima! It is even scarier that pistachios
grown in the U.S. were the 'hottest' item in an 'isotopic test' selection
of supermarket it... more »
The U.S. has a flat tax (in effect)
The Congressional Budget Office has a new study of effective federal
marginal tax rates for low and moderate income workers (those below 450
percent of the poverty line). The study looks at the effects of income
taxes, payroll taxes, and SNAP (the program formerly known as Food
Stamps). The bottom line is that the average household now faces an
effective marginal tax rate of 30 percent. In 2014, after various
temporary tax provisions have expired and the newly passed health insurance
subsidies go into effect, the average effective marginal tax rate will rise
to 35 percent.

Hundreds of New Yorkers pictured queueing for food at FEMA relief post as fall-out from Hurricane Sandy goes on
The Federal Emergency Management Agency said on Friday that it will extend
a program to provide temporary housing to New Yorkers displaced by
Hurricane Sandy for an additional month (pictured: hundreds of residents
impacted by the storm receive donated supplies on Saturday in Coney
Island). The extension will allow applicants, whose homes were damaged by
the devastating storm, to stay in hotels or motels until appropriate
accommodations become available.
