- Initial Jobless Claims Jump By 34,000According to the Labor Department, initial jobless claims rose to 386,000 this week, from an adjusted number of 352,000 last week. Analysts had expected claims to rise to 365,000. Last week’s unexpectedly low number of claims is attributed to fewer auto industry layoffs.
