Arms Race Update - Russian Lasers in Space
The Americans spent about 16-years trying to perfect an aerial laser system
capable of taking down income ballistic missiles. Russia is now pursuing
what it calls space laser counter-measures.
The Russians are after a more modest target. Instead of a laser missile
shield, their initial effort is, "*making inoperable adversary space
vehicles’ sensors and optical electronic systems by directed laser beam
impulse."*
That seems to indicate that the Russians want to target American

Spain may offer residency to foreigners buying homes
Spain is considering offering rich investors from countries such as Russia
and China the right to settle in return for them buying up property in the
stagnant housing sector.
Spain has more than a million empty homes across the country and is setting
up a bad bank to clean up toxic assets from a housing bubble which burst in
2008.
Foreigners could be offered a residency permit if they buy a property worth
160,000 euros ($200,000) or more, the country's commerce secretary said on

Rioters attack ethnic Somalis in Kenyan capital
Kenyan police fired tear gas to disperse rioters who attacked ethnic
Somalis in the Nairobi district known as "Little Mogadishu" on Monday,
hurling rocks and smashing windows after a weekend bomb attack there killed
nine people.
The violence coincided with the start of voter registration for a general
election in March, adding to security concerns ahead of the first national
polls since 2007 when a dispute over the results fuelled ethnic slaughter
that killed more than 1,200 people and forced some 300,000 from their homes.

Fiscal cliff could push jobless rate over 10 percent: Fitch
The "fiscal cliff" could trigger a second recession in the country's
economy and push U.S. unemployment above 10 percent, ratings agency Fitch
said on Monday.
Fitch said it did not expect Congress to allow the tax and spending cuts,
which have been dubbed the "fiscal cliff", to fall into place given their
"far-reaching effects."
The fiscal cliff would "dramatically affect demand" for transportation

Blue Dogs Now New Dems? (Back to PARTY Time!), How Fake Fiscal Cliff Arose, and GOP Refuses To Take Off Blinders
If members of Congress (ex-Blue Dogs/New Dems and all Repubs) can depend on
the bad memories of most Americans, then they will be able to sell
balancing the tax-cuts-for-the-rich/multi-wars business-terrifying budget
deficit on the backs of the lower classes. And it's the "both sides do the

Iran reaches milestone at key nuclear plant
Iran is on the cusp of being able to triple output of nuclear material
that, if further treated, could be used in the core of a bomb, a new UN
atomic agency report showed.
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) quarterly update said that
fitting out of the Fordo plant was now "complete" -- despite extreme
sanctions pressure.
Fordo, which Iran only told the IAEA about in 2009, began in 2011 to enrich
uranium to purities of 20 percent, a process that lies at the heart of the
international community's concerns.

(By *American Zen*'s Mike Flannigan, on loan from Ari Goldstein.)
If one were to listen to long-discredited and worthless MSM organs such as

Cutting through IDF propaganda: Tanks caught on film lining up to fire haphazardly into Gaza
*Commentary:*
You'll remember that IDF spokespeople go on and on and on about "conducting
only precision strikes against 'terrorist targets'". However, there are
multiple reports, and now footage, of Israel simply firing haphazardly Gaza
using artillery pieces and tanks. Little difference exists between rockets
fired one way and artillery shells (that actually do far more damage)
firing in the opposite direction. One wonders where MSM objectivity has
gone in during this conflict.
The BBC - plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose
The BBC is institutionally anti-Israel, of that there is little doubt.
Israel is the only Jewish state in the world (albeit one that is over 25%

anti-Semitic? I am not sure about this but it is pretty clear that to the
BBC a good Jew is one who doesn't fight back when attacked. The Jews who
died in the holocaust were victims of terror and the BBC support them in
their deaths, Jews who fight back against Islamist terror aren't looked
upon so favourably by the BBC.

It only takes one crook/moron to ruin the reputation of an entire state.
Yes --I am referring to George W. Bush though he is but one crook among
many GOP crooks who 'stole' Texas back in the early 80s. The GOP plans
ahead.
I tire of the 'fashionable' but baseless attacks on an entire state when
for some 100 years, Texas had been liberal, often progressive. Now --there
are some 'conservatives' among Democrats even today. But Texas Democrats
were often liberal, progressive, activist and out-spoken. A Texas

"I'm not anti-Semitic, I am anti-Zionist"
"I'm not anti-Semitic, I am anti-Zionist" - That's the line I see all the
time on Twitter and hear in the media. Well you tolerant people, here's
what Dr Martin Luther King had to say on the matter:
"When people criticize Zionists, they mean Jews. You're talking
anti-Semitism!"
Here's what I wrote about this almost exactly a year ago and here's the

instance they are correct.

U.S. embassy in Greece warns of rise in ‘unprovoked’ violent attacks on foreigners as neo-Nazi group grows
The United States is warning its citizens travelling in Greece about the
recent wave of violent attacks on those who look like “foreign migrants”
amid the rise of a neo-Nazi party in the economically beleaguered country.
“The U.S. Embassy informs U.S. citizens that the ‘Threats To Safety and

Alabama town blames FEMA for slow aid after tornado...
Main Street in this old mill town looks about the same as it did the day
after tornadoes killed about 250 people across Alabama a year and a half
ago: Battered red bricks and broken glass litter the pavement, and the
buildings still standing are rickety and roofless.
The entire one-block downtown, still deemed unsafe, remains sealed off by a
chain-link fence. City officials blame the Federal Emergency Management
Agency, saying the money to demolish skeletons of the old buildings is
mired in miles of red tape.

Detroit Could Go Bankrupt Before End Of Year
''Detroit’s financial condition is rapidly deteriorating, and City Hall
could run out of cash in December, an official told a state oversight board
Monday.
City program management director William Andrews made the assessment at a
meeting of the Financial Advisory Board, a city-state panel overseeing
Detroit’s finances under its fiscal stability agreement with the state.
Detroit’s cash-flow crisis is “more challenging than it’s ever been and
more challenged than we reported last month,” Andrews said.''

IS THIS REAL REASON FOR CIA CHIEF’S RESIGNATION?
The speculation surrounding the sudden resignation of the CIA chief,
General David Petraeus,
is focusing in large part on his role in an alleged cover up of the attacks
against the U.S. mission in Benghazi this past September.
Perhaps being overlooked is the CIA’s possible role in purportedly using
the Benghazi mission to coordinate U.S. aid to opposition insurgent groups
acting in Syria amid information those same insurgents consist in
significant part of jihadists, including groups openly acting under the
al-Qaida umbrella.

In a near unanimous vote at the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday,
the vast majority of the world voted to put an end the U.S. economic
embargo against Cuba. Aside from the moral argument, the driving principles
behind the vote to end the embargo were those regarding the sovereign

Mount Ruapehu: Eruption fears rise at New Zealand's 'Mount Doom'
A New Zealand volcano that featured as Mount Doom in "The Lord of the

The Department of Conservation (DOC) warned hikers to avoid the summit of
Mount Ruapehu, saying that temperature readings by scientists indicated
there was an increased risk of eruption at New Zealand's largest active
volcano.
"The current situation can't continue, Ruapehu is so active that the
temperatures have been going up and down a lot," DOC volcanic risk manager

Weidmann, who sits on the ECB's Governing Council, also said that banks
should limit their exposure to government debt by backing up their

The UN Secretary General has called for an immediate ceasefire as Israel's
bombardment of Gaza continued overnight.
Ban Ki-moon is on his way to the region to personally appeal for an end to
the violence. He is expected to meet Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi
before visiting both Israel and Gaza.
Israel's airstrikes have continued overnight in response to rockets
launched from Gaza.
Pictures from Gaza City in the early hours of Monday showed buildings in
flames and thick, black plumes of smoke rising into the air.

Hamas demands end of Gaza siege as violence soars
Hamas wants an end to Israel's long blockade of Gaza and raids on the
territory in any cease-fire that might put a stop to five days of weaponry
plummeting from the sky, a top Palestinian official said Sunday.
Hamas, the Palestinian militant group that has ruled Gaza since 2007, said
an Israeli airstrike killed a family of 10 on Sunday. Israel, meanwhile,
said Hamas had fired nearly 150 rockets into Israel in a single day, and
that the strike was aimed at killing one of the leaders of the militant
group's rocket corps -- but Israel was unsure whether he was among the dead.

HIV Vaccine Success in Human Trial
Step by step, the HIV problem is been beaten into submission. Now we have
what appears to be a useful vaccine that can obviously slash infection
rates for those most at risk. All this produces a decreasing pool of
infectious sources which lowers the infection rate in a virtuous cycle.
Today it is not outright cured, but it is managed and that generally means
it is safely managed. If the risk of infection can be reduced to negligible
then the prospects of eventual extinction soon becomes plausible.

Baking Soda Gaining Medical Interest
The fundamental problem with the medical profession is that they are not
trained in chemistry to any sensible degree and they are not scientists.
This is a bad combination because applied medicine uses chemistry in a

The second problem is that modern research must be done as soon as
possible on a palette of core natural chemicals such as baking soda, a
variety of vinegars, complex sugars such as black strap molasses, other
common acids and bases and a full range of salts.
They all have safe usage levels and are all hand... more »

Great Barrier Reef Collapse Triggered by Farm Run Off
Plenty of folks have tried to link problems on the Great Barrier Reef to
global warming which ran pretty thin. Now we get an explanation that
certainly works very well and is much more convincing.
Nutrient run off is a huge problem of the last century and will continue
for some time yet. However adoption of the biochar protocol will in time
end the problem completely. So while it is a present problem it is also a
problem that will end.
At the same time I do expect to see farming generally adopt organic
methods and that will also eliminate excess nutrient run off.
