The Predictability of Human Nature

Until we stop deliberately cultivating violent retaliation for  our calculated destruction of non-military targets and escalating slaughter of innocent civilians, terrorism will continue to be a nine-headed hydra: cut off one head, and two will grow back. For every terrorist we kill under the guise of Keeping America Safe, many more will rise up like myrmidons from the plague-stricken earth, cursing us for the previous killing and claiming it as the reason for their remorseless rage. That doesn't sound like terrorism to me as much as it does perfectly predictable human nature.

I Don't Believe a Word This Government Utters...Especially in Regards to Bin Laden and 9/11

 May 7 2011  I don't trust known liars. I don't trust a government that launched a middle-east strategy based on a boogeyman and fabricated connections to a terrorist organization with a leader whom the US trained. I don't believe it is all a coincidence that high level officials were warned to not fly that day, or that Norad didn't scramble planes, and flight tapes were crushed and destroyed and thrown in garbage cans

And, I am sick of being called a 'conspiracy theorist' when the evidence contradicts their own claims and bolsters the case for logical scrutiny and a truly independent investigation. The killing of Osama Bin Laden has not been proven, and if we had him in our custody, that would have been very simple to do.

Dr. Alan Sabrosky, former director of studies at the USA army War College, has said in an interview that he is 100% CERTAIN that Israeli Mossad did the attacks on 9-11. The interview is on youtube. Dr. Steve R. Pieczenik, a top US government insider has said that Bin Laden died in 2001 and that 9-11 was a False Flag operation. That free public libraries are a democratising force is strongly apparent in Iraq, which suffered the near-obliteration of its libraries under the Ba'athist dictatorship.

Under the Saddam Hussein regime, libraries in Iraq, which had tried to meet the needs of the locals, suffered from budget cuts. The public library network collapsed. No new books were edited. Illegal photocopying of books took place. Library archivists lived in isolation from the rest of the world, not benefitting from training. During the invasion of 2003, most Iraqi cultural institutions were burned or looted apart from the region of Kurdistan. The National Library and Archive suffered considerable material and cultural damage, losing about 60 per cent of its archival collections, and the building itself was burnt and looted.

How we got into Iraq is the great open question of the decade but George Tenet in his memoir of his seven years running the Central Intelligence Agency takes his sweet time working his way around to it. He hesitates because he has much to explain: the claims made by Tenet's CIA with "high confidence" that Iraq was dangerously armed all proved false. 

Tenet's overriding goal in his carefully written book is to deny "that we somehow cooked the books" about Iraq's weapons of mass destruction. If he says it once he says it a dozen times. "We told the president what we did on Iraq WMD because we believed it." 

Tenet's problem is that the intelligence and the war proceeded in lockstep: no intelligence, no war. Since Tenet delivered the (shockingly exaggerated) intelligence, and the President used it to go to war, how is Tenet to convince the world that he wasn't simply giving the boss what he wanted? Tenet naturally dislikes this question but it is evident that the American public and Congress dislike it just as much.  

Manning already understood that people close to President Bush wanted to go after Iraq, and Tenet of course knew it too. Conspicuous among them, in his mind that night, was the neo-conservative agitator and polemicist Richard Perle, an outspoken advocate of removing Saddam Hussein by military force. 

On the very first page of Tenet's memoir, he tells us that he had run into Perle that very morning -- September 12 -- as Perle was leaving the West Wing of the White House. They knew each other in a passing way, as figures of note on the Washington scene. As Tenet reached the door Perle turned to him and said, "Iraq has to pay a price for what happened yesterday. They bear responsibility."

This made a powerful impression on the director of the CIA:

"I was stunned but said nothing.... At the Secret Service security checkpoint, I looked back at Perle and thought: What the hell is he talking about? Moments later, a second thought came to me: Who has Richard Perle been meeting with in the White House so early in the morning on today of all days? I never learned the answer to that question."

Cheney sent a speech over to the CIA for review making all the old arguments that there was a "link." Tenet tells us that he telephoned Bush to say, "The vice president wants to make a speech about Iraq and al-Qa'ida that goes way beyond what the intelligence shows. We cannot support the speech, and it should not be given." Why did Cheney press this point so relentlessly? Tenet tells a story that helps to explain the motives behind the struggle over "intelligence" between September 11 and the day American cruise missiles began to land on Baghdad, eighteen months later. Only a few days after September 11, Tenet writes, a CIA analyst attended a White House meeting where he was told that Bush wanted to remove Saddam. The analyst's response, according to Tenet:

"If you want to go after that son of a bitch to settle old scores, be my guest. But don't tell us he is connected to 9/11 or to terrorism because there is no evidence to support that. You will have to have a better reason."

The better reason eventually settled on by President Bush was Saddam Hussein's weapons of mass destruction. The evidence for WMD turned out to be even weaker than the evidence for "the link," but Cheney, with the full backing of the White House and the National Security Council, hammered without let-up on the horrific consequences of error -- discovering too late that Iraq had nuclear weapons meant that the smoking gun would be a mushroom cloud. It was vaguely believed at the time, by the public and foreign intelligence services alike, that the CIA must have learned something new; why else in early 2002 had Saddam Hussein suddenly become a threat to the world? In fact only one thing had changed -- the American frame of mind.

Editorial: The secret war with Iran

The talk of war against Iran has been going on since before 9/11. In fact a lot of things that have happened after 9/11 seem to have been planned before 9/11. Sources quote U.S. officials as having had plans pre-9/11 to invade Afghanistan and remove the Taliban and capture or kill Osama bin Laden. India has now moved to a stage where famous foreign think-tanks, particularly those from America, are making a beeline for India. In India, says Sanjaya Baru, who was media advisor to the prime minister in UPA-I, because foreign policy is closely guarded by career diplomats. He tells Outlook, “It’s very difficult for the government to take any inputs from anywhere else unless you are a member of the foreign policy trade union—the ministry of external affairs.” Yet Baru, who’s now with the London-based think-tank Institute for International Strategic Studies, admits that the government is already demonstrating flexibility on this score, something that was evident from a recent seminar on ‘Asian Security’ held by the MEA’s Public Diplomacy division. In the two-day seminar, a select group of academics interacted with officials on foreign policy.

N.S. Sisodia, director-general of Delhi’s IDSA, points to the flip side of the impact of think-tanks: “They could also lure away and denude India’s top think-tanks of their best experts.” Also, as a confident India reaches out to contend with the best brains of the US and elsewhere, it too, will have to prepare itself to the fact that ‘outsiders’ will try to influence policies in key areas. Indeed, the Indian foreign policy establishment will have to put its best foot forward to hold its own against them.

There Are Over 250 Different Kinds of Fossil Fuel Subsidies We Need to Kill

it should make you wonder why renewable energy has such trouble maintaining even the most modest of tax breaks: The Department of the Treasury’s Section 1603 cash grants program for clean energy projects just expired at the beginning of this year. Meanwhile, of course, the American oil industry alone reaps literally tens of billions of dollars in annual subsidies.

But it's not just the massive yearly tax breaks for Big Oil that comprises the advantage fossil fuels have over renewables–it goes deeper than that. GigaOm has an extensive report on fossil fuel subsidies, which helps to explain: "when an industry has been subsidized for almost a century, as is the case with the fossil fuel industry, the ways in which those companies are supported get numerous and complex. The OECD’s report counted at least 250 mechanisms. Unlike the 1603 Program of the Department of the Treasury for clean power, most subsidies are far more opaque."

Why gas mileage has barely budged since 1980

  A Survival Pack of any kind should be personal and not just something picked out of an advertisement, paid for then stored somewhere "to keep it out of the way."

Your pack should reflect what you need in an emergency  survival situation. It is perfectly okay to buy a survival pack  pre-made, but open it up and personalize the contents.
 There is always extra room in any survival pack that you might buy.  This is done purposely because everybody has their own personal equipment to add to any stock kit.
