An Employment Lawyer's Debate Questions for President Obama
This is the first in a series that I am doing along with a group of

Here are some questions I’d ask the President at the debates if I had a

roads were cut off.

EU carbon market will be saved by a new boom of coal

The War On Coal... Miners
You may have read Kate Sheppard's story in *Mother Jones* last week about a
wealthy coal exec who dressed up like a coal miner to help right-wing
Republican Andy Barr beat right-wing Blue Dog Ben Chandler (KY-06). The
only preference I have in this race is that they both lose. I don't have
any idea why Chandler calls himself a Democrat. In the current session he
voted with the Republicans on 67.42% of the crucial, substantive roll
calls, more often than Republicans Ron Paul (R-TX) and Walter Jones (R-NC)
and almost exactly tied with Tim Johnson (R-IL). The only Democrats with

Iran says World War III may erupt if attacked by Israel

may erupt if the Islamic republic is attacked by Israel.*

of Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) , warned on Sunday that an
Israeli strike on Iran could trigger the World War III, Press TV reported.
Israel, threatening to destroy Iran's nuclear facilities these days, has
always been highly concerned over Iran's nuclear program, which is believed

Heywood Case: Wang Lijun Jailed for 15 years
The police chief who triggered a murder investigation into the death of the
British businessman Neil Heywood has been jailed by a Chinese court.
Wang Lijun was sentenced to 15 years in jail for what the Chinese
authorities called "bending the law for selfish ends, defection, abuse of
power and bribe-taking" according to the state-run Xinhua news agency.
Wang was the police chief of Chongqing city in south west China when Mr
Heywood was found dead in a hotel room last November.
Initially the authorities said Mr Heywood had died of natural causes, and

Kinky Campaigning
I think Paul Ryan got me mixed up with an escort service. He is really
taking all the press puffery about his buff bod way too seriously. This is
what he propositioned me with today:
Mitt and I will be touring the great state of Ohio on Tuesday and we are
looking for some company.
Hubba hubba.
The only catch is, I have to let him know by midnight tonight whether I'll
be available for the three-way. Do you think the wives know, or care? After
all, Ann Romney is the one who petulantly suggested we should all get in
the ring, because "this is hard." Should I notify the Obama Truth Sq... more »
Where did all the stars go?
When was the last time that you viewed a star-studded night sky?
In Seoul and other major cities, chances are that you have not seen one for
many years. And perhaps you never will.
A starry night is becoming like an endangered species here and elsewhere in
the developed world, with neon signs, street lights, giant ad screens and
decorations on office towers lighting up the night sky.
“Light pollution is, perhaps, the fastest-growing pollution these days.
What makes it more serious is that not many realize that,” said Lim
Jong-min, chief researcher at the Korea Institute for Lightin... more »

Private audiences only for Ann Romney
Well it looks like the Mittsters "secret weapon," her royal highness Princess
Ann Romney won't be speaking to the press for a while:
In Omaha for a closed to the press fundraiser for her husband Friday, Mrs.
Romney was supposed to give interviews to several reporters but canceled
due to the controversy over her blow up at Republicans on a radio
interview, in which she ordered Mitt’s Republican critics to “stop it.”
That would be Mrs. Romney's interview with Radio Iowa where she bitched out
her dear hubby's GOP critics:
“Stop it. This is hard. You want to try it? Get in the ring,”... more »
Every State's State/Local Tax System Taxes the Poor More than the Wealthy--And All Exceed Federal Taxes
A new report from the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy (ITEP)
shows that in every state in the country, the bottom 20% of households pay
more of their income in state and local taxes than does the top 1%.
Washington state was the worst, where the bottom 20% pay a whopping 17.3%
of their income in state and local taxes. This was followed by Florida at
13.5% and Illinois at 13.0%. Though the report hints at an exception, a
reading of their appendix shows that the only one is the District of
Columbia.
As the report points out, such high taxation increases the burden of

In a second term, can we look for some "real toughness" from the president? Hmm, E.J., I'm not so sure

Creepy Books to Read in October
Halloween may be more than a month out, but it's never too early to start
your Halloween book list. After all, you want to make Halloween a
month-long affair, not just a one-day frenzy at the end of the month.
I'm not much of one to be creeped out, but Halloween just begs to add a
little fear in your life. At least with books, I can always stop reading
and I'm limited by my own imagination, but when I watch scary shows those
images stick in my mind forever.
If you're not much of a scary book fan, it can be hard to think of
something creepy to read, so I've compiled a quick list of g... more »
Little known facts about me
Once I literally bought a tshirt off Abbie Hoffman's back. It's green. It
says: My country invaded Nicaragua and all I got was this lousy tshirt. I
still have it.
Paid eight bucks for it. My only regret is I didn't have him sign it. I had
a permanent Sharpie right there in my desk.
We talked for a long time. He told me about he time he smoked pot with Mick
Jagger. He said it was lousy weed. Afterwards, he tried to take me to his
hotel room. I didn't go.

As we begin our third day, it becomes important that we look at all of the
relationships currently in our lives; our physical, daily life contacts. You
do not exist in isolation. Even if you live alone, you have a mail
carrier, a grocer and a landlord. You have a job and work mates. Each of
these counts.
It is never true that you can see yourself as One with some of us, but not
with others of us. One is a singular mindset. It sort of blows out of the
water words like superior, prejudice, privileged, bigotry and segregation. This
is not to say those thoughts don’t exist, ... more »
