"Distorted galaxy NGC 2442 can be found in the southern constellation of the flying fish, (Piscis) Volans. Located about 50 million light-years away, the galaxy's two spiral arms extending from a pronounced central bar give it a hook-shaped appearance. This deep color image also shows the arms' obscuring dust lanes, young blue star clusters and reddish star forming regions surrounding a core of yellowish light from an older population of stars. But the star forming regions seem more concentrated along the drawn-out (right side) spiral arm. The distorted structure is likely the resu... more »
Chet Raymo, “Sanctus”
*“Sanctus”* by Chet Raymo “Early in Claire Messud's new novel, “The Woman Upstairs”, the narrator asks herself and others whether they would rather be able to fly or be invisible. I suspect most who visit this blog would prefer to fly. Me too. Until lately. More on that later. For now I want to ask a less frivolous question, one more likely to split down the middle: Do you prefer, as a matter of personal taste, Romanesque or Gothic? Gothic aspires, Romanesque inspires. Gothic soars. Romanesque hunkers. Gothic seeks to let go of the earth. Romanesque grips like a barnacle. Gothic f... more »
"Heaven and Hell"
"A belligerent samurai, an old Japanese tale goes, once challenged a Zen master to explain the concept of heaven and hell. The monk replied with scorn, "You're nothing but a lout- I can't waste my time with the likes of you!" His very honor attacked, the samurai flew into a rage and, pulling his sword from its scabbard, yelled "I could kill you for your impertinence." "That,"the monk calmly replied, "is hell." Startled at seeing the truth in what the master pointed out about the fury that had him in its grip, the samurai calmed down, sheathed his sword, and bowed, thanking the monk... more »

Libertarians Have Long Been Waiting For A Smart, Respectable Candidate To Represent Their Values... And The Wait Continues
When MSNBC's colossal bore, Chris Matthews, sprung his gotcha question on poor, befuddled Gary Johnson about what foreign leader he admires and looks up to-- is there one YOU admire and look up to?-- he succeeded in getting himself into the next day's news flow. But did he succeed in making a dent in Johnson's 7% national support? Probably not. I'd wager that Johnson's fans like him a *lot* more than they like the annoyingly shrill get-off-my-lawn asshole Chris Matthews. According to Quinnipiac almost 30% of voters under 35 said they would vote for Johnson. That's gargantuan-- an... more »

*Terence Cardwell* A I predicted this would happen back in 2009/10 in my first article. This is NOT a once off event- it will happen again in the not too distant future and continue to do so. B. Any change in power generation f... more »
United Nations Caught Campaigning Against Trump
The United Nations has been caught interfering in the U.S. election by encouraging Americans living abroad to vote against Donald Trump. The elite global organization, becoming more and more desperate to ensure an establishment Hillary Clinton presidency, have begun ignoring the rules of their own charter that explicitly prohibits meddling in sovereign nation’s elections. A now-deleted tweet, which was posted to the official account’s 235K followers at 9:14pm EDT Thursday, called for “8 million Americans abroad” to “stop Trump,” and also included a link to the Avaaz.org activist w... more »
Is Your Glass Of Milk A Cocktail Of 20 Dangerous Chemicals?
What type of milk do you drink? Milk packed with steroids, sex hormones and malaria medication, or wholesome, natural milk that comes with an enormous list of health benefits including helping you lose body fat? A new study has revealed that a glass of milk can contain a mixture of as many as 20 painkillers, antibiotics and growth hormones. Using a highly sensitive test, scientists found the dangerous chemicals in samples of both cow and goat milk intended for human consumption. The results show how man-made chemicals are now found throughout the food chain. The highest quantities ... more »
“Kiss It Goodbye: Social Security Benefits Will Be Cut In 2017”
*“Kiss It Goodbye: Social Security Benefits Will Be Cut In 2017”* by Jed Graham "No matter who wins the White House in 2016, there’s no getting around it: Social Security benefits will be cut starting in 2017. A 1983 pact between President Reagan and the Democrat-led Congress to stave off an imminent Social Security financing crisis included a hike in the official retirement age from 65 to 67 somewhere in the far-off future. But that pact is pushing the limits of age-related reforms, even as a new funding crisis builds for the retirement program. The retirement age rose to 66 in tw... more »

*"Weekly News Wrap-Up 9/30/2016"* By Greg Hunter’s USAWatchdog.com "The United States is reportedly suspending diplomacy with Russia, and it also says it’s preparing military options in Syria. The U.S. has asked Russia to stop its bombing campaign in Syria, and Russia will not agree to do so. The U.S. is protecting ISIS and attempting to secretly overthrow Syria’s President Bashar al-Assad, Russia’s foreign minister told a stunned BBC on Friday. Sergei Lavrov granted the BBC a 20 minute interview in which he told the broadcaster that the U.S. had deliberately allowed extremist groups such as ISIS and al-Nusra (now known as Jabhat Fateh al-Sham) to wreak havoc in the country on behalf of American interests. Lehman got hauled off to the boneyard eight years ago this month. Cause of death: the subprime mortgage crisis. And its shade has been spooking the markets ever since. Lehman succumbed to a classic bank run. The Journal puts it thusly: “Lehman failed the way all banks fail: It ran out of cash and liquid assets it could quickly sell to pay clients and counterparties as they ran for the exit.” Now Deutsche Bank is in a similar fix. Was Zarqawi In Fallujah During The 2nd Battle For The City?
On October 13, 2004 Interim Prime Minister Iyad Allawi demanded that the city of Fallujah turn over Abu Musab al-Zarqawi or be attacked. At the time, it was widely held that the leader of Tawhid wal Jihad was within Fallujah and was using it as his command center. That is still believed today. Tawhid was definitely within the city, but was Zarqawi? According to several leaders within the organization he was not. According to two leaders of Tawhid wal Jihad, and a religious leader from Fallujah, Zarqawi was outside the city during the entire Second Battle of Fallujah. First was Ab... more »

Can You Be Fired For Your Facebook Posts? Yes (With Exceptions)
Do I really have to tell you to watch what you say on social media? Apparently I really do because I run into people all too often who were fired for inappropriate postings, emails, texts, or other comments. My best advice is this: don't put anything in writing that you don’t want posted on the front page of the company newsletter. Examples of social media firings I've heard of that stand out are posting cruise pictures while on FMLA leave (doh!), posting a foul curse-laden rant about the company (probably legally protected), posting a photo of a nude museum statue (a coworker compl... more »

Every successful city makes deals and provides benefits to their best developers in order to build out their city successfully. When did the Muskogean Peoples Arrive SE USA?
Quite the story actually. What becomes clear is that land availability was ample and that migrant peoples came in by sea from Eurasia and south including Peru. These peoples were settled but also quite able to move a long distance and to immediately resettle. Their land use protocol was easily abandoned and restarted elsewhere which is well to keep in mind. We learn that around 2400 BC we had huge disruptive floods in Ireland forcing evacuation. That surely meant that the land was ruined for a generation or so. Glyphosate Disrupts DNA Function Causing Alzheimer's, Parkinson

It represents a blanket condemnation of the glyphosate generally as a direct DNA interference pathway that can overwhelm our body's ability to counteract it. Thus it encourages all chronic disease by reducing the ability to correct its DNA. It could well get much worse as the application of Glyphosate has become insane in actual practice. There is a lag time for the latest surge to properly develop in terms of pathology. This whole protocol has to be ended and the sooner the better. .... more »

Alan Jones talks with Dr Jennifer Marohasy
Alan quotes John Clark from Burrado who wrote: *The Greens may as well have sent a message to the South Australians to save the planet from Global Warming, you are going to have to live part of your life in the dark.* People have been told to prepare for "hotter and drier" but are getting "colder and wetter." Alan says that the alarmists have told there were going to be floods; Jennifer's research shows that Forbes has a major flood every seven years. *They have had repeated flooding......1952 was the worst flood. In terms of rainfall, 1950 was record rainfall in Forbes........ye... more »

"The Financial System Is On The Cusp Of Collapse"
*"The Financial System Is On The Cusp Of Collapse"* by Investment Research Dynamics "DB stock is now in a full panic sell-off as I write this. It just hit another new all-time NYSE low on by the heaviest volume ever in the stock since its 2001 NYSE listing. It’s currently down almost 10%. No doubt the Central Banks will try to bounce it. Deutsche Bank may well be the scapegoat this time around just like Lehman was the scapegoat in 2008. Central Banks in collusion can prevent just one bank from collapsing. It was the co-collapsing of AIG and Goldman Sachs that prompted then-Secret... more »
"On Your Own Terms..."
"If the sun is shining, stand in it- yes, yes, yes. Happy times are great, but happy times pass- they have to- because time passes. The pursuit of happiness is more elusive; it is life-long, and it is not goal-centered. What you are pursuing is meaning- a meaningful life... There are times when it will go so wrong that you will be barely alive, and times when you realize that being barely alive, on your own terms, is better than living a bloated half-life on someone else's terms." - Jeanette Winterson

Hobson’s Pledge: Racism?
[image: 102758642] The commentariat is all aflame attacking the “Hobson’s Pledge” movement, launched this week by Don Brash. Their vision for New Zealand, they say, “is a society in which all citizens are equal before the law, irrespective of when they or their ancestors arrived in this land.” Brash warns in particular of “iwi participation agreements” in proposed RMA amendments that “would virtually entrench co-governance and partnership obligations with some Maori into local government, creating an under-the-radar constitutional change”; and cites the ongoing farce of Maori s... more »

Putin Would Be A Much Worse Problem For Trump Than Adderall Or Even Cocaine
A *NYTimes* intrepid team of reporters-- Patrick Healy, Ashley Parker and the indefatigable Maggie Haberman-- talked to a gaggle of Trump advisors who are tiptoeing through the mine-field of getting a little teensy-weensy pivot out of Trump about how he approaches debates. "A delicate approach to the candidate," they wrote, "is now in the works. Before his advisers can shape Mr. Trump’s performance for the next debate, on Oct. 9 in St. Louis-- which, contrary to speculation, he does plan to attend, a top aide said — they need to convince him that he can do better than he did in th... more »

*Daniel Lewis, National Interest*:* Why the Offensive against ISIS in Mosul Could Be a Disaster* Speaking at a press conference in New York on September 19, President Obama stood at the dais with Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi, and said that the battle for Mosul was ready “to move forward fairly rapidly” and that “we are prepared to help provide rapid humanitarian assistance.” The President and Prime Minister, I believe, are underestimating the challenges and difficulties that will result from the exodus of hundreds of thousands new refugees once the military operation to cl... more »

How about MISTER Piggy? How Trump Uses Expensive Doctors To Make Himself Look Less Porcine
By now, everyone knows the story of former Miss Universe Alicia Machado-- first explained at this blog in last June-- but the way Trump treated her was not unique to his attitude-- and actions-- towards women he did business with. He has a long, ugly history of discriminating against women who he didn't judge as attractive enough. This morning the *L.A. Times* reported that when Trump visited his golf course in Rancho Palos Verdes "the club’s managers went on alert.
