The Best Economic/Political Prediction of the last few years
Who made the Best Economic/Political Prediction of 2020? I assert that it was yours truly. Sure, some savvy folks projected (I did) that Vlad Putin would enter into a warlike spasm end-game, once western agencies were unleashed (post-Trump) to fight back. Others were on target with election forecasts, or tech breakthroughs, or investment strategies… and I am on-record (from 15 years ago) predicting that 2023 would see the ‘flying car.’ Amateurs can get it right, sometimes. *But how about forecasting the exact pattern of US federal deficit-to-GDP ratio, across all administra... read more

We don't need more Stat holidays
I just want to restate the obvious. We can't keep adding more and more stat holidays indefinitely. At some point we are going to have to draw the line and now is as good a time as any. My employer pays me for 11 stat holidays in the year. That's almost one a month. That's enough. We can negotiate weeks of holidays for years of service buy companies have to make a profit. Politicians love to spend other people's money. Christy Clark made that family day in February. So what happened? I lost my floater and got a fixed day in February. Thanks for nothing Christy. The Troubled Legacy of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman
Suhrawardy and Sheikh Mujib in 1949 Sheikh Mujibur Rahman is eulogized as the freedom fighter who led the successful campaign for Bangladesh’s independence from Pakistan and, in 1971, became the country’s first prime minister. But he had a murky background. He honed his political skills in one of the most turbulent and violent periods in Bengal’s history. Sheikh Mujib's political career took off in 1938, when he came in contact with Huseyn Shaheed Suhrawardy. Suhrawardy asked Sheikh Mujib to organize Bengal’s Muslim youth into a political body. Washington Post: Climate Change is Fueling Super Hurricanes -- Is it really?
The Washington Post on 30 September 2022, claimed that "climate change is fueling the creation of super hurricanes." The article says that "as waters warm, 7 super storms have lashed the U.S. since 2017." The article argues that ocean water is warming, apparently due to global warming, not either warming or cooling climate change. It argues that hurricanes draw their energy from warm water and therefore become stronger and more frequent. Yes, hurricanes do draw their energy from warm water, but they also require wind shear to form as hurricanes. Since global warming does not m... read more

What is the miracle promise in fairy tale and folklore that has gladdened the eyes of children?
