era of poisonings: from KGB to mRNA vaccines
While the unit’s legitimate purpose is forensic investigations, former Soviet and Russian intelligence officers who defected to the West have described it as also running a secretive poison laboratory which, during the Soviet era manufactured poisons used for assassinations of Western diplomats, Ukranian nationalists and Soviet defectors. Former KGB general Oleg Kalugin told The Guardian in 2018 that one of the first projects by this KGB lab was preparing the ricin-filled micro ball used to assassinate Bulgarian emigre writer Georgi Markov, killed in London in 1979. The Billion dollar vaccine industry
The Canadian Press is reporting that "The specifics of what Canada paid for the 250 million doses of vaccine it pre-purchased have been hard to come by. The 2021 budget released in April said the total was somewhere around $9 billion. The Pfizer contract was one of eight quietly shared with the health committee Friday." That was just the first splash. This multi-billion-dollar industry murdered the Shermans because they were undercutting their profits through the introduction of generic drugs. A Pigou Biography
Ian Kumekawa's biography of A.C. Pigou has been sitting on my shelf since it was published a few years ago, but I just got around to reading it, and I very much enjoyed it. The book tells the story of the arc of Pigou's career--from a top student of Alfred Marshall, to a leader of his field, to a fading star struggling with age and declining relevance, to finally a content elder statesmen of academia. The general public won't find the book of much interest, but for economists like me, it is a great read. read more

“This Is Wealth Redistribution”: Blackrock And Other Institutional Investors Buying Entire Neighborhoods At Huge Premiums
As the real estate market continues to break records, a cabal of institutional investors has been tossing gasoline on the fire - buying up properties hand-over-fist as middle-American renters watch their dreams of home ownership fade at the hands of pension funds and other financial behemoths. "You now have permanent capital competing with a young couple trying to buy a house," according to real estate consultant John Burns, whose firm estimates that in many of the country's hottest markets, roughly one 20% of homes sold are bought by someone who never moves in. Could America's B-21 Stealth Bomber Also Become a Dogfighter?
*Robert Farley* *B-21, Americas* The idea is intriguing, but has some problems. *Here's What You Need to Know*: The idea of a B-21 optimized for air-to-air combat makes some sense, given existing trends in the development of weapons and sensors. Recent reports about the B-21 Raider suggest that the plane might have a mission that U.S. bombers have not had for a very long time: air-to-air combat. If the Air Force continues to pursue this line of thought, it will revive a concept that dominated airpower theory in the early age of aviation, but that fell by the wayside because of t... read more
