World Famous Anthropologist David Watts Weighs In On The Appropriateness Of Using The Term "Trumpanzee"

DownWithTyranny at DownWithTyranny! - 7 minutes ago
Monday we embedded a video, the one up above, of a deadly attack by a pack of chimpanzees on a solo chimp from the same group. It was part of a discussion about suspending the use of the word Trumpanzee and the phrase Señor Trumpanzee here at *DWT*. We referred to Jane Goodall and her book, *My Life With The Chimpanzees* as part of the debate after Goodall noted that "in many ways the performances of Donald Trump remind me of male chimpanzees and their dominance rituals. In order to impress rival, males seeking to rise in the dominance hierarchy perform spectacular displays: stam... more »

By Manifesto Joe My sense of fairness compelled me to hold off on attacking Donald Trump, at least for a while. I actually thought he might change as the nominee of a major political party. Might as well wait for the next glacier to move through Texas. The latest Trump travesty was him lamenting about how well the Manhattan bomb suspect was being treated in the hospital, that he will be represented in court by a good lawyer (perhaps), etc. Essentially, Trump was suggesting to his neo-Nazi admirers that he thinks that the U.S. should suspend constitutional rights for certain terrori... more »

Scholar: Texas Textbook an ‘Intentional Assault’ on Psyche of Mexican American StudentsSeptember 20, 2016 After reading the proposed *Mexican American Heritage* textbook for Texas students last week by Jaime Riddle and Valarie Angle, I can without hesitation state that it is obscene and extremely offensive. And beyond being unfocused, incoherent and a badly written book, it is also an intentional assault by non-experts and ideologues against the spirit and psyche of Mexican American students. More good advice from Bill Bonner ...although I'll have to clarify a couple things hes says about gold. First, he says that in 1980 the stock market "share prices were so cheap that you could buy all of the stocks on the Dow with one ounce of gold." I'm pretty certain that he meant one share of every stock on the Dow. But the bottom line was that "Today the stock prices are so high, that you would need 14 ounces of gold to buy (one share of each of) the Dow stocks." So he proposed a simple trading model: "When the Dow is worth less than 5 ounces of gold, buy stocks and sell gold. When the Dow is worth more than 10 ounces of gold, sell stocks and buy gold." This sounds reasonable to me, but I would modify his following statement that "The quantity of gold increases, but only about as fast as the quantity of goods and services that it can buy." There is a more powerful factor determining how fast gold metal grows, namely compared to the gold metal all ready existing, the yearly growth is only about 1.6% of the gold metal currently in circulation ...and these yearly additions will gradually get smaller in the future. So sell your stocks now and buy gold while it's still cheep.

A study published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences reveals that pigeons can be taught to understand and are able to distinguish words from non-words. Gizmodo reports: Scientists trained the four smartest pigeons they could find to tell the difference between four-letter words and nonwords, and identify when a word’s letters were transposed (like “very” vs. “vrey”). The authors of the study measured the pigeons’ performance against both baboons and humans, finding that their ability to differentiate between anagrams “is actually more comparable to that of literate... more »

The One People: Distraction & Disinfo- the Co-Opting of Alternative Media

D ... Breaking The Silence at Removing The Shackles - 18 hours ago
This weeks show opened up with a question, and the response from the live audience was a little bit overwhelming!! I've created a poll below to expand on the original question and to try and get a broader spectrum response. The poll is embedded below last nights video please take 2 minutes and answer the 4 questions. Distraction seems to be the order of the day. Or year, lol. and of course what is it that "they" are distracting us from? Has the "Alternative Media" become largely coopted, to be used as a tool of distraction and disinformation? On Monday, the Tulsa Police Department released footage of the fatal shooting of 40-year-old Terence Crutcher. Sputnik reports: A pastor who watched the video the day before it was released asserted that the man’s “hands were in the air,” prior to the footage being made public on Monday afternoon. *BBC:* *North Korea's ground test of rocket engine is 'a success'* North Korea has carried out a "successful" ground test of a new rocket engine to launch satellites, state media says. Kim Jong-un, the country's leader, asked scientists and engineers to make preparations for a satellite launch as soon as possible, KCNA reported. It is the latest in a series of missile-related tests this year. Meanwhile, the US and China have agreed to step up co-operation at the UN to address the North's fifth nuclear test. *BBC:* *Syria conflict: Aid convoy hit by 'air strike' near Aleppo* A convoy of aid trucks has been hit by an air strike near the Syrian city of Aleppo, reports say, hours after the military declared the current cessation of violence was over. One unconfirmed report said 12 people were killed in the attack near the town of Urm al-Kubra. A UN spokesman said at least 18 of 31 trucks had been hit but could not confirm it was by an air strike. UN Special Envoy for Syria, Staffan de Mistura, said it was an "outrage". "The convoy was the outcome of a long process of permission and pre... more »

Sean Adl-Tabatabai at Your News Wire - 21 hours ago
A UN aid convoy of 31 trucks was hit by an airstrike on Monday, killing 12 people, and sparking ‘outrage’ from the US State Department who blame Russia for the attacks. US State Department spokesman John Kirby immediately pointed the finger at Moscow for the attacks, saying that “the destination of this convoy was known to the Syrian regime and the Russian Federation and yet these aid workers were killed in their attempt to provide relief to the Syrian people.” Scene where humanitarian aid convoy struck by Russian/Syrian airstrike in #Aleppo countryside @Conflicts pic.twitter.com... more »

*"Food Discoveries for Brain Fitness"* by Trevorponder "Eating a nutrient-dense breakfast has long been touted as a way to boost the brain’s memory and creativity. Now, Agricultural Research Service studies are showing that eating a healthful diet over a lifetime can improve the condition of the brain as people reach their twilight years. “Dementia” is a general term for a loss of memory and other mental abilities that is severe enough to interfere with daily life. It is caused by physical changes in the brain. While Alzheimer’s disease is the most common type of dementia, there a... more »

*"Do We Really Want War with Russia?"* By Eric S. Margolis "War with Russia appears increasingly likely as the US and its NATO satraps continue their military provocations of Moscow. As dangers mount, our foolish politicians should all be forced to read, and then re-read, Prof. Christopher Clark’s magisterial book, ‘The Sleepwalkers: How Europe Went to War in 1914.’ What is past increasingly appears prologue. Prof. Clark carefully details how small cabals of anti-German senior officials in France, Britain and Russia engineered World War I, a dire conflict that was unnecessary, idio... more »

*"World War III: Why Russia Will Bury the West"* by Rakesh Krishnan Simha "If a global war breaks out, here are the key factors that could decide the outcome in Russia’s favor. In June 2014, the Pentagon conducted a “table top” exercise– a sort of war game between Russia and NATO. The scenario was Russian pressure on NATO member Estonia and Latvia. Would NATO be able to defend those countries? “The results were dispiriting,” Julia Ioffe writes in "Foreign Policy." Even if all US and NATO troops stationed in Europe were dispatched to the Baltics– including the 82nd Airborne, which is... more »

Waaaaah! Grifters Whine about "Prolife" Cheapskates

noreply@blogger.com (fern hill) at DAMMIT JANET! - 1 day ago
This is amusing. Fetus-freak grifters complain about anti-choice cheapskates. (Bold mine, italics in original.) The number of Americans who self-identify as pro-life is very high, and most of them are philanthropic. In fact, about sixty million adults who give to some sort of cause also share a pro-life worldview. However, only about *one in six* of those generous adults engage financially in efforts to end abortion. And among those who *do* support the cause monetarily, the estimated contribution per adult is *less than one hundred dollars per year* . More whinging: These ardent s... more »

The Islamic State's Deadliest Weapon Is Its Ideology

Three Isil fighters pose in Ramadi the Iraqi army 'abandoned' the city Photo: Twitter *Ronald Tiersky, RealClearWorld*: *ISIS's Deadliest Weapon Is the Idea of Heaven* Islamic State’s taunt that “we love death more than you love life” was always a threat as well as a fact. In extremis, soldiers might die to protect their comrades and parents would sacrifice their own lives to save their children. But they did not love death, let alone long for it. ... more »

Yesterday's Elections In Russia And Germany Seemed A Little Trumpy

DownWithTyranny at DownWithTyranny! - 1 day ago
There were no surprises out of the Russian parliamentary "elections" Sunday. They plan them that way. Putin's party, United Russia, won over half the seats in the Duma. If there was any news at all, it's that turnout was lighter than expected-- less than 40% (compared to around 60% in the last parliamentary election). Even the "opposition" parties vote with Putin when he tells them to. The Liberal Democratic Party came in second with 15.1%, the Communists third with 14.9% and Just Russia, a center-left party was fourth with 6.4%. Parties that actually do oppose Putin failed to get... more »
