A New Third Party Just Launched
We finally have a real third party in the United States that the mainstream media is willing to talk about. I bet they’ll give them ballot access and everything. And this new party has nothing to do with the Democrats or the Republicans, right? As Reuters reported - “Former Republicans and Democrats form new third U.S. political party”. Wait? Made up of Republicans and Democrats?? You can’t form a new party out of the rejects from the old parties. That’s like having a counseling group for trauma victims made up of former Seal Team Six members. Let’s keep reading. Maybe I’m being ... read more
US Government Is World’s Worst Violator Of Freedom Of Press
The US government employs many strategies to try to justify its intervention in the internal affairs and violation of the sovereignty of foreign nations. Chief among these deceptive tactics is Washington’s weaponization of accusations that its adversaries violate the freedom of expression. This is quite ironic, given that the United States is the world’s leading violator of press freedoms, according to any consistent definition of the term. And unlike the countries that Washington claims supposedly repress the freedom of expression within their borders, US government censorship o... read more

Here is a guide for the perplexed. What do we know about the law enforcement activity on Monday at Mar-a-Lago? On Aug. 8, federal agents searched former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago property in Palm Beach, Florida. Trump, who was in New York at the time, released a statement calling the search an “unannounced raid” involving a “large group of FBI... read more

The beginning of Biden's downhill slide
Aamer Madhani: *A Year After Afghan Miscalculations, Biden Admin Struggles To Find Footing* ... It was a disquieting bookend to the 20-year American war: the U.S.-backed Afghan government collapsed, a grisly bombing killed 13 U.S. troops and 170 others, and thousands of desperate Afghans descended on Kabul’s airport in search of a way out before the final U.S. cargo planes departed over the Hindu Kush. The disastrous drawdown was, at the time, the biggest crisis that the relatively new administration had faced. It left sharp questions about Biden and his team’s competence and ... read more

A Legislative Staff Unionization Wave Is Hitting Blue State Capitols
A white-collar unionization wave is hitting legislative chambers in Democratic-leaning states across the nation. Frustrated by low pay and long hours, state house staffers in Massachusetts, California, New York and Washington state are seeking to organize. They hope to join their counterparts in Oregon, who became the first in the nation to unionize in 2021. The organizing effort in state capitols mirrors a similar push in Congress. Were the Mar-a-Logo documents already declassified?
Matt Margolis: On Monday, the FBI executed a search warrant of Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home that was approved by a magistrate judge who is not only linked to Jeffrey Epstein but was also an Obama donor. According to CNN, the raid was “part of an investigation into the handling of presidential documents, including classified documents, that may have been brought there.” If that is the case, then this further proves that the raid was an abuse of power, because we’ve known for months now that the documents in question were already declassified by then-President Trump. “Trump declassifie... read more

Australian Labor Party And Assange: Burying The Politics

The misnamed Inflation Reduction Act
It's no shock to me that this Inflation Reduction Act is the opposite of the words, but a tax grab--exactly the intention of the Democrats. It's the government that got us into this mess by throwing money at anything that moved from 2019-2022, and that includes the Trump years. "Using the Tax Foundation’s General Equilibrium Model, we estimate that the Inflation Reduction Act would reduce long-run economic output by about 0.1 percent and eliminate about 30,000 full-time equivalent jobs in the United States. It would also reduce average after-tax incomes for taxpayers across every in... read more

But a prisoner swap might mean she’s free much sooner. “I never meant to hurt anybody,” Brittney Griner told a Russian judge during her sentencing hearing last week. “I made an honest mistake. Follicle Stimulating Hormone May Increase Risk Of Obesity After Menopause
Obesity is correlated to risk for breast cancer after menopause and new study suggests that this adiposity is related to the follicle stimulating hormone (FSH). It is only an observational study, in the exploratory section and not causal, but the authors say their examination of hormone levels from samples stored in a Women’s Health Initiative biobank is the largest study of its kind in older women. A hormone released by the pituitary gland, FSH plays an important role in female development and reproduction by stimulating growth of the ovarian follicle before ovulation. read more read more

Ecuador: a new failed state?
As happened in the 1990s, the Ecuadorian population took to the streets in recent years with two formidable mobilizations: that of October 2019 against the economic adjustment perpetrated by Lenin Moreno and in June 2022 against the neoliberal policies and the misrule of banker Guillermo Lasso. However, both periods are not comparable. Three decades ago, […] read more

Senator Tim Scott on FBI Raid of Trump Home, ‘We Need to Let This Play Out’
It’s not very often that you get to watch a DeceptiCon evolve in real time. Usually, with history as a guide, DeceptiCon extremists hibernate in the evolutionary process for years, only leaving a minuscule trail from which to find them until they detonate like stealth terror cells. However, Tim Scott has prematurely detonated himself. Appearing […] The post Senator Tim Scott on FBI Raid of Trump Home, ‘We Need to Let This Play Out’ appeared first on The Last Refuge. read more
The UN Just Declared The Human Right To A Healthy, Sustainable Environment
Climate change is already affecting much of the world’s population, with startlingly high temperatures from the Arctic to Australia. Air pollution from wildfires, vehicles and industries threatens human health. Bees and pollinators are dying in unprecedented numbers that may force changes in crop production and food availability. What do these have in common? They represent the new frontier in human rights. The United Nations General Assembly voted overwhelmingly on July 28, 2022, to declare the ability to live in “a clean, healthy and sustainable environment” a universal human r... read more
Black Women Will Face the Brunt of Abortion Bans. The Solution Is Universal Healthcare.
On July 29, Louisiana reinstated a controversial abortion ban, which led to the immediate cancellation of procedures in the state. Following the Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade in late June, a number of states across the country have moved to outlaw abortion, and in Louisiana, women in poverty will bear the worst burdens of the newly reinstated ban. These women are the true experts regarding the fatal risks of taking away reproductive freedom in the state — not anti-abortion politicians. The politicians gutting abortion rights likely don’t understand the pain of holding... read more
How Activism Labour Defies Capitalism
It only takes one doom scroll through social media to see there is no shortage of injustice in the world. But there is also no shortage of people who have dedicated themselves to dismantle systems of violence and advance justice through activism. With how deeply entrenched injustice is in our society, the work to dismantle injustice is a full-time job. Despite the hours put in, this job does not fit a capitalist and colonial view of labour. El Jones, a prison abolitionist dedicated to fighting state violence, said that for Black people, there is a historical precedent that makes i... read more

Why Hollywood keeps getting abortion wrong
[image: A young woman stands in a room, walls covered in graffiti.] Jenny Slate in *Obvious Child*, a rare depiction of abortion that matches many Americans’ reality. | A24 This researcher interviewed dozens of writers, creators, and showrunners about onscreen abortion. Here’s what she learned. We’re a screen-soaked culture, and that means that what we see on TV and in movies often serves as a framework to look at the world around us. That’s certainly true for abortion. It’s still rare to see an abortion depicted, and even more rare to see it in a situation that matches the circum... read more
