Tampa Bay teachers share horrendous working conditions, demand their contract is ratified
Members of the Hillsborough County teachers union packed the school board meeting, September 20, to demand a better contract that takes teachers' needs for a livable salary into account. A sea of the union's red shirts confronted the board members and the county's superintendent, who with faux concern, offered nothing but the platitude that he "heard" teachers’ concerns. The crisis could not have been clearer to anyone with eyes and ears, as union members shared stories not just of having to work second jobs for pennies, but unsafe conditions for students. One teacher said that be... read more

“Unexplained Deaths” Becoming #1 Cause of Death in 2022 in Canada, Australia, and Europe – Deaths Among Children and Young People Explode in Europe
One of the statistical anomalies we saw in 2021 that the corporate media refused to address, was the fact that more people died "from COVID" in 2021 than in 2020 when the "pandemic" started and reached its height, and after the FDA fast-tracked several new drugs and vaccines to "prevent COVID" or "reduce the chances of death" from COVID-19 at the end of 2020. While the corporate media and the U.S. Government "health" agencies never even considered the possibility that the excess deaths in 2021 could be due to the massive rollout of the COVID-19 vaccines and mandates, those of us i... read more

Chris Hedges Report: Julian Assange’s Father Speaks Out
The long campaign against Julian and WikiLeaks is a window into the collapse of the rule of law, and the rise of what the political philosopher Sheldon Wolin calls a system of inverted totalitarianism—where the outward symbols of capitalist democracy remain, but the system itself is captured by corporate interests. Assange has spent over a decade fighting imprisonment, extradition, and CIA espionage. On Oct. 8, Chris Hedges and others will gather in Washington, DC, to demand Assange’s release at the same time that protestors surround the British Parliament. For this special episod... read more
Asylum, Migration And US Foreign Policy
Every day the republican governors of Texas, Greg Abbott, and Florida, Ron DeSantis, eagerly announce that they are sending people generically labeled as migrants to what are known as sanctuary cities. The corporate media report that thousands of people have been convinced to board buses to New York City or Washington DC or Sacramento or Chicago or even chartered flights to Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts. What they don’t explain is who these migrants are and why their status is highly problematic and a function of imperialist foreign policy. Republicans rail against what are cal... read more
John Pilger’s 2014 Warning About Ukraine
Why do we tolerate the threat of another world war in our name? Why do we allow lies that justify this risk? The scale of our indoctrination, wrote Harold Pinter, is a “brilliant, even witty, highly successful act of hypnosis”, as if the truth “never happened even while it was happening”. Every year the American historian William Blum publishes his “updated summary of the record of U.S. foreign policy” which shows that, since 1945, the U.S. has tried to overthrow more than 50 governments, many of them democratically elected; grossly interfered in elections in 30 countries; bombed ... read more

Iranian 'hair' police murder woman then 35 protesters
PJ Media: At least 35 Iranians have been killed in the protests that are sweeping the country following the death of a 22-year-old Kurdish woman, Mahsa Amini. The young woman was snatched off the street two weeks ago by the morality police because too much of her hair was showing under her headscarf. Three days after her arrest, she was rushed to a hospital and put on a respirator after being severely beaten while in police custody. What makes this protest movement different is that it’s the first one specifically about women and women’s rights. The protests also highlight the p... read more

Red States: It’s getting to be a thing now — the questionable FBI raid with political overtones — under the Biden Administration. That’s a frightening thing to say. The latest victim of the armed FBI agents raiding people’s homes first thing in the morning for things that don’t seem to justify it is Mark Houck, founder, and president of “The King’s Men,” a group that promotes healing for victims of pornography addiction and promotes Christian virtues among men in the United States and Europe. In Mind-Blowingly Hypocritical UN Speech, Biden Tries To Rewrite History
US President Joe Biden spoke at the United Nations General Assembly on September 21. He used the platform to try to portray the United States, the world’s leading violator of international law, as its protector. Biden called “to hold Russia accountable for the atrocities and war crimes” it allegedly committed in Ukraine. But Biden declared from the UN podium: “If nations can pursue their imperial ambitions without consequences, then we put at risk everything this very institution stands for, everything.” In the following analysis, journalist Ben Norton fact-checked the deeply mis... read more

Despite What Biden Says, The Pandemic Isn’t Over
On Sunday night, Joe Biden declared in an interview on CBS’s 60 Minutes that the Covid-19 “pandemic is over.” Not so coincidentally, this statement comes right after existing federal pandemic response funding has run out, and after attempts at approving more money were routinely removed from spending bills in order to designate more money for Ukraine. If the pandemic is “over,” the government can be excused for failing to provide additional support. But while official cases, hospitalization, and death counts are all much lower now compared to the peak of the Omicron wave in Januar... read more
Punishing Cuba: The Self-Serving ‘State Sponsors Of Terror’ List
Today car and bike caravans in many U.S. cities are rightly demanding that Cuba be taken off the U.S. State Department’s “State Sponsors of Terrorism” list. Did you know there was such a thing? Every presidential administration appoints a secretary of state. Now it is Antony Blinken; before him was Mike Pompeo, and under Obama it was John Kerry and Hillary Clinton. And the president, through the secretary of state, can put countries on this list or take them off. It is that arbitrary. As a parting slam against Cuba, on Jan. 12, 2021, just eight days before Joe Biden assumed the ... read more

Four Bengal tigers that were abandoned 15 years ago by a travelling circus are starting a new life in South Africa. It's not the books that suffer
I've started trying to avoid using the phrase "book bans" or "banning books." Here's why. I understand that the phrases carry power and punch. They're short and sharp and they have associations; nobody ever thinks that someone who's proposing a book ban is the good guy. For that matter, nobody who wants to ban a book ever says, "We want to ban that book." But I'd like to suggest a refocus on the language. I don't have a punchy substitute, but I'm tending toward "reading restrictions," and here's why. A book ban is about a book. We imagine a book being pulled off a shelf, maybe ev... read more
