In the wake of the global financial crisis, Western donors are now withdrawing funding from The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB, and Malaria. But if they fail to support the Fund, we could soon find ourselves facing epidemics that are far worse than any financial contagion.
In a match that some would say was made in hell, the nation's two leading producers of agrochemicals have joined forces in a partnership to reintroduce the use of the herbicide 2,4-D, one half of the infamous defoliant Agent Orange, which was used by American forces to clear jungle during the Vietna...
“We have to create culture, don't watch TV. Create your own roadshow. If you're worrying about Michael Jackson or Bill Clinton or somebody else, then you are disempowered, you're giving it all away to icons, icons which are maintained by an electronic media so that you want to dress like X or have lips like Y. This is shit-brained, this kind of thinking. That is all cultural diversion. You want to reclaim your mind and get it out of the hands of the cultural engineers who want to turn you into a half-baked moron consuming all this trash that's being manufactured out of the bones of a dying world.”

The United States and the European Union have recently slapped unilateral sanctions against Iran’s oil and banking sectors based on the unsubstantiated claim that Iran is trying to acquire a military nuclear technology.
The embargos came after the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) accused, in its November 8 report, Iran of activities aimed at developing nuclear weapons before 2003 and speculated that these activities “may still be ongoing.”
This is while Iran has rejected the allegation and steadfastly insisted that the nature of its nuclear technology is purely civilian and expressed willingness to cooperate with the IAEA to resolve the issue about the country’s nuclear case.
The United States, Israel and their allies and have used the same allegation to impose four rounds of UN Security Council sanctions and more unilateral measures against the Islamic Republic.
Press TV has conducted an interview with Webster Griffin Tarpley, author and historian, to share his opinion on this issue.

The eurozone economy is heading into its second recession in just three years, while the wider European Union will stagnate, the EU said, warning that the area has yet to break its vicious cycle of debt.
In this investigation for People & Power, Joe Rubin and Serene Fang of the Center for Investigative Reporting examine whether important safety considerations are being taken into account as the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) considers extending the licences of these plants.
The agency has recently come under fire for glossing over the potential dangers of ageing reactors, for becoming too cosy with the industry and for political infighting among the agency's senior executives, which critics in the US Senate and elsewhere say seriously hampers its ability to ensure safety.
The investigation focuses on the Pacific Gas & Electric nuclear facility at Diablo Canyon and two others, which are at Indian Point in New York and Fort Calhoun in Nebraska.
These three sites represent the dangers posed to nuclear power plant safety by earthquakes, terrorism and flooding.
Rubin and Fang discover that the NRC's oversight track record is far from perfect, and that unless urgent action is taken the US could be heading for a nuclear catastrophe of its own.

Op-Ed: "A confusing controversy between the United States and Egypt is unfolding. It has already raised tensions in the relationship between the two countries to a level that has not existed for decades. It results from moves by the military government in Cairo to go forward with the criminal prosecution of 43 foreigners, including 19 US citizens," writes Richard Falk. Just as weeds have found a way to survive the attack of herbicides and created mechanisms to survive, viruses and bacteria absorbed the shock from antibiotics and evolved through generations not only to become untreatable, but in many cases incurable.
In the United Kingdom, new bacteria and viruses turn out to be resistant to traditional medicines and now pose a threat greater than that presented by AIDS or a virus that causes a flu pandemic. E. Coli bacterium is an example of the type of menace that is getting out of hand. E Coli infection is turning into a disease that is impossible to treat. According to professor Peter Hawkey, from the Government’s antibiotic-resistance working group, the slow but consistent rise of bacteria that are becoming untreatable so far resulted in the death of 25,000 people a year in the European Union alone.
The battle continues against GMO. Sow True Seed, a seed company that offers non-GMO, non-hybrid, and open-pollinated varieties of heirloom, organic, and traditional seeds, has joined a class-action lawsuit against biotechnology giant Monsanto.

In regards to wheat, Monsanto plans to introduce GM wheat varieties but Mr Eggers said 82 per cent of the international customers said they didn’t want GM wheat.

Keynes wasn't always wrong.... Too bad the founders of the Euro forgot this.
"It was at Bretton Woods that Keynes identified one of the key problems at the heart of international economics – that imbalances in trade are next to impossible to resolve in a fixed exchange rate system without surplus countries accepting that they have as much of an obligation to do something about them as the offending deficit countries. As the eurozone is demonstrating all over again, the lessons have plainly not be learned."
Students of economic history are in for a treat. An official studying deep in the bowels of the US Treasury library has recently uncovered a prize of truly startling proportions – an 800 page plus transcript of the Bretton Woods conference in July 1944, the meeting of nations which established the f...
