Entergy Palisades plant leak contained radiation
Federal regulators say a recent steam leak inside an auxiliary building at
Entergy Corp.'s Palisades nuclear power plant in southwestern Michigan
contained low levels of radiation.
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission says in a statement Tuesday that the leak

Van Buren County's Covert Township to remove it from service Sunday.
Repairs are planned. The NRC says it has no immediate safety concerns.
The NRC says the leak contained "very low levels of tritium" and will be

Did Romney Screw Over The Mormons Too?
I'm guessing everyone who reads *DWT* already voted. But, just in case... I
want to remind anyone who hasn't that Romney has still not come clean on
his taxes and that Bloomberg reported last week that he doesn't appear to
have paid *any* taxes between 1996 and 2009, using a loophole and the
Mormon Church to avoid paying his fair share-- or even any share at all.
The irony is that it looks like he's even managed to stiff the Mormons...
which explains why he has made it clear he would rather lose the
presidential race than do what every single other candidate-- from both

"Campaign Promises"
*"Campaign Promises"*
By Global Macro Monitor
"In the closing days of the 1932 campaign, Franklin Roosevelt promised a
crowd in Pittsburgh that he’d balance the federal budget while cutting
“government operations” by 25 percent. Wisely, he attempted neither, but
four years later as he prepared for another campaign trip to western
Pennsylvania, he asked his speechwriter Sam Rosenman what he should say if
his earlier vow came up. “Deny you were ever in Pittsburgh,” Rosenman

This US election “is about the clash of symbols”

NBC Bay Area used the Social Security Administration’s Death Master File to

Canada to allow civil nuclear trade with India
Canadian firms will be able to export uranium and nuclear reactors to India
for the first time in almost four decades under an agreement between the
two nations, their prime ministers said, but more work is needed to
implement the deal.
Once implemented, the agreement will end a ban on nuclear cooperation
Canada imposed in 1976 after India secretly exploded its first nuclear bomb
in 1974, commonly called the "Smiling Buddha", using material from a
Canadian-built reactor in India.

Military experts from Africa, the United Nations and Europe prepare for war in Mali
Military experts from Africa, the United Nations and Europe have drawn up
preliminary plans to recapture northern Mali from al Qaeda-linked rebels,
African officials said on Tuesday.
A source with knowledge of the plan said it will involve a force of more
than 4,000 personnel, mostly from West African countries.
"Every military option will be used - ground and air," the source said,
asking not to be named.

Obama-Romney: TRF poll
*Update:* About 1/3 of U.S. TRF readers voted for Obama and 3/5 of them
expected Obama to win. Only 1% of TRF readers voted for Obama but expected
Romney to win. Among the non-TRF readers, Romney slightly won the popular
vote but by the electoral votes, Obama safely defended his presidency.
This poll is very simple and unsurprising.
I want the U.S. readers – which make up 1/2 of the TRF visitors – to report
whom they voted for and whom they expect to win. Well, I only mean the U.S.
readers who are not crying of being tired of Bronko Báma and Mitt Romney yet

Bottom Line: Nuclear Power Plants Are Inherently Unsafe

Voting machine problems in PA
And so it begins:
The person who put this up is happy to allow anyone to check the validity
of his video. This happened on one machine in PA, but this is way to hide
machine glitches. A few hundred votes in every precinct would add up to a
lot. The only countermeasure is a massive turnout. Every vote matters. No
matter where you live.
Somewhat related. Ballot placement in a wealthy precinct in Ohio.

The question raised by those eight-hour lines!
*TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 6, 2012*
*What we saw at the polling place:* We’ve just returned from voting.
On the way out, we said this to the people in line: “They give you a choice
of Obama or Romney.”
We got a nice little laugh. As you know, though, it’s in the delivery!
Who has more fun than people, as mother always asked. This brings us to the
serious question of six-hour lines in Florida.
On last night’s Hardball, Chris played tape of those ridiculous lines, then
played tape of Christine Todd Whitman. We weren’t sure just how to react to
what the ex-governor said:

A few weeks ago I attended an amazing all day cooking class with Adriana
Rabionovich at Cucina Caldesi in Marylebone. The kitchen was amazing, the
people were friendly and the food was nothing less than delicious. The day
began at 10pm with an imidiate offer of coffee or tea and a prompt start.
Although my food intolerances can be a bit up and down at different times,
they had all the necessary ingredients to create a completely gluten free

Screw the vote
As it always the case, whatever GOPers are obsessing about, it's because
they're doing it themselves. Saw on the twitter that Fox Spews is making a
big deal about some black guy opening doors at the polls for old white
ladies. Implication being Black Panther intimidation. Which is, of course,
a lie.
In real life it's the Tea Party cons planning on intimidating black voters.
An investigation has been requested:
"We have seen their list and it strongly suggests that the Pennsylvania
Republican Party is coordinating with the Pittsburgh Tea Party to target

Koch Boys, Gates, Waltons, and Wall Street Lined Up in Support of Charter Expansion in Georgia and Washington
A clip from the NYTimes today:
The Georgia initiative, as well as a ballot measure in Washington State
that would permit charters there for the first time, is being closely
watched across the country. In both states, the measures have attracted
financial support from national business leaders and advocacy groups.
In Washington, donors supporting the charter ballot initiative include Bill

executive of Amazon; and Nicholas Hanauer, a prominent venture capitalist.

I Want Everybody to VOTE!!!!

I had voted before I left for work.
All along my 40 mile drive – the bridge brigades were out with their signs
both Republican and Democratic expressing their freedom of speech –
encouraging people to vote.
It didn’t matter which way they were encouraging people to vote – it was
about being able to vote.
Having the privilege and freedom TO VOTE – made me cry.

Why Does Ken Buesseler Refer to "Plants" as Opposed to "Plant"
In an article titled “Fishing For Answers off Fukushima” published in Science
Magazine in October 2012 Buesseler noted that “the nuclear power plants
continue to leak radioactive contamination into the ocean.”[i].
WHY plants?
Daiichi is one plant.
Is Daini or some other plant leaking as well?

Debunking Nuke Propaganda: How Much Radiation From Sleeping Next to Your Mate?
How much radiation does sleeping next to someone give you?
Stock at Nuke Professional has analyzed the nuke propaganda
slogan:"Sleeping next to someone gives you a big radioactive dose."
Nuke promoters claim that sleeping next to someone gives you an annual dose
of 7.3 milliSieverts.
Stock did some real calculations, and came up with .001167 MilliSieverts
which truly is negligible. Definitely worth reading:

Election Day
Southern Man's new voting venue is the high school cafeterea in the little
town north of The Land so this morning he grabbed his crib sheets on judges
and state questions and his new voter ID card and arrived at about 6:45 AM
to find himself second in line. By 7:00 there were about forty folks behind
him. Everyone (including the poll workers) knew each other but did
everything by the book; they opened right on time, required proper ID, and
Southern Man signed in and filled out his ballot (we mark them with a big
black felt-tip pen; no hanging chads in Southern State!) and fed it to... more »
Waiting is the hardest part
I've been a bit paralyzed these last few days. I'm not nervous in the same
way I was in 2008. Just feel like everything that can be said, has been
said a thousand times already. I'm turning it over to the universe. I've
implored the cosmos to give us what we need and I'm hoping it will be what
I want.
I'm too superstitious to make predictions. But this much I will predict, if
the GOP manages to steal the vote, or it comes down to the Roberts court
handing it to Willard, this time I won't be silent. I hope no one will.
In the meantime, think it's going to be a very long day. So her... more »

Why I Voted for Barack Obama Today
Amazing how the Simpsons is still pretty funny after 25 years…
In the interest of full disclosure, I thought I’d list the reasons why I
voted the way I did. I know conservative media regularly accuse
professors
of politicizing the classroom, but an honest discussion of why one
chooses
the way one did can also be useful exercise of citizenship. (See
Dreznerfor an example of what I was thinking of.) So with that goal, not
demagoguery, in mind, here we go:

Slowest professor from Princeton speaks out!

Iowa Property Owner Joins Long Line of Owners with Damaged Trees
Rachel Rindfleisch at Contaminated Nation - Water Contamination, Land Pollution & Hazardous Waste locations - 15 hours ago
By: Duane Craig
The Iowa plaintiff in a lawsuit against E.I.DuPont joins potentially
thousands across the country who are making claims against the company for
damages resulting from using one of the company’s products to control lawn
weeds, according to this article.
In this case, the property owner hired a lawn care firm to take care of his
lawn. That firm used DuPont’s Imprelis herbicide to control lawn weeds, but
besides killing weeds, the chemical also began killing the plaintiff’s
trees. Within two weeks, trees were browning and experiencing leaf curling
