NATO oil tanker goes up in flames after Afghan Taliban ambush... but instead of running away, locals grab as many petrol cans as they can carry and siphon off fuel

Lynsey at The Coming Crisis - 4 minutes ago
The tanker was ambushed on Saturday as it passed through Doshi district in Baghlan province, in the north of the country. A group of gunmen opened fire on the vehicle until it burst into flame and had to be abandoned. Although the attackers have not been formally identified, locals apparently said that they were Taliban militants who had targeted the tanker in an effort to disrupt NATO's ongoing efforts to reconstruct the country's infrastructure while cracking down on terrorist attacks. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2248591/Afghans-line-siphon-fuel-oil-tanker-blown-Taliba... more »

------------------------------ *Our Collapsing Economy and Currency * ------------------------------ December 1, 2012 | Original Here Is the “fiscal cliff” real or just another hoax? The answer is that the fiscal cliff is real, but it is a result, not a cause. The hoax is the way the fiscal cliff is being used. The fiscal cliff is the result of the inability to close the federal budget deficit. The budget deficit cannot be closed because large numbers of US middle class jobs and the GDP and tax base associated with them have been moved offshore, thus reducing federal revenues. When they're rather young, children learn about hot and cold things. They learn to say "heiss" when their tongue gets burned a little bit and "brrr" when they're freezing. Much like our ancestors, the Monkey Americans, little kids learn that they may heat objects up by fire; and they may cool them down in the refrigerator if they have one. In ancient Greece about 2,000 years ago, Philo of Byzantium and Hero of Alexandria constructed the first thermometers when they observed that materials generally expand when the temperature is higher. Syrian jets strike rebels around Damascus

Syrian warplanes bombed insurgents east of Damascus on Saturday and government forces pounded a town to the southwest, activists said, in a month-long and so far fruitless campaign to dislodge rebels around the capital. Jets bombarded the Beit Sahm district on the road leading to the international airport and the army fired rockets at several rebel strongholds around Damascus, President Bashar al-Assad's bastion through 21 months of an increasingly bloody uprising. http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/12/15/us-syria-crisis-idUSBRE8AJ1FK20121215

Phil at A Very Public Sociologist - 21 minutes ago
Tragic events like yesterday's school shooting bring out the best in people. Teachers and pupils have been praised for timely actions that saved many dozens of lives from Adam Lanza's rampage. But, unfortunately, tragedy can also bring out a sense of brazen self-righteousness by those who believe they have a stake in the fall out. I wrote yesterday how the smoke that normally clouds America's gun control debates gets thicker in the immediate aftermath of yet another entirely preventable mass shooting. And sadly, so it has proven. Scant hours after news of the shooting broke, Bryan... more »

EU deal 'is first step towards joining Euro Army': Leaders agreed plans for greater defence corporation at Brussels summit

Lynsey at The Coming Crisis - 8 hours ago
David Cameron was accused yesterday of signing Britain up to a blueprint for a Euro Army. European leaders agreed plans for greater defence co-operation at a summit in Brussels that will force Britain to consult fellow EU nations over defence planning, with defence chiefs having to co-ordinate capabilities and procurement. The plans appear to duplicate the role of the Nato alliance, which Tories have traditionally credited with sole responsibility for European defence. The communique issued at the end of the summit also featured calls for a co-ordinated policy to boost development ... more »

Talk about blatantly obvious, shameless propaganda... They clearly think we are a bunch of brain-dead, totally clueless, apathetic children, willing to believe anything presented to us on a television or movie screen, no matter how absurd or ridiculous. Sadly, many of us in America today, and around the world, are exactly that: completely gullible sheep unable or unwilling to think critically about matters of any significance. If you become conversant with Geology, you soon learn to treat all age suggestions as tentative at best. You have to be always ready for outright reconsideration. This is particularly true when it comes to understanding physically reshaped rock. There is a reason that you can artificially age an artifact by treating it to accelerated weathering. Let me give you a great example. The Sphinx experienced intense weathering. It has been suggested that this means we have to go back several thousands of years. Let me propose something else. It was built inside a thousand years o... more »

*From Common Dreams* * * *Michigan’s New 'Corporate Servitude Law' Takes Away Worker Rights* *by George Lakoff * *Michigan** has just passed a corporate servitude law. It is designed to take away many of the worker rights that unions have conferred throughout their history: The right to a living wage. The right to equal pay for women. The right to overtime pay.* *From this conservative perspective, businessmen should have the liberty to run their busi... more »

Thank God the subject of gun craziness was so thoroughly aired in the recent presidential and congressional elections

*"I think that day will come, but today's not that day, especially as we are awaiting more information about the situation."* *-- White House press secretary Jay Carney, about "that day" -- when a gun-control discussion may come* *"If now is not the time to have a serious discussion about gun control and the epidemic of gun violence plaguing our society, I don’t know when is. How many more Columbines and Newtowns must we live through? I am challenging President Obama, the Congress, and the American public to act on our outrage and, finally, do something about this."* *-- NY Rep. Jer... more »
