In a world where corporations are considered persons and a few individuals are funding the lion's share of the presidential elections, independent media is critical to keeping citizens informed and motivated defenders of democracy. An interview with Truthout's Leslie Thatcher.

The US government's growing reliance on aerial drones to pursue its war on al-Qaeda and the Taliban in Yemen, Afghanistan and elsewhere is proving controversial. What are the consequences for civil liberties and the future of war?

As governments are increasingly relying on drones, what are the consequences for civil liberties and the future of war?

Moses takes his rod and strikes all of the waters in Egypt turning all of the water into pure blood. All of the fish in the waters are killed and the Egyptians are loathe to drink from the river due to its stench!
God literally strikes and turns into blood all of their streams, rivers, ponds, and pools of water. This blood ran throughout all of the land of Egypt. However, several of the Pharaoh’s magicians were apparently able to do the same thing with their enchantments, and the Pharaoh still refuses to let the children of Israel go free after this first plague hits him full force.
If you missed the fun this last week, here's another opportunity to see Michelle Obama's speech. You'll notice she never mentions Mitt once, and still packs a punch. Did you think it was as fantastic as we thought it was?

A slew of “No on Prop 37” flyers, paid for by behemoth DuPont company and others, were distributed throughout the day to delegates. There were also small bags of flavored nuts with a “No on Prop 37” sticker covering, very symbolically, the entire nutrition and ingredient label. These wee handed out by one of the main spokespeople against the choice of GMO food labeling.

The court filing is the sharpest position yet taken by the U.S. government as it seeks to hold the British oil giant largely responsible for the largest oil spill in U.S. history. Gross negligence is a central issue to the case, slated to go to trial in New Orleans in January 2013. A gross negligence finding could nearly quadruple the civil damages owed by BP under the Clean Water Act to $21 billion.

Tom Ridge, the former Secretary for US Homeland Security and who was appointed on to the Advisory Board of Abraxas Corporation, also heads Mutualink, the communications platform being used jointly for US and Canadian domestic com’s coordination and NATO. For more on this click here. See also:

NATO and US Homeland Security link-up via comms resource – to a ‘very dark place’

NATO Special Operations Forces Headquarters (NSHQ) has selected Mutualink as its official communications platform and its coalition partners will be equipped with advanced anywhere, anytime, interoperable communications and information sharing capability. Interestingly, Mutualink is already integrated within US civil security systems and is being used on that basis with Canada too. In short, this is a significant step to linking global military systems with North American continent-wide domestic communications coordination.

Mutualink is a completely new paradigm that will enhance security, allow for standardization and improve flexibility and interoperability among all NATO Special Operations Forces (SOF) across the alliance.

But on examining the Mutualink website – here is the Canadian version – a very different picture is provided. The resource is all about the coordination of emergency systems – police, fire services, ambulance services, etc. Here it is promoted as follows… Mutualink, Inc. operates as an Internet protocol based multimedia interoperable communications company. It creates networks of interoperable emergency communities that enable users to share radio, voice, text, video, telephone, and data files on a real time basis. The company’s solutions also include Mutualink application software that converts communications and information input into IP packets and routing them to the appropriate destinations; Interoperability Workstation, a PC-based platform that provides the dispatcher with a graphical user interface to control and operate the Mutualink system; and network interface controllers for radio, video, telephony, intercom, and related communications interoperability. Its interoperable communities include local, state, and federal government; fire, police, and EMS; hospitals; critical infrastructure, such as utilities; schools and universities; school buses and mass transit; airports, ports, and shipping; and high value community assets. The company provides its solutions through resellers in the United States, Canada, Argentina, and the Middle East. Mutualink, Inc. was founded in 2006 and is based in Wallingford, Connecticut.
So which version of Mutualink is correct?
Answer: both

The Lost World of Kumari Kandam*

"We already know about many legendary cities that today’s world has lost in time. Some of those were the city of Atlantis, and the city of Dwaraka that is mentioned in Mahabharata. But out of all these, the
re existed one huge land mass to the south of today’s Indian peninsula extending from Kanyakumari in the north, and its sides touching as far to the west as Madagascar and as far to the east as Australia. This huge continent of the Tamil people was called Kumari Kandam or the Lemuria continent that was swallowed by the seas, and eventually lost forever. Hundreds of thousand years ago, continents started drifting, and different continents were formed. And after a much long time, the earliest human beings were born on the earth about 400,000 years ago.

During the end of the last Ice age, earth’s temperature started rising, large icy masses and glaciers started melting, and thus sea levels started rising. During this period, 12000 years ago, India’s Dravidian peninsula was swallowed by the ever rising seas. Various oceanographic researches have shown that the sea level in the Indian peninsula has risen by 100 meters within the past 14,500 years. There had been three major episodes of sea level fluctuations resulting in the submergence of the Kumari continent which existed to the south of Kanya Kumari (About 14,500 years ago, Sri Lanka was connected with Peninsular India!)The area had been ruled by the Pandya kings, and there are lots of scattered literary evidences to this lost land of the Tamils.

As per Adiyarkunallar, a huge landmass extending from Kanyakumari to a distance of 700 kavatams (unknown, obsolete unit) got sunken in the sea. During this civilization, Kumari Kandam land was divided into 49 territories (nadu). It had mountain ranges, and also had two main rivers- Pahruli and Kumari.

The earliest civilization that we know of today is the Sumerian civilization established in Mesopotamia (today’s Iraq) around 4000 BC. After this were the Egyptian civilization and then the Indus valley civilization But the Tamil civilization around Kumari Kandam had been much earlier than this, which would put it to the first in the time scale of civilization of mankind. What is even more interesting is that, many world-renowned researchers also claim to have deciphered the Indus script to be Tamil!"
