The FSA Can't Win A Battle Fair And Square
Two examples:
1) In Idlib, the Syrian army was beating the FSA so the FSA cried and
called for a ceasefire. They used the ceasefire to regroup and bring new
fighters from other parts of Syria. They then violated the ceasefire. This
had the effect of stopping the momentum of the Syrian army. I don't know
why they agreed to a ceasefire in the first place when they were clearly
winning.
2) After the battle between the FSA and the YPG, a local Kurdish group, at
least 18 FSA members were killed. Some of them were also injured. A woman

Today, for the first time in memory, the Republican Party failed to deliver

Syrian Tanks 'Cross Israeli Border'
Israel says three Syrian tanks have entered the demilitarised zone in the
Golan Heights for the first time in 40 years, raising concerns that the
conflict in Syria could spillover its border.
The development comes as dramatic video emerged from Syria which purports
to show rebels filming as a fighter jet targeted them.
In a relatively low-key response, Israel complained to UN peacekeepers
present in the area, suggesting it did not see an immediate threat.

How Can Obama Be Bad For Business If Corporate Profits Are at All-Time High?
*By MARC McDONALD*
It's a sign of our nation's bizarre, surreal political discourse these days
that most of the most persistent GOP attacks on Obama are not only
misleading, they have zero connection to the real world.
One of the GOP's most common attacks on Obama is that he's a "socialist."
We also often hear that he's somehow bad for business or hostile to
capitalism and free markets.
Here in the Real World, such charges are absurd. The fact is, any candidate
for president who was even in the slightest bit "socialist" would never in
a million years get anywhere near the White Hou... more »

What's Senate Republicans Don't Want You to Find Out
There is a lot of buzz now about the fact, discovered over a month after it
happened, that the Congressional Research Service (CRS) had withdrawn one
of its research reports due to pressure from Republican Senators. Probably
the most commonly used adjectives used to describe the CRS are "respected"
and "non-partisan," so what is going on here? The simple answer is that the
Republicans didn't like the study's conclusions and complained vociferously
to CRS. Why did the CRS give in? No one knows yet, although the *New York

Slaying the Two-Headed Dragon of Education Policy
Recently, I posted a chart highlighting that current “No Excuses” Reform
(NER) claims and policies are no different than traditional problems and
policies in public education.
The great ironies of NER include that NER perpetuates the inequities of
society and the current education system *and* that NER does not seek a
reformed and revolutionary public education system but a dismantling of
public schools for private interests (See Ravitch, Flanagan, and Cody).
The problem in education reform parallels the problem in our two-party
system: While the competing ideologies and policies ha... more »

Mandatory minimum sentences as an inflationary floor
R v Guha 2012 BCCA 423 deals with the difficult question of how mandatory
minimum sentences fit with sentences ranges. The Court does not decide but
seems inclined to the view that the mandatory minimum shifts the
appropriate sentencing range upwards:
[32] The impact of mandatory minimums on sentencing has received little
attention in the case law. However, in R. v. Morrisey, 2000 SCC 39
(CanLII), 2000 SCC 39, which involved a challenge to the 4-year mandatory
minimum for the offence of criminal negligence causing death with a

A year on from the Arab Spring, supposed to usher in a new era for Yemen,
for most it is a perilous time. With no clear direction, it is plagued by

The unrest brought about by the Arab Spring triggered numerous political

Albright raps 'disgusting Serbs' in Prague book signing
Washington Examiner
Clinton-era Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, confronted by
pro-Serbian protesters who called her a war criminal during a recent book
signing in her native Prague, pushed them aside as "disgusting Serbs" in a
confrontation going viral on the internet.
Displaying her trademark feistiness, Albright is seen in the video as
sternly shouting "get out, get out," to the protesters who arrived with a
film crew. As they closed in on her, she stood up and said, "That's it! Get
out," and soon walked away with an aide after saying, "they are disgusting
Serbs."

ordinary people were freezing and hungry. More sympathy seemed forthcoming

Nutella Loses Class Action Suit
Yes, it is time to tackle the food industry over some of their most
egregious claims. Nutella is pretty excessive though. You presume naturally
that sugar and the grease of choice would be minimized. Yet this is merely
a sweeter replacement for pork fat on toast. It is certainly not hazelnut
butter which is what it attempting to imitate. It is a sordid faux food
created back when everything went.
What we have is an excellent advertisement for the proposition coming out
of Ontario that proposes to make manufacturers put nasty health warnings on
their labels. This product... more »
Managing Unwanted Memories
This pretty well explains why planned substitution therapy is so
promising. One establishes what the triggers are and then associate
alternative thoughts to weaken the original memory which in PTSD cases are
debilitating.
I will leave how up to the imagination of the therapist.
The point here is that there is a clear physical pathway involved that
confirms what has already been observed in therapy and supports ongoing
effort that plausibly needs to be continuing. In fact a progressive
protocol is strongly indicated as a brain management tool.

Italian Earthquake Justice?
It is of course outrageous that anyone, let alone a judge could or should
expect human prescience.
It is completely valid to expect a horrific earthquake in an earthquake
zone. The fact that they are almost random and rare has allowed people to
live there.
The judges are now expecting a result that taken to its logical conclusion
would reasonably entail the evacuation of Italy. In California, less than
one hundred died in a quake equivalent to Haiti.

Tri - Alpha Nuclear Fusion
Tri-alpha is another emergent player in the race to master fusion and is
also focused on the bismuth reaction. This reaction allows for vastly lower
temperatures for energy generation although that is relative. I would
prefer to see the same resources brought to bear on Focus fusion in
particular although progress will always be incremental and money can
sometimes get in the way. Lack of it often allows imagination to establish
brilliant work arounds.
Yet there is some intriguing new science happening here that could change
things so we need to keep our eyes on it.

Mohawk John Kane 'I Don't Vote! The Two Row is Only One Reason'
*Mohawk John Kane*I Don't Vote! The Two Row Is Only One Reason
Reposted from Let's Talk Native Pride
http://www.letstalknativepride.blogspot.com/2012/11/i-dont-vote-two-row-is-only-one-reason.html
The basic question for a Native person is: how does anyone who claims to be
Sovereign; a person distinct from the American culture, a Native person
tied to the land and ways of their ancestors, immune from US laws and
jurisdiction, a survivor of the greatest genocide the world has ever know;
vote in the elections of the government responsible for that genocide. The
Native person that vot... more »
News from the Jews
In this week’s edition of News from the Jews, I have a few items I’d like
to highlight from the Jewish press. The first article comes from *The
Jerusalem Post*, and is laughably titled, “PM: Strike on Iran would be good
for Arab world.” Could it be any clearer how completely insane,
bloodthirsty, and out of control Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu
is?
Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu sought on Tuesday to convince Arab states
that *an Israeli military strike on Iran would benefit them*, removing a
potential threat and easing tensions across the Middle East.

The CIA's Sons - Opposition demo in Syria: 'We are Students of Osama.'
YouTube video description [Channel - SyrianRebelWatch]:
(27/10/12) Al Qaeda in Syria (Al Nusra Front) hold a demonstration to
celebrate Eid. The crowd are seen to carry Nusra flags and are heard to
chant that they are students of Osama [Bin Laden] amid anti-Assad slogans.
Contrary to most reports in the Western media, the most powerful oppositon
groups are all allied to Al Qaeda, both tactically and operationally and at
the very least ideologically. Their power and use of propaganda to win over
increasing numbers of opposition supporters, notably children, has been
largely ignored ... more »

Fukushima Fish May Be Inedible For a Decade
Tests have found that radioactivity levels in fish near the Fukushima
nuclear site have been slow to fall. Photo courtesy: Jeremy Sutton-Hibbert
Fish from the waters around the Fukushima nuclear plant in Japan could be
too radioactive to eat for a decade to come, as samples show that
radioactivity levels remain elevated and show little sign of coming down, a
marine scientist has warned.
According to a paper published in the journal Science on Thursday, large
and bottom-dwelling species carry most risk, which means cod, flounder,
halibut, pollock, skate and sole from the waters in q... more »
Five Election-Explaining Clichés I really don’t want to hear this Tuesday
On Interstate 71, south of Columbus; Ohio’s most famous sign So it’s
election time, which means CNN, etc. will be filled with pundits with only
the vaguest credentials – never any PhDs – telling you why the outcome
inevitably had to be such-and-such. (Retrodiction is so insufferably smug.)
And they’ll explain it as if

Miguel de Unamuno on the Immortality of the Soul And the Struggle for Fame
*Miguel de Unamuno [29 September 1864 - 31 December 1936]*
"When doubts invade us and cloud our faith in the immortality of the soul,
a vigorous and painful impulse is given to the anxiety to perpetuate our
name and fame, to grasp at least a shadow of immortality. And hence this
tremendous struggle to singularize ourselves, to survive in some way in the
memory of others and of posterity. It is this struggle, a thousand times
more terrible than the struggle for life, that gives its tone, colour, and
character to our society, in which the medieval faith in the immortal soul
