Secretary of State Hillary Clinton Hospitalized
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was admitted to New York
Presbyterian Hospital when doctors discovered a blood clot related to her
concussion earlier this month after a fall caused by dehydration during a
stomach virus. Naturally, conspiracy theorists, let's call them clotters,
are pooh-poohing the idea that Secretary Clinton is actually ill because
she's yet testify before the Senate on Benghazi.
Next thing we know, Fox "News" will be doing a late-breaking report
that blood clots have a liberal bias, according to a new study by the
Heritage Foundation.

Hillary Clinton hospitalized after doctors discover blood clot
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was admitted to a New York City hospital
on Sunday after doctors discovered that a blood clot had formed, the State
Department said in a statement.
Philippe Reines, a deputy assistant secretary, said in the statement that
the clot stems from a concussion Clinton sustained several weeks ago.
Reines said that Clinton, 65, is being treated with anti-coagulants at
NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital in Manhattan. She will be monitored there for
the next 48 hours, he said.

CSOs and State 17: UP Pahinungod and Typhoon Victims in Mindanao
The main characteristic of "civil society organizations" (CSOs) is
volunteerism. In contrast, the main characteristic of government and the
state is coercion. This makes the two rather a substitute, not complement,
for each other. There are several instances where they collaborate with
each other, and that's because government agencies, from local to national,
are so many that CSOs and other volunteer individuals have to work with
them to minimize duplication of certain functions.

The euro zone sovereign debt crisis is far from over even though reform
measures designed to address the roots of the problem are beginning to bear
fruit, German Chancellor Angela Merkel has said in her New Year's address.
In a taped interview to be broadcast on Monday evening, Merkel urged
Germans to be more patient even though the euro zone crisis has already

Fiscal deal stalls as clock ticks to deadline
Efforts to prevent the economy from tumbling over a "fiscal cliff" stalled
on Sunday as Democrats and Republicans remained at loggerheads over a deal
that would prevent taxes for all Americans from rising on New Year's Day.
One hour before they had hoped to present a plan, Democratic and Republican
leaders said were still unable to reach a compromise that would stop the
automatic tax hikes and spending cuts that could push the economy into
recession.
"There are still serious differences between the two sides," Senate
Democratic Leader Harry Reid said.

Perishing in a fire is an increasingly uncommon way to die for Americans.
Most who are killed in fires die from smoke inhalation.
Despite its relative infrequency, about 3,800 Americans die in fires every

times more often a cause of death.
Sadly, the AP is reporting that three residents of a San Jose apartment

The Partnership for Civil Justice Fund, in a groundbreaking scoop that
should once more shame major US media outlets (why are nonprofits now some
of the only entities in America left breaking major civil liberties news?),
filed this request. The document - reproduced here in an easily searchable

The Hoover Institute's Amazing Discoveries
I previously characterized much of the research published by "reformers" as
evidence-influenced, as opposed to evidence-driven. I cited criticisms by
Bruce Baker and Julia Sass Rubin of the new Hoover Institute CREDO study of
New Jersey charter schools. Today, however, I would like praise the
conservative think tank.
“Charter School Performance in New Jersey,” includes a repudiation of
everything that the Hoover Institute has advocated. It compares outcomes
for 77% of their study's charter school students with those of their peers
in traditional public schools (TPS). It finds ... more »
Top 10 Posts of 2012
It is time to look back on the top 10 posts of 2012. I was surprised how
prevalent the felt flower posts were in the top 10. I think I am going to
have to come up with some new felt flowers for 2013.
10. The Capriel Felt Flower. This twisty fun flower is perfect for those
printed felts.
9. Spaghetti Storage from a Pringles Can. We still use this in our
pantry.
8. The World's Best Homemade Play-doh. My little girl LOVES play-doh, so
we make this all the time.
7. The Camri Flower. This is another one of my favorite felt flowers.

7 injured, 20 missing in reoccurred Colombia landslide
At least seven people were injured and some 20 others went missing in a
landslide reoccurred Saturday in southern Colombia, relief agencies said.
The incident occurred when a bulldozer was removing earth that blocked a
driveway below the Andes Mountains in the aftermath of a previous

Hazmat called to ammonia leak in downtown LA
Firefighters said they sealed a significant ammonia leak coming from a pipe
at a cold storage facility in downtown Los Angeles on Saturday.
Firefighters were dispatched to the area after receiving a call about a
strong smell of ammonia. The leak was found on the roof of Los Angeles Cold
Storage Co. at 400 S. Central Ave. between 4th and 5th streets.
"We got LAPD on scene to assist us with the evacuation. We cleared about a
block in either direction and found out that we did actually have a leak
from one of the pipes on the roof," said Battalion Chief Greg Gibson of the

Obama says failure to reach fiscal deal would hurt markets
Financial markets would be affected adversely if U.S. lawmakers fail to
agree on a "fiscal cliff" deal before Tuesday, President Barack Obama said
in an interview broadcast on Sunday, while urging Congress to act quickly
to extend tax cuts for middle-class Americans.
Lawmakers are seeking a last-minute deal that would set aside $600 billion
in tax increases and across-the-board government spending cuts that are set
to start within days. If Congress does not make that happen, the first bill
brought up in the new year would be to reduce taxes for middle-income
families, Obama told NB... more »
Michigan hospital blazes trail in fungal meningitis fight
After his first day working at St Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor hospital's newly
created Fungal Outbreak Clinic, Dr David Vandenberg struggled to describe
to his boss the enormity of what lay ahead. He settled on a line from the
movie Jaws.
"We're going to need a bigger boat," Vandenberg told Dr Lakshmi
Halasyamani, chief medical officer of the Michigan hospital, echoing the
film's local police chief after he first eyes a 25-foot (7.5-metre) killer
shark.

Child Sex Rings Reveal Unspeakable Acts of Power Elite
Wikimedia image Nicholas West
One of the most difficult things to convey to people who are relatively new
to information that appears in the so-called alternative media is just how
diabolical the controlling elite really are.
People can seem to accept that the world is run by a bunch of ruthless
bankers, or perhaps they realize that presidents and national leaders are
puppets to corporate interests, or perhaps they even have come to grips
with the fact that "The Elite" are willing to destroy nations and people to
consolidate power and form a one-world government. Poison the planet... more »
Private Wealth and Public Squalor
Today's *Toronto Star *reports that things have been as they are in
Attawapiskat for decades -- and there's not a lot of hope that they will
change:
The community was founded in 1893 by Catholic missionaries. The steepled
church, an aging grey structure next to the Attawapiskat River, remains the
most striking structure.
In 1901, the Hudson’s Bay Co. built a store here. Most natives lived in the
bush at the time, hunting, trapping and fishing, and it was only in the
1930s that the settlement began to grow. Housing came in the 1970s, running
water and sewage treatment arrived i... more »
5 Facts To Take Away From The Tragedy In Newtown
Andrew Criscione
Speak Liberty Now
The recent school shooting in Newtown that killed 20 children and 6 adults
is a horrific tragedy, and
there are five very important facts to take away from it.
*1.) Gun-free zones are extremely dangerous.*
In Switzerland, where many adults carry semi-automatic weapons while in
the course of their daily activities,
“the gun crime rate is so low that statistics are not even kept.” (1) On
the other extreme is Norway,
where guns are very tightly controlled. This enabled a shooter to casually
take his time massacring over
70 children at the equivalen... more »
2012 Bird List
I'm not really a big fan of lists in general since most lists I do are of
all the errands and minutiae I have to attend to on my days off. When it
comes to birding I don't keep many lists either other than maintaining a
journal in which I check off species that I see. Earlier in the year I
decided to start a yearly bird list along with the date (when applicable)
of when I had my first sighting.
Its a modest list as I've seen ones by professionals that I could only
dream of. (According to this list from Bird Life International, there are
something like 192 species to be found her... more »
Will House GOP Succeed Where Senate Republicans Failed? Inflicting More Pain On Hurricane Sandy Victims
Bergen County's Scott Garrett sides with the Confederates against his own
constituents
Friday, the Senate passed a $60.4 billion aid package, 62-32, which the GOP
tried cutting back. Much of the money will be used for long-term
capital-intense projects to work on things like strengthening the NYC
subway system and rebuilding New Jersey’s devastated shoreline and to
further bolster FEMA, which has once again become an effective organization
now that the shrinking government small enough to drown in a bath is no
longer the underlying goal, as it was when Bush controlled the White Hous... more »

Pakistan militants kill 41 in mass execution, attack on Shi'ites
Pakistani militants, who have escalated attacks in recent weeks, killed at
least 41 people in two separate incidents, officials said on Sunday,
challenging assertions that military offensives have broken the back of
hardline Islamist groups.
The United States has long pressured nuclear-armed ally Pakistan to crack
down harder on both homegrown militants groups such as the Taliban and
others which are based on its soil and attack Western forces in Afghanistan.
