10 November - Quick Picks

After reading that piece on the demise of Pageflakes - I guess you can tell it's been a while since I used it regularly - I thought I'd have a look at other tools. It's been years since CNet made Newsburst available for a year or so - I used that too - and I'm  using Netvibes and have started a page at My Yahoo! since it's easy to throw RSS feeds in there with the tool blogs have available from 'Add This' ( me too ).  I have to admit it's been a while since I did much with Feed Readers installed in the computer ; mostly using Google Reader as an adjunct to Dashboard at Blogger. Alesti is on my newer but still old Linux unit.
But the writer was right to be p.o.'d.  Pageflakes did things I couldn't match elsewhere when it came to shared content in a multi page reader. I expect it's something to do with the ascent of Twitter as well - though early adopters pioneering applications seem to have no concept of the Long Tail : room for all preferences.
In fact, despite today's volume, my blogging is still loosely based on parameters I had to contend with when pages took a small eternity to load. Zemanta's pictures are a concession : but if you don't see them in a post, hassles loading is likely why.
