Standard of review on sentence appeals
R. v. Zachary Evans-Renaud 2012 PECA 21 gives a helpful summary of the

Standard of Review
[20] The standard of review to be applied by appellate courts in
reviewing a sentence has been stated a number of times by the Supreme Court

Sandy and Climate Change: Part II
In my last post, I noted that Hurricane Sandy has finally triggered a
vigorous discussion about climate change, prompting much speculation about
whether climate change had some role in causing the storm. I expressed some
doubt whether this is the right question to ask, as it frequently has
triggered feuds among climate analysts about the

Dan Lipinksi (D-IL)-- Worse Than A Blue Dog... Won't Endorse Obama
Not a leftover Halloween mask-- Rep. Dan Lipinski
About 5 years ago, Blue America started taking more than a passing interest

The Spanish woman was ejected from the flight by a Guardia Civil officer

Syria rebels kill 28 soldiers
Rebels killed 28 soldiers as fighting raged on Syria's northwestern
battlefields Thursday, a watchdog said, in some cases apparently beating
and then executing troops taken prisoner.
The fresh clashes came as the main opposition Syrian National Council hit
back at US warnings of rising Islamic extremism among Syria's rebels,
saying the West and its partners were to blame for increasing
radicalisation.

Water is everywhere in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy – in basements, on
the streets and in transit systems – but the one place that flood water is
most dangerous is in your body.
ABC News chief health and medical editor Dr. Richard Besser collected
floodwater and drinking water in some of the areas hit hardest by Sandy and
had them tested at The Ambient Group lab. The floodwater collected in Lower
Manhattan tested positive for gasoline and two types of bacteria found in
sewage: E. coli and coliform.

US phone addicts suffer withdrawal
Swarms of people wandered around downtown Manhattan on Wednesday, their
faces lit by the glow of mobile phones as they walked up city blocks in
search of mobile phone service.
As a city bus crossed into a service zone, the beeps and buzz of mobile
phones registering messages interrupted the quiet.

first they came for pride: city of toronto vs free speech
Last week, I blogged about the ongoing pattern of harassment and
discrimination against people who express solidarity with the Palestinian
people. This isn't in the same universe as the oppression endured by
Palestine every day; nonetheless, it's a violation of our own civil
liberties and rights, and raises a huge obstacle to disseminating accurate
information about the situation in Gaza and elsewhere.

Paul Craig Roberts: ''The Virtual Economic Recovery''
Since mid-2009 the US has been enjoying a virtual recovery courtesy of a

EU wary of new Soviet empire in disguise
Brussels officials besieged by the Eurosceptic press may be relieved to

Is The Federal Reserve Destroying Us Or Saving Us?
Many economists believe that the actions taken by the Federal Reserve saved
the United States from crashing into another Great Depression.
Economic historians will be debating whether or not the Fed saved the
American economy from a depression for decades, but now that the Fed has
taken an active role in attempting to stimulate the economy and create jobs
through quantitative easing (money printing), many analysts are starting to
question whether the Fed will wind up destroying us while attempting to
“save” us.

News Round-up For Our Disgraced Country
The majority on the Supreme Court of Canada ruled that procedural errors
shouldn't deprive a vote of its integrity. You have to prove fraud in order
for votes (with no accompanying verification) to be discounted.
What the SCOC did not do was to say that the government cannot create laws
that restrict the right to vote. The point being that if a voter ID card is
made mandatory and that voting without one is a felony (as is allowing
someone to vote without one), then it's not a "clerical error" that can be
discounted, but a true legal barrier.

BIG CYRIL, JIMMY SAVILE, IAN BRADY, LIBERAL BEHAVIOUR

Several decades ago, Sir Cyril Smith, the former Liberal Party member of

The PR Pivot: White House Now Says Al-Qaeda Is A Liability In Syria

NATO and the Persian Gulf States of Saudi Arabia and Qatar to violently
overthrow Syria. The narrative that recent US efforts aim at heading off

Bay Area Meteor Debris Found in Yard
After analyzing the 2-inch gray colored rock that was collected from Lisa

give it a second thought. As soon as she read a narrative story about
debris from the meteor falling from sky in a region elongated east of San

Hungarian-Jewish-American physicist Edward Teller had a great day exactly

an idea originally due to the great physics guru Enrico Fermi (most likely,

While fission only releases about \(0.001E=0.001mc^2\) from some mass,

Sheer Madness: Washington Post Says That It Is OK To Give Up Liberty For Security (!)
America is now a police state. I have long thought that the good people
living in the once free United States of America would have had enough by
now by the criminal actions of their own crooked and deceitful government,
but I guess I have been mistaken...
There was a famous quote made by Benjamin Franklin at the time of the
American Revolutionary War, and the words still ring absolutely true
today... The quote goes something like this: "If a nation ever surrenders
its Liberty for Security, then it's citizens will wake up one day with no
Liberty and no Security!". Ben Franklin wa... more »

The FSA terrorists are not revolutionaries, they are just morons with guns
who hate everybody that's not like them. They are creating anarchy, not
revolutionary change. They don't have a political vision, a social program,
an economic plan, a leader, nothing. They are intolerant barbarians who
burn the holy bible, *kill Christian priests*, and destroy churches. They
are disposable to Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and NATO.
German poet Heinrich Heine said, "Where they burn books, they will
ultimately also burn people." After burning bibles and other religious

John Friend Interviews Deanna Spingola On His First Show On Truth Militia Radio!
A close friend of mine, John Friend, who writes the great blog: John

in the fight against the criminal element that is out for our enslavement.
He is now hosting his own show, every Monday, on Truth Militia Radio, at

Just this last Monday, October 29th, 2012, he had a fine lady who I have

various very important subjects. I have the link here for everyone to

Obama $10.00 a gallon Gasoline Coupon - Campaign where They "Feel Your Pain" Most
As the old saying goes, there is a reason why elections are not held after
April 15th. Election outcomes would be quite different if they were held
in April as the fermenting anger would still be fresh within voters. For
low to middle income Americans, the consequences of leftist government
policies have created high gas prices that are actually -more painful- than
the income tax itself as it is paid weekly and exceeds what many in lower
income brackets pay in federal taxes (if they pay at all).
You can help to get voters to think about the *ramifications* of Barack

Grow up, Mr Hickey
Mark Hubbard calls out Bernard Hickey for yet another childish swipe at
efforts by governments, however lack-lustre, to either repay or avoid
further debt--to both of which Big-Govt Bernie is apparently opposed.
In Bernard’s item number one this morning], looking at the continuing train
wreck of Greece, he says:
* “…the debt debacle is getting even worse in Greece, forcing the
Germans to think about
stumping up yet more money.
“**The austerity medicine is clearly not working.”*

The Obama administration has spent the past several months in secret

still backing President Bashar al-Assad.

Stimulus failure
Back in 2009, the Australian government panicked. It saw the global
financial crisis and immediately pulled the Keynesian lever: they cut a
cheque for $900 to every Australian for a shopping subsidy—which was paid
for by every taxpayer.
How much extra spending did each $900 “stimulate”?
About $20.
Just twenty dollars for every nine-hundred dollars poured down this
particular drain.
In fact, even the original unpublished paper on which the “stimulus” was
based, now its finally been published, only talks about a fifty-dollar
spending increase. Fifty dollars over seven weeks.

It's The Final Countdown
Less than one week to go until the end of the Endless Campaign. This long
march began the day after Barack Obama was elected in 2008. It was well
underway in January 2009, when just days before inauguration Rush Limbaugh
said of the incoming president, "I hope he fails." On October 23, 2010,
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell took it up a notch, telling everyone
what we already knew, when he said, "*The single most important thing we
want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president." *

Psychology: "How the Brain Stops Time"
"How the Brain Stops Time"
by Jeff Wise
"One of the strangest side-effects of intense fear is time dilation, the
apparent slowing-down of time. It's a common trope in movies and TV shows,
like the memorable scene from "The Matrix" in which time slows down so
dramatically that bullets fired at the hero seem to move at a walking pace.
In real life, our perceptions aren't keyed up quite that dramatically, but
survivors of life-and-death situations often report that things seem to
take longer to happen, objects fall more slowly, and they're capable of
complex thoughts in what would ... more »

Your second time…
You might have seen the patronising approach the Obama campaign has taken
towards women?
The likes of Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton argued that women
were just as capable of rational deliberation as men [writes Rich Lowry].
The conceit of the Obama campaign is that, to the contrary, they are quite
susceptible to a few powerful dog whistles and unable to see beyond their
gender. To paraphrase a notorious post on the Obama campaign’s Tumblr page,
“Ladies vote like their lady parts depend on it.”
The twenty-something filmmaker and actress Lena Dunham captured the
