White House says did not heavily edit talking points on Benghazi.......So they edited it a little?
The White House did not heavily alter talking points about the attacks on a
U.S. diplomatic mission in Libya, an official said on Saturday.
"If there were adjustments made to them within the intelligence community,
that's common, and that's something they would have done themselves," Ben
Rhodes, deputy national security adviser, told reporters. "The only edit

Israeli aircraft bombed Hamas government buildings in Gaza on Saturday,
including the prime minister's office, after Israel's cabinet authorized
the mobilization of up to 75,000 reservists in preparation for a possible

Palestinian militants in Gaza kept up cross-border salvoes, firing a rocket
at Israel's biggest city Tel Aviv for the third straight day. Police said

Explosion In Tel Aviv After Gaza Pounded
Sirens are sounding in Tel Aviv following an explosion, a day after a
rocket crashed into the sea off the Israeli city.
The sirens sent people running for cover as TV images showed the Iron Dome
anti-missile system firing on an incoming rocket, hitting it in mid-air
according to the Israeli military.
The Israeli ambulance service said there were no casualties.

Another Window into Harper's Sleazy Guest Worker Programme
Stephen Harper's "guest worker" programme is off to a predictable start and
it has his government already running for cover.
The idea was that energy companies could seek Canadian workers and, if they
came up short, they could bring in foreign workers to fill those jobs at
significantly lower wage rates.
A Chinese-owned coal mine in northern B.C. knew a pot of gold when it saw
one and went for it. They began by duly advertising their jobs in Canada
- at rates $10-17 lower than comparable wages at nearby mines. But they
also stipulated applicants needed to speak Mandarin Chinese.... more »

Syria rebels seize airport near Iraqi border: activists
Rebels captured an airport used by Syria's military near the Iraqi border
on Saturday, activists said, a move which they said would allow them to
maintain their hold on the recently seized border town of Albu Kamal.
President Bashar al-Assad's forces have retaliated by bombing the airport
with fighter jets, said Ziad al-Amir, a local activist.
Video published by rebel groups showed fighters patrolling a dusty desert
air base in Syria's Deir al-Zor province. Plumes of grey smoke rose from
some low concrete buildings as fighters examined several abandoned tanks.

Why Bankers Rule the World
Professor Margrit Kennedy writes that a stunning 35% to 40% of everything
we buy goes to interest. This interest goes to bankers, financiers, and
bondholders, who take a 35% to 40% cut of our gross domestic product.
That helps explain how wealth is systematically transferred from Main
Street to Wall Street. The rich get progressively richer at the expense of
the poor, not just because of “Wall Street greed” but because of the
inexorable mathematics of our private banking system.''

Iran delays planned start-up of Arak nuclear reactor
Iran has postponed until 2014 the planned start-up of a research reactor
which Western experts say could potentially offer the Islamic Republic a
second route to produce material for a nuclear bomb, a U.N. report showed.
Tehran has continued to install cooling and moderator circuit piping in the
heavy water plant near the town of Arak. Nuclear analysts say this type of
reactor could yield plutonium for nuclear arms if the spent fuel is
reprocessed, something Iran has said it has no intention of doing.

Sex gangs report 'will play down threat of Pakistani men targeting white girls'
An official inquiry into child sex gangs will fail to highlight the
targeting of white girls by Pakistani men.
Instead the year-long Government-backed investigation will say that child
sex abuse is a problem caused by men of all backgrounds in towns and cities
across the country.
The findings of the inquiry by Sue Berelowitz, the Deputy Children's
Commissioner for England, are likely to anger ministers and provoke
disbelief among those who have observed and investigated cases of abuse of
teenage girls in towns in Lancashire and Yorkshire.

France 'not sick man of Europe'

growth figures to reject concern that France could become the next focus of
the eurozone crisis, insisting it is acting to reform the flagging economy.
"France is not the sick man of Europe. France remains the world's fifth

recover its competitiveness," Pierre Moscovici, the finance minister told

Inflatable Plugs For Tunnel Flood Protection
This is actually a pretty creditable solution that looks to stand up.
Whether the plugs are able to withstand chemical degradation for decades is
quite another matter. On the other hand this is a solution out looking for
a problem. For instance, can it be used as a permanent plug in a pipeline
that needs to be turned on and off regularly. It could replace heavy flood
gate structures.
I particularly think of the huge concrete structure built to protect

All the bleeding heart liberals who view 9/11 truth-tellers as kooks should
stop being so smug and investigate the 9/11 events with a more critical
eye. Being a conformist follower who blindly accepts the U.S. government
line on the most significant event in our times is nothing to be proud
about.
If you want to build international political pressure on the terror... more »
Analysis: Gaza & the Politics of ‘Greater Israel’
IDF announcement designed to provoke. *November 17, 2012* (Nile Bowie) - The
Israeli bombardment of Gaza being perpetuated under ‘Operation Pillar of
Defense’ comes at an interesting time. Under the leadership of Benjamin
Netanyahu and Ehud Barak, the expansion of illegal Jewish settlements into
Palestinian lands has increased at unprecedented rates. Netanyahu’s
administration has approved the construction of 850 settler homes in the
occupied West Bank in June 2012, even after the Israeli parliament rejected
a bill to retroactively legalize some of the existing homes in the area. [2]... more »
Understanding China's Power Transition
China’s Transition: Towards a Red Revival or Socialist Democracy?
*November 17, 2012* (Nile Bowie) - As China’s 18th Communist Party
Congress draws to a close, the world’s most populous nation prepares to
install the country's fifth generation of leadership since the Chinese
Revolution of 1949. Despite overseeing a stringent police state with heavy
limitations on political expression, China’s leadership have taken the
nation from starvation to space travel in just a few decades, lifting
approximately 600 million people out of poverty. [1] Of course, the
Communist Party still ha... more »

“Unspeakable beauty and unimaginable bedlam can be found together in the
Trifid Nebula. Also known as M20, this photogenic nebula is visible with
good binoculars towards the constellation of Sagittarius.

The energetic processes of star formation create not only the colors but
the chaos. The red-glowing gas results from high-energy starlight striking
interstellar hydrogen gas. The dark dust filaments that lace M20 were
created in the atmospheres of cool giant stars and in the debris from
supernovae explosions. Which bright young stars light up the b... more »
Will The Israeli Terror State Assassinate Assad?
It is a very real possibility that the Netanyahoo government, in league
with nations like Qatar, England and America, will assassinate Assad. Read *
this*, and *this*.
Remember: *USrael is crazy*. It went crazy on 9/11. It wants World War III.
It desires escalations. Assassinating the leader of Syria will be a pivotal
event in this unfolding cosmic drama.
Bye-bye, Willard! Don't let the door slam behind you!
I grabbed this snippet off of washingtonpost.com's afternoon update
yesterday. It's one of those cases where I didn't feel any great need to
read the actual story but surely did enjoy the image conjured -- of
Republicans of all stripes waving into the distance and wishing their
decommissioned standard-bearer a heartfelt "good riddance" as he fades off
toward the horizon borne by the Five Mini-Willards, all of them intoning
the famous Romney Savage War-Wimp Chant, "Heck, no, we won't go!" -- to
war, that is. -- *Ken*

Hopi Tribe cites threatened species in new lawsuit to halt desecration of Peaks
*By Brenda Norrell*

http://www.bsnorrell.blogspot.com
The Hopi Tribe filed a new lawsuit to halt the use of reclaimed sewage
water for snowmaking on sacred San Francisco Peaks, citing the presence of
a threatened plant that only appears on the Peaks.
The Hopi Tribe filed for a mandatory injunction on Wednesday, Nov. 14,
2012. A Flagstaff radio station reported that the Arizona Snowbowl began
using the snow making equipment on Tuesday.
The threatened grounsel, or Packera franciscana, consists of only about 500
plants in the alpine forest of the San Francisco Peaks. T... more »

*“Charybdis”*

"To my mind, there is no more spiritually fulfilling experience than lying
on one's back under a crystal clear late-summer sky unpolluted by
artificial light and seeing the Milky Way arching across the dome of night
from Sagittarius in the south to Cassiopeia in the north. Those of you who
live in the southern hemisphere will have a different perspective,
including a loftier view of the brilliant luminosity near the galactic
center in Sagittarius, but you know what I mean. One has a sense of falling
into infinity, of becoming a born-again child of cosmi... more »
Louisiana Wants Out. Speaking of Morans.
The South will rise again - sort of. America's unhinged Right is
breathless with excitement at a few thousand nutjobs in the slave states petitioning
Washington for the right to secede from the Union.
*...according to Drew Zahn of Christianity Today, Louisiana’s secession
petition has more than 14,000 signatures, more than halfway to the
threshold needed after which the White House has pledged to respond. Texas,
is another state to join the secessionists with about 25,000 signatures.*

Elsewhere: Filibusters, More, and some Housekeeping
I haven't been running these items this week, and I wound up posting less
over here today than intended thanks to a balky computer this morning, but
I figured I should link to at least some of what I've been up to. A bit of
housekeeping down in the last paragraph, too.
The main thing has been the filibuster all week. In particular, I wroteagainst talking filibusters yesterday, and then
again today. It's both impractical as a solution, and irrational,
and...well, read the pieces if you need to be convinced.
Also one earlier in the week about filibusters and executive branch

Alan Watts, "All About The Folly..."
"Archimedes said, "Give me a fulcrum and I will move the Earth"; but there
isn't one. It is like betting on the future of the human race - I might
wish to lay a bet that the human race would destroy itself by the year
3000, but there is nowhere to place the bet. On the contrary, I am involved
in the world and must try to see that it does not blow itself to pieces. I
once had a terrible argument with Margaret Mead. She was holding forth one
evening on the absolute horror of the atomic bomb, and how everybody should
spring into action and abolish it, but she was getting so furious a... more »

"Last week I sat down for a telephone conversation with Joseph Chilton
Pearce, an author who has had a big influence not only on my work, but on
the way I have raised my children. He alerted me early on to the damage
that hospital birthing, day care, television, and modern schooling do to
the developing brain. A World War Two veteran, he could be considered one

The End of Economic Growth?
Listen above to a debate I participated in airing on the CBC tomorrow.
Comments welcomed. Here is how the Brent Bambury introduces the program:
In the Deep Sixed series, we examine aspects of life we take for granted
today that might not survive tomorrow. This week: economic growth. We
consider the future of growth with help from Matthew Lazin-Ryder, host of
CBC radio's The Invisible Hand, Jeff Rubin, former chief economist for CIBC
World Markets and author of *The End of Growth*, and Roger Pielke Jr,
Professor of Environmental Studies at the University of Colorado at
Boulder, and ... more »
