The breeding-ground for "woke" District Attorneys and politically correct prosecutions?
The New York Post says the problems originated at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice. Ground zero for woke district attorneys is a left-wing think tank in the heart of the Big Apple. The Remains of the Day, Or What is Left After the Collapse of Constitutional Remedies
For the Balkinization symposium on Aziz Huq, The Collapse of Constitutional Remedies (Oxford University Press, 2021). Marin K. Levy If we live in a world of “lumpers” and “splitters,” then Aziz Huq is a lumper—and to great effect. The first, Seila Law, LLC, is a firm that was under investigation by the Consumer Finance Protection Bureau; Seila Law argued it did not have to cooperate on the ground that the C... read more
The Quixote Quest for Reason
“There are two excesses: to exclude reason, and to admit reason only.” ~ Blaise Pascal Pascal is right. To exclude reason and to admit reason only are equally harmful for mankind. If you exclude reason, you are trapped in a cycle of mysticism, traditionalism, and rationalism; if you depend on only reason, then you are trapped in a cycle of nihilism, rationalism, and utopianism. It is natural for people to look for self-esteem. For the modern man, the simplest way of having self-esteem is to develop the notion that he represents the side of reason or science. But his belief in the c... read more

Biden bribes the Unions
NY Post Editorial: In a move guaranteeing that last year’s bipartisan infrastructure package will give less bang for its trillion bucks, President Biden last Friday signed an executive order requiring every federally funded construction job above $35 million in cost to be governed by a Project Labor Agreement — which is essentially a license for labor-union blackmail. Federal construction is already covered by “prevailing wage” laws that impose “list” union pay rates (even as union workers regularly agree to work for less on private projects), markedly boosting costs. But Biden’s... read more

Women are a key to GOP retaking the House
John Sexton: You probably remember that in the run up to the 2020 election the expectation was that Democrats could pick up as many as a dozen seats in the House. Instead, despite Joe Biden winning the White House, the GOP wound up flipping 13 seats held by Democrats and most of the candidates who flipped those seats were women. “What [GOP leaders] learned from the cycle is that women can win,” said Sarah Chamberlain, a GOP strategist who runs the moderate Republican Main Street Partnership and has been trying to elect more women for years. “As a woman, as a mother of a daughter... read more

But the aforementioned Rocket.Chat communiqués, which appeared in December 2021, had another message: Imagine with me, brothers, if Muslim refugees in Crusader Europe took hostages while the pigs [Christians] celebrate their polytheistic holidays and forced the European crusaders to order their angry dogs to release our sisters from the Al-Hawl and Ain Issa camps or else they would cut off the pigs' heads.
