The Spam factory's dirty secret-

The fact that news has become a product for sale is not new, nor is the fact that media has embraced celebrity over content and corporate sponsors over substance, and mindless entertainment over education and illumination.
Edward R. Murrow warned of these things in his RTNDA Convention in 1958. And now, 44 years later, it echoes with immediacy as though written yesterday.' John Cory, Reader Supported News

See, this is a special story. In fact, it is a love story, the love story of a breathtaking display of affection of Big Oil by the Republican party. The bill is a special Valentine, a love letter of the Republicans’ undying devotion to Big Oil. No others compare. The problem is that, with the Republican congressional leaders’ blind passion for Big Oil, they correspondingly demonstrate an animosity to American families and businesses. See, it’s been less than 2 years since the BP Deepwater Horizon disaster, and the Republicans in Congress now propose to drill for oil just about anywhere.

As the House of Representatives voted to open public lands and off-shore waters to drilling and experimenting with oil shale and tar sands, Kathy Castor, D-Fla., proposed a 5-mile protective buffer for the Everglades and the Great Lakes. The measure was rejected, 241-176, with 17 of Florida's House ...
Environmentalists are concerned with the possibility that fracking fluids may pollute the ground water in areas of high drilling. They are also concerned that fracking uses too much water in areas short of water. Further some fracking operations may lead to earthquakes. The services companies that can allay fears in these areas will likely navigate this potential minefield with the least damage. Halliburton (HAL) is a leader in this area.

Britain is in danger of fuel chaos as Iran stops its oil imports to the country.

Last week, the Tehran Times noted that the Iranian oil bourse will start trading oil in currencies other than the dollar from March 20. This long-planned move is part of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s vision of economic war with the west.
(Who started it ?  )
The US and Britain have urged Israel not to attack Iran’s nuclear sites. And while the West shares Israel’s unfounded belief that Tehran is developing nukes, top officials say a direct military response would be unwise - at this point in time.

The planned neo-colonial takeover of the Middle East is gearing up. As the heat rises, the West finds it increasingly difficult to proceed with its grab for dominance and maintain a brave face, says political analyst Adrian Salbuchi.

Protecting the cultural vitality of the Gitga’at people is far more in Canada’s national interest than piping billions of barrels of unrefined oil to China. When the Queen of the North sank, the Gitga’at protected the well-being of total strangers. Now it’s our turn as Canadians and fellow citizens, to return the favour, by saying “no” to the proposed Enbridge Northern Gateway oil tanker and pipeline project.

STOCKHOLM – The survival of BP PLC (BP) was at risk after the company was essentially shut out of lending markets following the Gulf of Mexico oil disaster in 2010, the U.K.-based oil and gas major's chairman tells a Swedish newspaper.
Let me get this straight. Now we have the perpetrators of the crimes, directly involved in the BP Oil Disaster, working on an "accord" to settle, confidentially, amongst themselves, their liability and responsibility percentages and payoffs? Does anyone else think this smacks of an insider justice system, when clearly the United States has it's OWN justice system, predicated on "We The People"?

Mitsui & Co.’s MOEX Offshore 2007 LLC will pay $90 million to the U.S. and five states for violating the Clean Water Act in the 2010 Gulf of Mexico oil spill, according to court filings.
It might surprise Americans to learn that in 2011, our nation’s No. 1 export was our fuel. That’s right. For the first time in 62 years, since Harry Truman was president, the United States was a net exporter of oil products. An estimated $88 billion worth of gasoline, diesel, jet fuel and other petroleum products was sent to overseas markets last year. Meanwhile, the price of gasoline is up 37 cents per gallon compared to a year ago, according to AAA.

The BP oil spill may have faded from the front pages, but its impact should be monitored for years. That's the lesson from a recent government-funded survey of the Gulf of Mexico that found more sick fish in the area of the 2010 spill than anywhere else. Marine scientists with the University of South Florida and other institutions need to continue their essential research. A minority partner in the BP well agreed Friday to pay a $90 million settlement, but the federal government and the gulf states need to keep holding BP accountable.

Researchers, including a number of marine biologists, have warned for years that jellyfish numbers may be exploding due to human activities, such as overfishing, warmer oceans due to global climate change, and the rise of oxygen-depleted, so-called "dead zones."

Evidence that jellyfish are taking over the oceans is currently lacking, according to a new study published in . Complied by a number of marine experts, the study found that while jellyfish have been on the rise in some regions it is likely due to a natural cycle of jellyfish populations and not a g...

Researchers at Dauphin Island Sea Lab in Alabama, who have been conducting a two-year study focusing on the diets of Tiger Sharks in the Gulf of Mexico, have made a surprising discovery: Not only are the sharks feeding on fish and other marine organisms, they are also feeding on land-based birds, such as woodpeckers, tanagers, meadowlarks, catbirds, kingbirds, and swallows. “We were not expecting to see this,” lead researcher Dr. Marcus Drymon said in a news release. “It certainly prompts a series of questions, the most obvious being, how does a land bird end up in the water as food for sharks?
