Taking The Guess Work Out Of Who's The Worst Governors

DownWithTyranny at DownWithTyranny! - 1 hour ago
Earlier today, *Morning Consult* released it's latest survey on how the citizens of the 50 states view their own governors. Sam Brownback (R-KS) has both the highest disapproval ranking (71%) and the lowest approval ranking (23%). That guy is dogshit. Well... this disapproval of Brownback and his policies by Kansas voters is hardly new. When he was up for reelection 2 years ago he was just as hated and polls tended to show him losing. The last poll I found showed him losing the election 39-43%. 24% of Republicans said they were going to vote for Paul Davis, Minority Leader of the ... more »

In Auckland, we’re still making affordable housing impossible

Peter Cresswell at Not PC - 3 hours ago
The authors of Auckland’s Unitary Plan took on the issue of how the city should be *allowed *to grow by the planners. Disallowing people’s freedom to choose themselves how the fuck they live, they characterised it as a choice between up versus out. The best choice within this perverted planning framework would have been to say both-and. The worst choice if you want to cure Auckland’s rampant housing affordability problem (for which, I remind you, we have the world’s gold medal) would be to largely prohibit building out in favour of building up. No, unions don't increase everyone's wages

Peter Cresswell at Not PC - 5 hours ago
*Where would all workers be without unions? Probably much better off says Gary Galles in this guest post.* There is a well-established tradition in which unions claim credit for every worker gain. Among their most common assertions, often incorporated in attributing negative wage trends to eroding union power, is that unions raise *all* workers’ wages. Unfortunately, while sometimes raising those of their own members, unions retard rather than raise the real earning power of all workers in general. Unions leverage special government-granted powers (e.g., unique exemptions fro... more »

Some Critical Advice for Jeremy Corbyn

Regardless of what we think about him, we're going to be discussing Jeremy Corbyn for years to come. *Decades*, probably. And yes, I'm about to talk about him a little bit more. As readers know, I voted for Jeremy in this year's Labour leadership contest. I thought it was important for two key reasons. First is a point well-trailed by others, and that's about the kind of party we want: an organisation where the members are sovereign and have a final say, or one where a parliamentary establishment is in charge with all the chicanery and stitch-ups that entails. Turning the Field Over to the Youngsters

I will post as many of the lost issues as I can find - but that will be at a later date] Reading Rufus' comments (FC 1911) on the Queen Mother's funeral I can only concur as one who waited four and a half hours to pay the last respect to her lying-in-state at Westminster Hall. Whatever the percentage of London is of ethnic origin it certainly was not represented by the people queuing. Indeed one could almost imagine that London had become white again (if only..) if the long queue was representative of the population. What this shows, which, of cou... more »

Hillary Clinton - And Then the Wheels Fell Off.

arclein at Terra Forming Terra - 22 hours ago
From the beginning we have seen a steady drip of apparent insider reports all impacting on Hilary's health. Her collapse on 9/11 served to make that issue central to the rest of her campaign. At the same time her bizarre reappearance an hour or so later opened serious questions about the use of a body double. We keep adding more questions and getting no answers. We have actually seen a cascade of troubling news for her including on the legal front that surely dwarf any issues Donald may face. All this happening when she should be out shaping her narrative. Cannabis Can Decontaminate the Planet

arclein at Terra Forming Terra - 22 hours ago
We are actually talking about hemp of course but this makes a better headline. The Russians have used several plants to clean soils around Chernobyl. Thus we are now getting extensive empirical data developed. The world is full of damaged sites that need this form of gentle remediation. What we need is a likely profile on the time frames. This is something governments can target and fund in much the same way that super fund projects have restored long abandoned mining operations in the USA. Certainly this is a vastly superior scheme to scrapping up the top soil and carting i... more »

This is an unusual observation. I personally think that the whales generally show communal intelligence of a high level and we need to succeed in communicating with them. They need to become our allies in ocean management and i think that a mutually beneficial system can be devised. Communication will have to start with mind to mind work as we are discovering with horse whispering in particular and elephants and large cats in isolated examples. From there it should be possible to understand and work with their language as well. Actual mind work will require close contact w... more »

What if Star Trek Had Never Existed?

In time science fiction would have gone mainstream. The fans existed before Star Trek and the explosion of STEM graduates only began right then. Curiously i really was on the ground floor of all that in 1967. We all were science fiction fans and the Star Trek quality existed in the literature then otherwise they could never have written it. Star Trek actually jumped the gun but all this was coming and coming fast. Recall that i used a slide rule until a decade after 1967. What a miserable device that happens to be. Read this carefully. The idea of cutting back dosage to a level where serious impairment is impossible should have been studied a long time ago. The immediate take home is that shrooms are likely the safest product available and are strongly indicated for brain workers in particular. They are contraindicated for physical labor unless one has carefully trained oneself in their application. As posted earlier, cannabis juice is likely the best way to use marijuana. Landmark Study Shows Half of Cancer Patients Are Killed by Chemo — NOT Cancer

arclein at Terra Forming Terra - 22 hours ago
This has been a reasonable testable conjecture for a long time. Now it is getting legs and the whole practice is been properly questioned. Understand that if any patients actually die prematurely from chemo rather than the cancer itself, then the actual statistics supporting Chemo's use are likely cooked. The reason i say all that is that reducing early members of a cohort throws the final averages way off when meant to be part of a five year program and would make a positive finding almost impossible unless real cures took place. The solution for researchers ... more »

I have reached a point in my deliberations in which it has become possible to address what we mean by these words with some clarity. Discussing the history is pointless as all have been exposed to the concepts from multiple historic contexts and this is actually much of the origin of most of our confusion. What we have discovered is that the world of spirit is physically as real as my hand. This is huge simply because it represents a complete rejection of the whole mystical agenda of spiritualism in which intangible claims are made about intangible figments of the imagination.... more »

This might really be useful. You pulverize orange and avocado peels to form a mush and spread it out in the sun to drive the polymerization of the compounded material. It would also dehydrate as well allowing storage and shipping. From all that it is no trick at all to blend in some fertilizer and soil to form a seed bed for your crop. After all that you sparingly add water from time to time to the slightly buried seed bed.. Why a four-day workweek is not good for your health

arclein at Terra Forming Terra - 22 hours ago
Yes, this is a question that must be asked. I have come to the conclusion that four hour work shifts work literally for everyone as a standard. It leaves open doing a second or third shift but that obviously comes with additional issues. What this item points out is that a twelve hour shift while attractive will need to be well planned in order to maintain output quality.. Inasmuch as lunch is usually included in the work schedule, it may be effective to book four hour shifts with an hour break and learn to plan that way. This becomes a natural nine hour day and add in travel ... more »

Evidence Shows Osama bin Laden Actually Died In 2001

Evidence has emerged that Osama bin Laden actually died in December 2001 in Tora Bora from a lung complication as a result of kidney failure, and not in 2011 as claimed by the U.S. government. The official version of his death – that he was killed in a special operation by Navy Seals guided by Obama in 2011 – was nothing more than a disinformation campaign by the U.S. government to prop up a failing Obama administration. By examining mainstream news reports from the era, many of which have been scrubbed from the internet and are now only available in archives, we can gain a more a... more »

More good advice from Bill Bonner ...although I'll have to clarify a couple things hes says about gold. First, he says that in 1980 the stock market "share prices were so cheap that you could buy all of the stocks on the Dow with one ounce of gold." I'm pretty certain that he meant one share of every stock on the Dow. But the bottom line was that "Today the stock prices are so high, that you would need 14 ounces of gold to buy (one share of each of) the Dow stocks." So he proposed a simple trading model: "When the Dow is worth less than 5 ounces of gold, buy stocks and sell gold. When the Dow is worth more than 10 ounces of gold, sell stocks and buy gold." This sounds reasonable to me, but I would modify his following statement that "The quantity of gold increases, but only about as fast as the quantity of goods and services that it can buy." There is a more powerful factor determining how fast gold metal grows, namely compared to the gold metal all ready existing, the yearly growth is only about 1.6% of the gold metal currently in circulation ...and these yearly additions will gradually get smaller in the future. Stock markets can go up and (likely soon) go down ...whereas gold changes only a percent or so in a year. Which will you choose?
