Non-Crime And Punishment In The USA
A recent article discussed how criminals of a certain type are being given carte blanche by progressive (read corrupt) district attorneys in states controlled by Democrats to terrorise the public. Here, we will look at people being punished excessively for trivial or even for imaginary crimes. As usual, the main culprits are Democrats. One of […] read more

THE NARRATIVE
All of us live with “narratives” in our lives. I look at these narratives as “shortcuts” to knowledge provided by others. One of my favorite songs has been Leonard Cohen’s “Everybody Knows.” The first “trusted sources” for these life narratives were usually our parents. We accepted what they had to say about the world as […] read more

Ukraine Should Admit Defeat NOW! Says Top U.S Military Leader
source Despite all the effusive praise the brave Ukrainian military has received in the western press, extolling all the humiliating defeats the Ukrainians have dealt the Russians, the reality on the ground appears to be entirely in Russia’s favor. And that reality was acknowledged on a recent Council of Foreign Relations Zoom call by retired […] read more

And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?
I was reading a comment elsewhere that referred to a BBC Reality Check following the Texas shooting headlined *US gun control claims fact-checked*. It's one of those pieces where the facts 'checked' seem to fit with a particular point of view on the fact-checker's part. In other words, though it goes through the motions of 'BBC impartiality', it selectively 'checks' two Republicans and one Democrat, and the two Republicans come out of it much worse. Interestingly, the BBC ends with a correction - a 'reality check' on itself: Correction 30 May: An earlier version of this piece state... read more

...the same spinal integrity as a sea anemone
Jeremy Clarkson, once of the BBC, has a superb piece in *The Sunday Times* in defence of “us oldies” headlined *Don’t cancel us oldies just yet. We’re trying harder than anyone to do the right thing*. His starting point is Len Goodman appearing on the BBC's Platinum Jubilee coverage and saying how much he loves coronation chicken but didn't eat it when he was younger because his gran considered curry powder to be “foreign muck” - as, indeed, did mine. An inevitable eruption of foolish activists immediately ensued...: Everyone with spots and hormonal issues ran around waving their pi... read more

The Strange Case of 'The BBC-Deprived'
Peter Hitchens, in his *Mail on Sunday* column a few weeks back, mentioned an experiment about the BBC. 200 people, many allegedly BBC sceptics, were kept BBC-free for nine days and most of them ended up saying they couldn't live without the BBC. It's something I'd heard about earlier because BBC types were gloating about it on Twitter. I'm sceptical. I've managed to almost entirely avoid the BBC's output for over two months with no adverse consequences or regrets whatsoever. The exception was *Composer of the Week *on Radio 3, which - see a few posts below - was celebrating a ma... read more

“A horribly preachy [BBC] drama”
Even the left-wing, pro-BBC *New Statesman* has a problem with BBC drama. It headlines a review by Rachel Cooke of BBC Two's *My Name is Leon* “a horribly preachy drama” and summarises it in this way: This BBC film about a child dealing with racism in 1980s Birmingham promises real-world lessons but delivers saccharine platitudes. Rachel Cooke further chargrills it thusly: Horribly preachy and overly schematic, this film feels more like one made for children than for adults – and sure enough, every single actor in it turns in the kind of ostentatiously heart-warming performance ... read more

Indian Money for Britain’s African Adventure
In 1868, Britain declared war on the Ethiopian Empire (Abyssinia). An army was dispatched under General Robert Napier to crush the Ethiopians. The cost of this military expedition, amounting to around 600,000 British pounds, a very high sum in those days, was extorted from the starving Indian peasants. Between 1868 and 1870, there was a famine in several parts of British India, and millions were starving to death. But the British used Indian wealth and Indian grains to fund a military adventure in another continent (Africa). They did not impose the burden of this war on their coloni... read more
