Japan Police: Motorway Tunnel Caves In
Police in Japan say a motorway tunnel has collapsed 50 miles west of Tokyo
and a number of vehicles are ablaze.
"We have limited information on the accident at the moment but smoke is
said to be coming out from the tunnel as an unspecified number of vehicles
were burning," a traffic police unit official said.
The accident occurred on the Tokyo-bound lanes inside the Sasago tunnel on
the Chuo Expressway at around 8am local time.

BATON ROUGE, La. — Gov. Bobby Jindal’s voucher program that uses tax
dollars to send students to private schools was ruled unconstitutional
Friday by a state judge who said it’s improperly funded through the public
school financing formula.
Judge Tim Kelley sided with arguments presented by teacher unions and
school boards seeking to shut down the voucher program and other changes
that would funnel more money away from traditional public schools.

How Likely is a Far Right Resurgence?
While I accept the basic points advanced, by way of a (sort of) reply to
Rob Ford's piece in this month's issue of *Progress* magazine, here are a
few thoughts on the far right. In my opinion there are a number of things
working against a revival of the BNP (or a successor organisation) in the
short-term. That, of course, comes with the caveat that this is no counsel

The House is scheduled to be in session on only 15 Fridays in 2013, an
almost 30 percent drop from 2011, according to the calendar released by
House Majority leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) on Friday.
In 2011, there were 21 scheduled Fridays, compared to only 15 planned for
2013. Members will work only one Friday for nine months out of the year,

A federal bankruptcy judge has approved bonuses for executives of Hostess,
the maker of Twinkies, who stay on as the company is broken up and sold off.
On Thursday, as part of a plan to liquidate the company and lay off 18,000
workers, a federal judge in White Plains, N.Y., approved paying 19 Hostess
executives bonuses totaling $1.8 million. Hostess has said it has interest

Jovan Belcher, 25, Killed Girlfriend, then committed suicide at a team facility
Reports are still coming in regarding a tragedy involving the Kansas City
Chiefs, but here's what we know at this time. Chiefs linebacker Jovan
Belcher shot and killed his girlfriend, Kasandra Perkins, at a house near
the team's facility on Saturday morning. Yahoo Sports' Jeff Passan, who is
on scene, confirmed the name of the player after speaking with local police.

Monsanto wants Congress to pass a law that would allow new genetically
engineered crops to be planted even when courts rule that the US Department
of Agriculture has approved them illegally. Federal courts have recognized
the importance of "a farmer's choice to grow non-genetically engineered

Hamas accused Israel on Saturday of violating the shaky, Egyptian-brokered
Gaza truce of November 21 after Israeli troops killed a Palestinian taking
part in a protest at the enclave's border fence.
Medical officials said the 21-year-old man had been among six Palestinians

Double-decker bus hits overpass at Miami Airport at least 1 Dead
Officials say a bus has hit an overpass at Miami International Airport,
killing at least one person and leaving more than two-dozen injured,
including three critically. Though the identity of the victim was not
revealed, photos of the accident indicated that she is a woman, according
to The Miami Herald.
Airport spokesman Greg Chin said the bus, which was a cruise or tour bus,
hit the overpass going into the airport's arrivals section on Saturday
morning. The bus was going about 20 mph when it clipped the roof entrance.

We headed up into the hills this week, to beautiful, rainy forests and a
family farm doing everything right. OCDIH, the organization I’m helping
with communications, wanted a case study to present to funders.
So we went to meet Rosa Margarita Escalón España. (We, because I recruited
