Gorgeous day yesterday, so I headed for the Taichung 46, a magnificent
little loop south and east of Dongshih, right off the 8. Accessible,
lovely, and a great workout, I highly recommend this road (map link for map

The weather soon cleared. Under blue skies, we ran into a couple of local
riders at a 7-11 on the way and they decided to come with us. We had a
great time riding the loop together.

A Nepali army officer has been in remanded in custody charged with two
counts of torture after being arrested in the UK.
Colonel Kumar Lama, 46, of St Leonards-on-Sea, East Sussex, is accused of
inflicting severe pain or suffering when he was acting in an official
capacity.
The offences are said to have taken place between April 15, 2005 and May 1,
2005, and April 15, 2005 and October 31, 2005 at the Gorusinghe Army
Barracks at Kapilvastu, Nepal.

Once again I'm left wondering "what tsunami, what quake? What is it this
time?" The only conclusion I can draw is that if, when, we do get hit by
the Big One I won't know about it until my house starts hopping around or
gets swept away on some mega-wave.

Sea Frozen In China As Temperatures Plummet

Temperatures in China have plunged to their lowest in almost three decades,
freezing coastal waters and trapping 1,000 ships in ice.
Since late November the country has withstood average temperatures of
-3.8C, 1.3C colder than average and the chilliest for 28 years.
The bitter cold has even frozen the sea in Laizhou Bay on the coast of
Shandong province in the east, stranding nearly 1,000 ships, the China
Daily newspaper reported.
