Mahalo asked below that you please help me make a film about why whales and dolphins beach themselves. He wants the entire human race to know how his fellow dolphins and whales are being slaughtered by the US Navy and the oil industry. As Mahalo told you, I've been working since 1972 to solve the mystery of why whales beach themselves. I finally unraveled the enigma and whole lot more along the way. My group was called the Moby Dick Society in the early days but we changed our name in 1988 to the Deafwhale Society. Most of our original members got tired of fighting the navy and the oil industry and gave up. I could not blamed them because we've had so many up and downs. Our greatest excitement came in 1992 when National Geographic Society agreed to make a one-hour TV special about our earthquake theory on why whales beached. We were working with Professor Jozef Zwislocki, Chairman of the Institute of Sensory Research at Syracuse University. We have Budweiser and Alcoa signed on to put the money. His team were going to do the necropsies. We were going to look for any evidence of a pressure-related injury in the sinuses, middle-ear cavities, and in the cochlea. The US Navy got wind of what we were about to do and sent representatives to persuade National Geographic and Syracuse University to back off the project or lose funding for other unrelated projects. I'm glad it happen that way because, even though I knew 20 years ago that earthquakes (seaquakes) were responsible for strandings, I did not fully understand how or why the Navy and oil industry would be so interested in killing my work. What they knew that I did not know at the time, was that seaquakes caused the exact same injury (barosinusitis) as did Navy sonar, explosives, and oil industry air cannons. Exposing barosinusitis induced by seaquakes would turned into "best available scientific information" and could then be used to legally shut down sonar and other instruments used to slaughter whales and dolphins.
