The Syrian-Turkish Border Is A Flashpoint For WWIII
At the moment, there is a low-level conflict on the Syrian-Turkish border.
There have been *clashes throughout the past year*, often times stoked by
the FSA, the foreign-backed Jihadist insurgency that is fighting Assad.
But if the United States government has anything to say about it this
conflict will get much larger. Washington has *deployed Patriot missiles
and soldiers to the Turkish border* to send a message to Syria* *that it is
serious about its threat to overthrow its regime.
There are many regional flashpoints in the Middle East, but military
experts believe that the Syri... more »
Pennsylvania nuclear power plant: Unexpected shutdown reported
An energy company says it’s trying to figure out why a central Pennsylvania
nuclear power plant reactor shut down unexpectedly.
PPL Corp says Unit 2 at the Susquehanna nuclear facility near Berwick shut
down early Sunday morning. The company says the reactor is safe and stable.
In a statement, Allentown-based PPL says the shutdown occurred during
routine testing of a valve on the unit’s main turbine system.

Ecuador declares orange alert near Tungurahua volcano
ECUADOR has issued an orange alert - the second-highest warning level - for
towns near the Tungurahua volcano, as its level of activity rose, civil
defence officials say.
The area of the warning covers the adjacent provinces of Tungurahua and
Chimborazo, according to the national civil defence agency.
Greater activity has been building since Wednesday, along with a slight
increase in gas emissions from the 5029-metre volcano, located about 135km
south of the capital Quito, the Geophysical Institute said.

Mayan 'death and rebirth' date marks the perfect time to tackle planet's crisis
At 12 minutes past noon last Wednesday, 12.12.12, 12 minutes of wintry
stillness was broken by the low chime of a gong. The crowd gathered around
the Chalice Well beneath Glastonbury Tor linked hands, looked skywards,
then touched the earth. A multitude of others did the same across the world
– only this place, as everyone knows, is rather special.
For many people, these days between last Wednesday, 12 December, and the
winter solstice on 21 December next Friday constitute a portal of some
kind, based upon a convergence of predictions in ancient calendars, notably

Emerging Europe: Goal challenged
For
the countries of central and eastern Europe, the unassailable momentum
of integration with Europe’s west has been a double-edged sword. For
much
of the past decade, the wealth gap between west and east has narrowed as
inflows of cheap capital helped power economic growth in the former
communist countries.

Who Says Obama's Policies Are Considered Republican? Anyone With A Brain-- Including President Barack H. Obama
If you've followed this blog with any regularity over the past few years,
you've probably noticed an uncomfortable disdain for Barack Obama-- going

This is my first Christmas ever outside of Canada. I’m not the type to

CSOs and State 16: The Integrity Initiative
Government is force and coercion. It is an institution created by men and
women mainly to protect themselves, their families and friends, their

contract" where people surrender a portion of their individual freedom to
the government, like the "freedom to revenge" and physically attack those
who committed physical aggression against them and their properties.
Government and its courts, justice and police system is supposed to do that
job, to penalize those who disrespect other people's right to peaceful
living.

Civilization and Insanity
Are we living in an insanity epidemic? Yes indeed, we certainly are,
according to *The Invisible Plague* by Dr. Edwin Fuller Torrey and Judy
Miller. This book provides an illuminating history of insanity, focusing
on the last three centuries in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada, and the
United States. “Insanity” here refers to two conditions, schizophrenia,
and bipolar disorder (manic-depressive). Today, “psychosis” is the proper
term for describing insanity and lunacy, but the authors preferred to use
history’s word, insanity.
The objective of this book was to convince us that... more »

Counterterrorism Center sweeping new powers to store dossiers on U.S.

Another person that fooled Penn & Teller
Like last night's post this is someone who fooled Penn & Teller
Why? And how? [update 3
*WHY? *
THAT’S THE FIRST question everyone asked after another idiot committed
suicide by massacre, shooting twenty-six adults and youngsters in cold
blood in a school in Connecticut before—well, who the hell cares what
happened to him after that. Twenty-six human beings died, and something
non-human.
Why did he do it? Why do any of these random shooters do it? An email doing
the rounds attributed* to Morgan Freeman (the modern American “voice of
God”) has one answer:
This may sound cynical, but here's why.
It's because of the way the media reports it. Flip on the news and

Adam Lanza Shooting: This Mass Murderer Might Have Been Motivated by Drugs, Not by Guns

And the Citizens Commission on Human Rights International (CCHRI) is

than 14 mass killings to the use of psychiatric drugs such as Prozac and

Adam Lanza's family 'a mystery'
While school friends recalled facets of Adam's personality, the family was
basically not well known to many neighbours, like relative newcomers the
Strocchia family.
“They are a mystery. Nobody knows about them. A lot of the people in this
neighborhood know each other. It was very hard to find that I didn't know
them and nobody on the block knew them,” said Len Strocchia, 46, who has
lived on the same street as the Lanzas for six years.

Mystery Man in Woods Handcuffed by Newtown Police: Solved?
*Questions still unanswered:*
1. If he found his daughter, why didn't he emerge with her?
2. Why was he reported being "in the woods" and wearing "camo"?

Nancy Lanza began hoarding such items because she feared that the financial

Evidence Suggests Now Is The Time For Pension Reform
Martin Regg Cohn writes that federal bureaucrats have presented Finance
Minister Jim Flaherty with a plan to shore up the faltering Canadian
pension system. Private pensions have been decimated by the Neo
Conservative Revolution. Cohn writes:
The world of pensions is collapsing around us. Traditional
“defined-benefit” pensions that reliably promise to pay a fixed amount in
future — really the only payments worthy of the name “pension” — are being
phased out in the private sector. The registered savings and pooled plans
offered up as alternatives are merely Potemkin pensions — glo... more »

*K-town by night.*
China Post editorial today puts its finger on a problem:
He wants to found a new political party to succeed an aging former
President Lee Teng-hui as godfather of the Taiwan Independence Movement.
Mr. Graft had his son Chen Chih-chung, a first-term Kaohsiung municipal
councilman summarily disqualified for involvement in his father's money
laundering, broach the news that a new party will come into being at a time
“favored by Heaven and benefited by Earth.” This is to be achieved by a

Ordering ambiguities and renormalization ambiguities
Greta asked:
I have been told that \[
[\hat x^2,\hat p^2]=2i\hbar (\hat x\hat p+\hat p\hat x)
\] illustrates *ordering ambiguity*.
What does that mean?
I tried googling but to no avail.
Thank you.
*LM:* The ordering ambiguity is the statement – or the "problem" – that for
a classical function \(f(x,p)\), or a function of analogous phase space
variables, there may exist multiple operators \(\hat f(\hat x,\hat p)\)
that represent it i.e. that have the right form in the \(\hbar\to 0\)
limit. In particular, the quantum Hamiltonian isn't uniquely determined by
the classical limit.... more »
Elder of Ziyon: Palestinian Arabs - killing their own kids to win a propaganda war
'Think about it from the Palestinian Arab leaderships' perspective. If
Israel gives them free treatment, they win. If the children die because
Israeli hospitals cannot afford to provide free care for them, they simply
publicize this and they win even more.
The only losers are the Palestinian Arab people - and they are just cannon
fodder anyway, if you are Mahmoud Abbas or Khaled Meshal. '

Merkel rips German opposition for blocking tax cuts
Chancellor Angela Merkel criticized the centre-left opposition for blocking
her government's efforts to cut income taxes by 6 billion euros, telling a
German newspaper those parties will have to explain that to voters in next
year's election.
Merkel, seeking a third term in September, also found fault with Social
Democrats (SPD) and Greens in a newspaper interview for thwarting a deal
with Switzerland to tax assets stashed by Germans in Swiss banks although
without revealing their names.

A True Story Of Forgiveness
*Forgiveness*
*A true story from ‘The Art of Forgiveness’ chapter in Jack Kornfield’s
book Bringing Home the Dharma:*
One 14-year old boy in the (juvenile offenders) program had shot and killed
an innocent teenager to prove himself to his gang. At the trial, the
victim’s mother sat impassively silent until the end, when the youth was
convicted of the killing. After the verdict was announced, she stood up
slowly and stared directly at him and said, “I’m going to kill you.” Then
the youth was taken away to serve several years in the juvenile facility.

Sammie Eaglebear Chavez arrested for 'plotting to bomb and shoot students at a Oklahoma high school' on SAME DAY as Connecticut massacre
A student from Oklahoma is in custody on charges of plotting to bomb and
shoot students at the Bartlesville High School auditorium on the same day
that more than two dozen people were shot and killed at an elementary
school in Connecticut.
Police arrested 18-year-old Sammie Eaglebear Chavez at about 4:30 a.m.
Friday after learning of the alleged plot Thursday, the Associated Press
reported.
An arrest affidavit says Chavez tried to convince other students to help
him lure students into the auditorium, where he planned to chain the doors
shut and start shooting.
