Call to tackle pollution 'role in 50,000 early deaths'
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/8578952.stm
Pollutants such as ozone, nitrogen oxides and "particulate matter" - tiny particles - from transport and power stations have been blamed for contributing to early deaths.

Particulate matter is estimated to reduce people's lives by an average seven to eight months, while in pollution hotspots vulnerable residents, such as those with asthma, could be dying up to nine years early, the report says.

Air pollution also leads to damage to wildlife and agriculture, with ground-level ozone estimated to reduce wheat yields in the south of Britain by 5% to 15%.

EAC chairman Tim Yeo said: "Air pollution probably causes more deaths than passive smoking, traffic accidents or obesity, yet it receives very little attention from government or the media.

"In the worst affected areas this invisible killer could be taking years off the lives of people most at risk, such as those with asthma."

The battle of Bolton and the media
http://exposethebnp.com/2010/03/20/the-battle-of-bolton-and-the-media
Anti-fascist protesters emerged victorious on Saturday after holding Bolton’s central Victoria Square against the racists from the English Defence League.
But mainstream national media reports are presenting it as a contest between two violent groups – and blaming the anti-fascists for the violence.
Anti-fascists faced brutality from police with dogs and on horseback. There were over 60 arrests – 55 Unite Against Fascism and 9 EDL, according to Sky news – including UAF leader Weyman Bennett “on suspicion of conspiracy to commit violent disorder”. The police commander made disgraceful allegations about the protesters.
Video on the Bolton News website makes it clear, however, that the violence was not coming from the anti-fascists.

Nazi terror plots – the untold story
http://exposethebnp.com/2010/03/10/nazi-terror-plots-%e2%80%93-the-untold-story/#more-14
While continuing to whip up hysteria over the “Islamic terror threat”, the media are ignoring a massive story – the rise of Nazi terror groups in Britain.

This week the BBC news website reported that “a man has admitted producing the lethal poison ricin while preparing for acts of terrorism”. The article made no mention of the man’s politics, stating only that he possessed a copy of the “Anarchists’ Handbook” for making explosives.

EXPOSE the BNPThe rise of the BNP and other groups like the English Defence League, presents a challenge for all of us who work in the media. Their ideologies are fascist and their express aims are to scapegoat and persecute ethnic minorities and Muslims, encouraging violence in pursuit of these goals. The BNP’s core political method is to lie to conceal its real intentions. It exploits the democratic process to achieve anti-democratic aims. Media workers therefore have a duty to expose the BNP. We must not allow the BNP to use the media as a platform for their propaganda. Contact: exposethebnp@gmail.com

Laughable: Top Military Official Who Oversaw Detainee Torture Now In Charge Of Reducing Afghanistan Civilian Casualties
http://pubrecord.org/world/7228/laughable-military-official-oversaw
Three months after it initially lied about the murder by US forces of eight high school students and a 12-year-old shepherd boy in Afghanistan, and a month after it lied about the slaughter by US forces of an Afghan police commander, a government prosecutor, two of their pregnant wives and a teenage daughter, the US military has been forced to admit (thanks in no small part to the excellent investigative reporting of Jerome Starkey of the London Times), that these and other atrocities were the work of American Special Forces, working in conjunction with “specially trained” (by the US) units of the Afghan Army.
