Are Crazy, Corrupt Religionists Preventing Action To Stop A Climate Change Chain Reaction That Mankind Will Be Powerless To Stop?

It frightens me that the media in the U.S. gives more space and more air to a discussion of whether storms like Hurricane Sandy are retribution from an angry god then looking at the scientific data about what the real problem actually is. Ken covered the science part of the equation pretty thoroughly Friday evening. People in other countries are concerned as well-- and they should be. Psychotic and corrupt Bronze Age religionists in the U.S. are powerful enough to prevent ameliorative action on Climate Change to prevent the onset of a new Ice Age. Politics: "Romney’s Napoleon Complex"

*"Romney’s Napoleon Complex"* by Jason Stanford "Mitt Romney has a Napoleon complex. Yes, I know he stands 6’2”, and no, I’m not talking about any insecurities he may harbor about his, um, tax returns that he keeps hidden. We’re talking about a different Napoleon entirely. We all know the basic story of George Orwell’s “Animal Farm.” The animals overthrow the drunken farmer, and an evil pig co-opts the revolution, oppressing his animal brethren through violence and groupthink. The evil pig adopts twisted slogans (“War is peace. Freedom is slavery. Ignorance is strength”) and re... more »

*"Math Is Hard"* by Paul Krugman "OK, this might be my last post until tomorrow night — life will intrude. And it’s more about polling; sorry, even I am finding it hard to focus on macroeconomics until this thing is over. Before I get into the substance, such as it is, let me make a point that the many trolls who showed up yesterday don’t seem to grasp: at this point, speculation about the state of the race has no significance whatsoever for the outcome. Somebody will win; my informed guess is that it will be Obama, but if the polls are systematically wrong, it will be Romney. Eve... more »

*"Democracy Is a Terrible System, Period"* by Douglas French "The election year of 2012 reminds us of the sheer waste and lunacy of democracy. Like soccer’s World Cup or the Summer or Winter Olympics, presidential elections in the United States come every four years. Is An Election This Close Too Tempting Not to Rig?

The Mound of Sound at The Disaffected Lib - 8 hours ago
Many American news services claim the vote on Wednesday is just too close to call between Obama and Romney. That elevates a problem that, it seems, no one wants to talk about, rigging the enormously vulnerable electronic voting systems so many States use. First of all, if someone tinkers with these machines it won't be to skew the election Obama's way. The main companies that make and service these machines are tied to Republican interests. For inexplicable reasons these machines have never been made tamper proof. The vulnerabilities that have plagued them back into the Bush I... more »

Polls in Greece show the far-right Golden Dawn party would come third were an election held tomorrow. The party’s policies include putting landmines on the Greek border to kill illegal immigrants, and its logo is a Hellenised swastika. Robert D. Mitt Romney-- A Car Guy?

DownWithTyranny at DownWithTyranny! - 15 hours ago
Mitt Romney blurted out a fatuous statement a few weeks ago about being "a car guy." Well... his father was. And owns lots of them (cars, not guys)-- and even an elevator for some-- but the closest he is to being a car guy is that he kind of resembles a used car salesman-- in the worst sense of the term. The most recent polling in Michigan shows him losing, 52-46%. That's not unexpected. But the polls have also shown Obama consistently ahead in Ohio-- and Romney has always known that that would be a death knell for his campaign. Tuesday they either steal Ohio or they have zero cha... more »

rtod: i ain't marching (to the u.s. polls) anymore

I spent the summer and fall of 2004 working on a Get Out The Vote campaign for the Democrats, not because they were my party of choice, but because I was angry at the prospect of another stolen election, and I wanted to make a difference in the popular vote numbers. After that election was stolen, too, I stopped voting in the US. Now, in 2012, voter suppression has reached new depths. If I still lived in the US, I don't know if I'd vote Green or not at all. Voting Green can be seen as a protest against the duopoly, and it shows support for a progressive agenda. Voting for any cand... more »

New Blogs

In my 18 month or so-long sabbatical from regular posting, many writers who once shone brightly in the blogging firmament have faded away or pulled into the orbits of big collective blogs. Precious few 'independents' now shine in their place. Thing is because I've been hiding in the warm, cuddly cave Stoke Labour made available to me, I don't know a great deal about "the scene" as it currently stands. When AVPS was a Y-list'er as opposed to its present Z-list status, a feature here did provide a new blog a small audience and Wikio/ebuzzing boost. Now? I suppose repeating the exerci... more »

Romneyism

Owen Gray at Northern Reflections - 16 hours ago
Mitt Romney has been the ultimate political chameleon. He has reversed every significant political position he held when he was Governor of Massachusetts. But, Robert Reich writes, there is a coherent philosophy behind his reversals. Reich calls that philosophy Romneyism: Despite its contradictions and ellipses, Romneyism has an internal coherence. It is different from conservatism, because it does not intend to conserve or protect any particular institutions or values. It is also distinct from Republicanism, in that it is not rooted in traditional small-town American values, na... more »

British Press Association Publishes Known-To-Be-False UK Government Flu Death Figures – In A Story To Promote Known-To-Be-Ineffective ‘Flu Vaccines To UK ElderlyChild Health Safety, 3 November 2912 An irresponsible scaremongering UK Press Association story published today in the British Media falsely claims a grossly inflated known-to-be-false invented figure for UK ‘flu deaths of 4700.
