NRA's Absurd Scapegoating of Violent Movies, Video Games Doesn't Hold Up to Scrutiny
*By MARC McDONALD*
For five days after the horrific bloodbath at Sandy Hook Elementary School,
the National Rifle Association went eerily silent. They slithered under a
rock and nobody heard a peep from them until Friday. The cowards even
temporarily took down their Facebook page.
Finally, the NRA's head ghoul Wayne LaPierre spoke up. And in his idiotic,
error-filled statement, LaPierre fell back on the one of the gun lobby's
oldest scapegoating tactics. He blamed Hollywood for its violent movies, as
well as video game makers. He called them "a callous, corrupt and

Persons of the Year? But What Year?
*by Noah*
This is a tale of two men, both stuck in the past, and a magazine that
chose one of them as its "Person of the Year." One man's name is Mitt. The
other man's name is Barack. The followers of the former think that the name
of the latter is "strange." That is just one of the reasons why they voted
for their man; another is that their man held out the promise of turning
back the clock to at least the 1950s -- or, as comic Andy Borowitz says in
this piece, 1912.

The CIA has more blood on its hands than both the NRA and Al-Qaeda put

Obama's brainwashed true believers are more concerned about the *imaginary

What if 1 of the teachers had a gun? Sandy Hook massacre begs question of how to protect children at school

The recent mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn.,

his mother Nancy dead at their family home, then drove to the school, where
he gunned down six more adults and 20 children, before killing himself.

because the Blue Dogs are basically extinct, there weren't enough of them

US lost more troops to suicide than combat in 2012
PressTV
11, the U.S. military lost 165 soldiers to suicide, a record that narrowly
beat the 2009 level of 160. This year things have gotten much, much worse,
and up to the end of November the suicide deaths are up to 303.
Putting this in perspective, that’s actually quite a bit more than the
number of U.S. troops slain in combat so far in 2012. That figure is 212,
though the overall U.S. death toll in Afghanistan is 307, including
non-combat deaths.
The military has been desperate to get a handle on the rising suicide rate,

Botched stem cell facelift leaves woman with bones growing in her EYES
A Californian woman has been left with bones growing in her eyes after a
botched facelift using stem cell injections.
The gruesome tale involves a woman in her Sixties, who is said to have paid
$20,000 for the procedure at a Beverly Hills clinic.
But three months later, she was still in pain and noticed her right eye was
clicking, according to a report in Scientific American.

You can't make this stuff up: "Mark Sanford set to run for Congress again"
*He's ba-ack!* *Here he is at the 2012 Republican National Convention. (And
we know how well that turned out.)*

This one comes from the You Can't Make This Stuff Up Dept., with additional
reporting from the You're Kidding, Right? Dept.
Remember how we were just talking about the dangers of the media frenzy to
provide information consumers with "scoops." Well, this one apparently goes
to CNN, which is welcome to it. What's worse is, there doesn't appear to be
any reason to doubt the story. Unless you count common sense, which
apparently no longer figures into it.

*December 21, 2012* (Nile Bowie) - The ever-changing political landscapes

Why has Senator Casey now flipped on guns? Earlier, Senator Warner said he

In the case of Senator Casey, it seems the wisdom came from his wife!

Walmart SELLS OUT of guns as Americans rush to stockpile weapons in aftermath of Sandy Hook massacre
Demand for firearms has exploded in the U.S., wiping store shelves clean of
guns and ammo in nearly every town, city and state since the school
shooting in Connecticut and ensuing calls for stricter gun laws.
Gun retailers as large as Walmart are nearly sold out of every type of
firearm, including semiautomatic rifles like the one that 20-year-old Adam
Lanza used to kill 20 children and six adults at Sandy Hook Elementary
school on Friday.
A quick search for a handful of firearms that Walmart advertises turned up
no results at store locations in a dozen states, including New York, ... more »

America: Ban False Flags, Not Guns
The best way to get rid of terrorists and mass shooters is to ban false
flags. But very few people are calling for this reasonable solution.
Government violence doesn't bother them, it seems. It's much easier to
scream at Al Qaeda and the NRA than the CIA, Pentagon, Mossad, and White
House.
Instead of looking at the situation logically and with an open mind people
are getting hysterical just like they did after the 9/11 false flag. There
is now a media inspired witch-hunt against gun owners. They're the new
terrorists. Obama is copying Bush's war on terror crusade and applying it

Public fury over New Delhi gang-rape sparks protest across India
The gang-rape of a young woman in New Delhi has sparked public outrage
across India, bringing thousands of people onto city streets in protest
against authorities' failure to ensure women's safety.
Sexual violence against women often goes unremarked and unreported in
India, but on Friday hundreds of students and activists blockaded roads in
New Delhi and marched to the president's palace, breaking through police

Greenberg traces the history of Supreme Court nominations, noting that

Conservative ALEC Economic Policies Have No Benefit, Some Risks, for States
The economic policies proposed for states by the conservative American
Legislative Council Exchange (ALEC) not only don't work, but carry risks
for states' economies, according to new research by the Iowa Policy Project

As we have seen most recently with Michigan's passage of anti-union
so-called "right to work" legislation (which lets people free ride on union
contracts and makes union organization and representation more difficult),
the legislative agenda of ALEC proclaims that states should follow a
low-tax, low-wage, non-union route to economic prosperity. N... more »
