22 September - Historical Perspective

China's Double Game on Terrorism

As the U.S. and its allies were reflecting on the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 atrocities, China's Communist regime manipulated the occasion to present itself as a victim of Islamic extremism. Beijing also accused the U.S. of practicing double standards by not giving unqualified support to its military offensive against what it calls "Muslim separatism" in northwest China. It insisted this campaign is an integral component of the war on terror.

( 'Imitation is the sincerest form of Flattery'  in the report of Propaganda Today. Like today's NATO occupation of Afghanistan, the USSR cited the need to staunch Islamic extremism as a cause of Occupation. The Taliban...are Saudi generated... and hate mainstream Muslims as much or more than any other group. )

The American Historical Association produced the G.I. Roundtable Series to help win World War II. Or so they were led to believe. In fact the U.S. Army sought the pamphlets as part of a larger effort to prepare for the transition to the postwar world, and represent a novel effort at social control.

Defiant Ahmadinejad prompts UN walkout

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Iran's president, has accused the United States of using the September 11, 2001, attacks as a pretext to launch wars on Iraq and Afghanistan.
He also attacked the US for its history of slavery, causing two world wars, using a nuclear bomb against "defenceless people," and imposing and supporting military dictatorships and totalitarian regimes on Asian, African and Latin American nations.
Without naming any country, the Iranian leader strongly attacked the role of the US and its allies in wars and the financial crisis and called on major powers to pay reparations for slavery.
"They officially support racism," Ahmadinejad said. "They weaken countries through military intervention and destroy their infrastructures, in order to plunder their resources by making them all the more dependent."

 All alone on Israel island

Solitude and Absurdity. Perhaps no two other words better described the scene at the United Nations earlier this year when US Ambassador Susan Rice raised her hand with a reluctant expression on her face to veto a Security Council resolution condemning Israeli colonial expansion. Fourteen of the fifteen members of the UN's most important body voted for this resolution save the United States.

The absurdity? The resolution was pieced together using language from speeches and statements American principals have made regarding Israel's illegal colonies. Susan Rice was effectively vetoing American policy and then found herself in the peculiar position of explaining why the US was against settlements despite vetoing the resolution.

Since 1972 the United States has been the single, solitary veto on 42 Security Council resolutions condemning Israeli violations of international law or human rights. Now, in light of the Arab uprisings and a recalcitrant Netanyahu government hell-bent on expanding Israeli colonies despite state US policy, Israel Island is not the comfortable destination it used to be.

So why would the Palestinians, who don't want to alienate the United States, force the question by bringing their application to the Security Council?

It's Official: Obama Has Deported More Than A Million Unauthorized Immigrants

The Obama administration had deported about 1.06 million as of September 12, against 1.57 million in Bush's two full presidential terms.
That's right, Obama is on the verge of deporting more undocumented immigrants in a single term than Bush did his full eight years in office.

Sick Gulf residents continue to blame BP

Dr Wilma Subra, a chemist in New Iberia, Louisiana, has tested the blood of BP cleanup workers and residents.
"Ethylbenzene, m,p-Xylene and hexane are volatile organic chemicals that are present in the BP crude oil," Subra explained to Al Jazeera. "The acute impacts of these chemicals include nose and throat irritation, coughing, wheezing, lung irritation, dizziness, light-headedness, nausea and vomiting."
Subra explained that exposure has been long enough to create long-term effects, such as "liver damage, kidney damage, and damage to the nervous system. So the presence of these chemicals in the blood indicates exposure".
Testing by Subra has also revealed BP's chemicals are present "in coastal soil sediment, wetlands, and in crab, oyster and mussel tissues".
Pathways of exposure to the dispersants are inhalation, ingestion, and skin and eye contact. Symptoms of exposure include headaches, vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal pains, chest pains, respiratory system damage, skin sensitisation, hypertension, central nervous system depression, neurotoxic effects, genetic mutations, cardiac arrhythmia, and cardiovascular damage. The chemicals can also cause birth defects, mutations, and cancer.

A New Weather Pattern Has Emerged

Let's take a look at the Ocean jet Stream otherwise known as the Thermohaline Circulation. That convergence point in the North Atlantic, where the warm waters return South as a cold water current, no longer exists because the permanent Ice cap is no longer blocking the Ocean current flow northward.

Just to be contrary, I note that the ice pack FLOATS above the ocean. But...

Gulf criminals freeze to death N Europeans

"A cursory look at a map of the Gulf Stream shows that the oil is not just going to cover the beaches in the Gulf, it will spread to the Atlantic coasts up through North Carolina then on to the North Sea and Iceland. And beyond the damage to the beaches, sea life and water supplies, the Gulf stream has a very distinct chemistry, composition (marine organisms), density, temperature. What happens if the oil and the dispersants and all the toxic compounds they create actually change the nature of the Gulf Stream? No one can rule out potential changes including changes in the path of the Gulf Stream, and even small changes could have huge impacts. Europe, including England, is not an icy wasteland due to the warming from the Gulf Stream."
In August, scientists noticed the Gulf Operation had halted the Gulf loop enough to have lowered North Atlantic water temperatures. (Also see: US Gulf Operation hits millions across Atlantic Dupré, D., Examiner, Dec. 2, 2010)
According to Lord Stirling's 9 August, 2010 article Special Post - Gulf Stream & North Atlantic Current Dying, the Italian theoretical physicist Dr. Giangluigi Zangari had cited satellite evidence in which the Gulf of Mexico crude oil and Corexit not only broke the Gulf Loop, but also resulted in a "dramatic weakening in the vorticity of the Gulf Stream and North Atlantic Current, and a reduction in North Atlantic water temperatures of 10C." Pollution

How to kill the Gulf’s dead-zone zombie

The majority of the nutrients that enter the Gulf come from agriculture. No one is suggesting that we stop producing food in the Mississippi River basin -- that would just mean more land is cleared elsewhere for crop production. So the big question is: How we can produce food without leaking so many nutrients into the water?

Solar Power

Utilities cash in when you go solar

Net metering doesn't do a whole lot for the customer's bill, but it sure makes the utility happy.

With net metering, the utility treats solar PV electricity generation exactly the same as it would conservation or energy efficiency (with the exception that solar usually gets a more generous rebate). And since both of these strategies are significantly less expensive than PV for reducing electricity demand, the customer loses out.
The customer loses, but the utility wins.
