*As previously written, Mitt Romney, Paul Ryan and the Republicans have
ample opportunities to steal the 2012 presidential election.*

*The groundwork for such a scenario is in place. A privatized, hackable,
corrupted electronic American election system controlled by Republicans.

Israelis on trial in Turkey over Gaza ship deaths
Turkey on Tuesday opened the trial in absentia of former Israeli military
commanders charged over the 2010 killings of nine Turks aboard a Gaza-bound
aid ship.
The proceedings against four of Israel's most senior retired commanders,
including the ex-head of the army, has been dismissed by Israel as a
politically motivated "show trial" and threatens to further strain already
fraught relations.

Canada to allow civil nuclear trade with India
Canadian firms will be able to export uranium and nuclear reactors to India
for the first time in almost four decades under an agreement between the
two nations, their prime ministers said, but more work is needed to
implement the deal.
Once implemented, the agreement will end a ban on nuclear cooperation
Canada imposed in 1976 after India secretly exploded its first nuclear bomb
in 1974, commonly called the "Smiling Buddha", using material from a
Canadian-built reactor in India.

Military experts from Africa, the United Nations and Europe have drawn up

A source with knowledge of the plan said it will involve a force of more

"Every military option will be used - ground and air," the source said,

Voting machine problems in PA

The person who put this up is happy to allow anyone to check the validity

And we’ve had bigger disagreements in the past – over the Vietnam War,

Sudan rebels say shell army stronghold in oil state capital
Sudanese rebels said they had shelled the military's headquarters in the
main city of the oil-producing South Kordofan state near the border with
South Sudan after coming under air and ground attack.
Sudan's army has been fighting SPLM-North rebels in the state since June
last year, shortly before South Sudan seceded from Sudan, but the South
Kordofan capital Kadugli has been largely isolated from the fighting until
the past month.

From Sudan to cyber, secret war with Iran grows
From a suspected Israeli airstrike in Sudan to cyber warfare in the Gulf
and a drone shot down over Israel, the largely hidden war between Iran and
its foes seems heating up and spreading.
Despite months of speculation, most experts and governments believe the
risk of a direct Israeli strike on Tehran's nuclear program stirring
regional conflict has eased, at least for now. But all sides, it seems, are
finding other ways to fight.
For the US and European powers , the main focus remains on oil export
sanctions that are inflicting ever more damage on Iran's economy.

Suicide bomber kills 31 at army base near Baghdad
A suicide bomber rammed his explosive-filled car into soldiers outside an
army base near Baghdad on Tuesday, killing 31 people and injuring tens more
in one of the worst attacks this year on the country's military.
Bombings and attacks have eased sharply since the height of Iraq's
sectarian strife in 2006-2007, but al Qaeda's local affiliate and other
Sunni Islamist insurgents often target local security forces and Shi'ite

Peace envoy fears Somalia fate for Syria
The international envoy for Syria fears the country could turn into a new

warlords and militia fill a void left by a collapsed state.

We are in the wind down to the vote count and a few comments are in order.
From the beginning, I thought that this election would be almost impossible
for Obama to win. My reasoning here was simple. His success in 2008 was
predicated on several non repeating events:
1 His cocoon of silence hid his leftest leanings, and his gross
inexperience as a leader.
2 The crash of 2008 crushed the republican claim of economic stewardship
regardless of shared fault.
3 McCain was as equally unskilled on the economic issues.

Breaching Whale Lands On Boat Injuring Three
Three men have been injured, one seriously, after a breaching whale leapt
out of the sea off South Africa and landed on their boat.
"The men claim they were motoring slowly off-shore when a whale breached in
front of their boat and came onto their boat, causing the boat and all
three men to go under water as the whale sunk back into the water," said
Ian Gray, NSRI Port Elizabeth station commander.

Barking Up the Wrong Tree
The last post at Wit's End featured photos of trees that fell across my
driveway, and around first daughter's farm, and many in between. Since
then we've been clearing the debris. Following are a few photos taken by
my daughter's husband with his cellphone, and then, numerous pictures
gleaned from news stories. The first was the Jersey shore on Monday a week
ago, as Sandy was approaching.
This is the backyard at Bramblefields, which is almost as far west as you
can go and still be in New Jersey. What is left is only a tiny fraction of
what was hauled away.
The machine was stuck, ... more »

Too Smart For Our Own Good
According to humans, the human brain is a miraculous organ. No other
species is even half as intelligent as we think we are. But we’re
seriously beating the planet, we’re not having fun, and everything is
getting worse. This is called progress. Circle what is wrong with this
picture.
Craig Dilworth circled humans. Modern society drove him nuts, because it
was so self-destructive. It simply made no sense, from the perspective of
the dominant worldview, which worshipped the most incredible organism in
the entire universe. How could a creature so brilliant act like this?

Max Keiser On Being Accused of Treason: "That dog don't hunt"
*Calling Max Keiser or Alex Jones a "traitor" is like calling the American
eagle an un-American bird.*
An excerpt from the article in The Independent called, *Max Keiser: 'Barack
Obama is clueless. Mitt Romney will bankrupt the country'*:
Of the many themes that Keiser returns to in his shows, one of the most
interesting and incendiary is the relationship between big business and
Congress. He has openly accused senior politicians of using investigations
into financial malpractice as a way of acquiring market information so as
to benefit themselves.

ISRAEL’S MASSIVE MILITARY FUEL PURCHASE OF 2010 REVISITED
In August 2010 I wrote about Israel’s massive military fuel purchase from
the US commenting that it was an extraordinary amount of fuel and that, by
virtue of the fact that it included huge quantities of JP-8 military jet
fuel, the entire order must have been military purposes. I also noted that
the order included large amounts of both diesel and gasoline. I surmised
then that this order may be for preparations for war against Iran – hence
the need for the jet fuel – and that, since Israel could not possibly
launch a ground offensive against Iran, the large amounts of diesel and
gas... more »
Thank goodness THAT election is over! (What? For real? Are you SURE?)
*"[A]t the age of thirty-seven, [Connaughton] joined Arnold & Porter and
launched a new career: as a lobbyist.
"Connaughton's timing in politics hadn't been great, but in lobbying it was
nearly perfect. In 1997, organizations were spending more than a billion
dolars a year exercising their First Amendment right to petition the
government for redress of grievances. Within a decade, the figure was
nearly three billion. . . ."*

"A Look to the Heavens"
“The bright clusters and nebulae of planet Earth's night sky are often
named for flowers or insects, and NGC 6302 is no exception. With an
estimated surface temperature of about 250,000 degrees C, the central star
of this particular planetary nebula is exceptionally hot though- shining
brightly in ultraviolet light but hidden from direct view by a dense torus
of dust.

This dramatically detailed close-up of the dying star's nebula was

Paulo Coelho, “What’s The Price?”
*“What’s The Price?”*
by Paulo Coelho
“Is the price of living a dream much higher than the price of living
without daring to dream?” asked the disciple. The master took him to a
clothes store. There, he asked him to try on a suit in exactly his size.
The disciple obeyed, and was very amazed at the quality of the clothes.
Then the master asked him to try on the same suit – but this time a size
much bigger than his own. The disciple did as he was asked. “This one is no
use. It’s too big.” “How much are these suits?” the master asked the shop
attendant. “They both cost the same pri... more »

Yawn. So I filled out my mail-in ballot over the weekend, tongue held
firmly in cheek. Were it not for the storm, I would have done the deed
earlier. There was one local law on the ballot I wasn't familiar with, and
I wanted to do some research on it first. It turns out I now have the
choice of either allowing my county legislature to draw redistricting maps,
or allowing an unelected board of people I don't know to draw redistricting
maps. So I chose the former, lesser of two evils. From the dregs of the
backwaters to the heights of the presidency, ain't it always the way?
