OH Sec. of State Apologizes to Federal Court For Appearing to Defy Ruling on Early Voting
Secretary of State Jon Husted (R) has apologized to a U.S. District Court judge who ruled against him last week, after the Secretary appeared to have tried to undermine the court's ruling, pending an appeal by the U.S. Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals. The apology came in a motion today, after Husted was ordered by the judge to personally appear for a hearing next week. As we reported last Friday, U.S. District Judge Peter Economus ruled in favor of a lawsuit filed by the Obama campaign and the Democratic Party, finding that Ohio's restriction on Early Voting in the final three days before the e

Do greenhouse gases warm the planet by 33°C? Jinan Cao checks the numbers.
Jinan Cao has been dissecting the nature of the greenhouse effect and a key calculation that I normally just accept without questioning. This will set a few pigeons loose, but it will be interesting to see where they land. The claims analyzed here are the oft repeated ones that the Earth’s greenhouse effect already warms us by 33°C and that a doubling of CO2 directly causes a 1.1°C rise (that’s with no feedbacks taken into account). Jinan points out that these numbers, repeated as “fact”, are merely a result of misuse of the Stefan-Boltzmann equation. If Earth is not a perfect black body, but

Nicaragua volcano belches ash cloud, residents evacuated

Is There A Lesson To Be Learned From The Sad Artur Davis Story? Yeah-- Fire Steve Israel Now
Artur Davis finally got a job. Romney named him to his (brand new) Black Leadership Council. [The chairs are notorious unhinged war-criminal Allen West (R-FL), Black teabagger Tim Scott (R-SC) and Rick Scott's Lt. Gov Jennifer Carroll.] Davis gave a lame, utterly unmemorable speech endorsing Romney at the GOP convention in Tampa and Democrats "got back" at them by rolling out two ex-Republicans, R

Interview 540 – Tom Secker on the Breivik Verdict
Last month Anders Breivik was sentenced to 21 years in prison for killing 77 people and injuring 200 in a bomb and shooting massacre in Norway last July. There are still unanswered questions about whether Breivik pulled off the attacks by himself, what the role of the organization he claims to be a part of really was, and whether the police investigation, trial and July 22nd Commission adequately

People Wading In Ohio River—I’m Not Certain That Is A Good Idea
Here is a picture I took a few days ago of people wading and just hanging out in the Ohio River in Downtown Cincinnati. The people have jet skis with them. I’ve never seen anybody just standing in the river. I’ve always known it as polluted to some degree and as having snapping turtles dredging about. I don’t believe that folks should be standing in the Ohio River.

Don’T We Call Them Traitors?
by Professor Ali Sukhanver A few media groups, some journalists and so many NGOs belonging to the Indian lobby in Pakistan are now-a-days earnestly working for the approval of free-trade facilities between Pakistan and India. If unluckily approved, such trade policy would prove a catastrophic disaster for Pakistan.  The ever-worst energy crisis in Pakistan has badly affected the industrial sector.
The nails just like the hairstyle
It has come to the notice that the nails just like the hairstyle of a person reflect the personality of an individual, while the shape of the nails can show the characteristics of a person. New information about Elianis Garrido and Bother Glory
New information has appeared about Elianis Carrido and Glory. Do not even get me started on how badly I want to run the mini-cams on the Big Brother house sets abroad, including the house that hosted Colombian TV personality Elianis Garrido, who has, naturally, been involved in various local illicit romances and gossip in her native Sudamericana. But, more significantly, the good folks at SoHo mag

5 Mysteries from the DNC
One perennial mystery going into the party conventions is which relatively unknown politician will take advantage of the spotlight and rise to national prominence, the way Barack Obama did in 2004. This year there were at least two answers to that mystery: Deval Patrick, the governor of Massachusetts, and Julian Castro, the mayor of San Antonio. But every convention also creates mysteries. Her
Father Roy Bourgeois’ Journey
I should begin this review of Roy Bourgeois’ eloquent pamphlet, My Journey from Silence to Solidarity, which is both autobiography and polemic, with a disclosure—that, after interviewing Bourgeois at length on several occasions, I consider him a friend. For me, an angry ex-Catholic atheist, Roy Bourgeois represents all that is admirable in Christian moral witness, more often than not honored in

Prosecutors: Secret ‘Militia’ in Army Planned to Blow Dam, Poison Apples
Four members of a secret militia group, now facing murder charges in Georgia, operated inside the ranks of the U.S. Army and discussed blowing up a dam and poisoning fruit crops in Washington State, authorities said Monday. The motives of the alleged plotters remained murky. The revelation came as Army Pfc. Michael Burnett, 26, struck a [...]
Editorial: Family Research Council Levels Dishonest Attacks at SPLC
Editor’s Note: The ongoing religious right attack on the SPLC, originally framed last month to suggest that the SPLC bore responsibility for a shooting at the Family Research Council because it had earlier named the FRC a “hate group,” has continued to expand to the point of absurdity. That was shown again last Friday, when [...]
Former SCV Leader Facing Prison for Massive Ponzi Scheme
A South Carolina extremist who helped engineer an attempt to turn the Sons of Confederate Veterans (SCV) into an actively neo-Confederate organization is now facing prison for his role in a Ponzi scheme that defrauded hundreds of people. Ron G. Wilson remains free on bond after pleading guilty on July 30 to two counts of mail [...]

Four of five self-proclaimed anarchists – calling themselves the Revolutionary People’s Party – have now confessed to involvement in a conspiracy in late April to use C-4 explosives to blow up an interstate highway bridge near Cleveland. After their arrests, most of the suspects quickly agreed to discuss their plans with FBI agents during middle-of-the-night interviews. [...]
