The Poet: Maya Angelou, “When Great Trees Fall”
*“When Great Trees Fall”* “When great trees fall, rocks on distant hills shudder, lions hunker down in tall grasses, and even elephants lumber after safety. When great trees fall in forests, small things recoil into silence, their senses eroded beyond fear. When great souls die, the air around us becomes light, rare, sterile. We breathe, briefly. Our eyes, briefly, see with a hurtful clarity. Our memory, suddenly sharpened, examines, gnaws on kind words unsaid, promised walks never taken. Great souls die and our reality, bound to them, takes leave of us. Our souls, dependent upon thei... read more

“8 Things to Remember When Everything Goes Wrong”
*“8 Things to Remember When Everything Goes Wrong”* by Marc Chernoff “Today, I’m sitting in my hospital bed waiting to have both my breasts removed. But in a strange way I feel like the lucky one. Up until now I have had no health problems. I’m a 69-year-old woman in the last room at the end of the hall before the pediatric division of the hospital begins. Over the past few hours I have watched dozens of cancer patients being wheeled by in wheelchairs and rolling beds. None of these patients could be a day older than 17.” That’s an entry from my grandmother’s journal, dated 9/16/19... read more
"The Mystery Of The Millions Of 'Missing Workers'”
*"The Mystery Of The Millions Of 'Missing Workers'”* by Michael Snyder "Something really strange is going on, and none of the “experts” can explain why it is happening. Right now, there are more jobs available than ever before. In fact, according to one recent measure there were nearly 11 million job openings in the United States during the month of July. There are literally “help wanted” signs all over the place, and so if you want a job you can go get a job. It may not be the job that you want, but the truth is that there are millions upon millions of jobs available. We are in th... read more

CDC: 16,310 DEAD 778,685 Injured Following COVID-19 Shots – 2.5X More Deaths than Following ALL Vaccines for Past 30 Years – 2,102 Fetal DEATHS
The CDC released more data into VAERS (Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System) this past Friday which included cases through October 1, 2021. The U.S. Government is now reporting that in the past 10 months since the emergency use authorization for the COVID-19 shots, 16,310 people have died following those shots. By way of contrast, prior to December, 2020, the date when the first COVID-19 shots were given emergency use authorization, 6,214 people reportedly died following ALL FDA-approved vaccines for the past 30 years. Further thoughts on Washington State
In a recent post, I pointed out that Washington State had much lower Covid fatality rates than California, which were in turn much lower than Arizona. I argued that the difference was probably cultural. An alternative hypothesis is that the difference is due to tighter regulations in Washington State. To get at this issue, consider […] The post Further thoughts on Washington State appeared first on Econlib. read more
When Lockheed Tried to Put the F-117 on Aircraft Carriers
*Alex Hollings* *F-117 Nighthawk, * Lockheed approached the U.S. Navy with a proposal for a carrier-based iteration of the famed “stealth fighter.” *Here's What You Need to Remember: *Despite first taking to the skies in 1981, the U.S. Air Force didn’t acknowledge the existence of the world’s first operational stealth plane until 1988–five years after the F-117 fully entered service. The world, however, was already vaguely aware that Uncle Sam was keeping some exotic-looking secrets in the hangars of Area 51. The introduction of the F-117 Nighthawk was a watershed moment in milit... read more

National Political Propagandist Anthony Fauci Expresses His Sadness as COVID Cases Drop Rapidly
Positive COVID-19 cases have plummeted nationally. Symptomatic cases as well severe illness, hospitalizations and death have also collapsed. Given the scientific discussion surrounding variant strength and transmissibility, my own belief is that the number of non-vaccinated Americans has stabilized; and the hardcore unvaxxed group, with strong natural antibody immunity – or strong immune systems writ […] The post National Political Propagandist Anthony Fauci Expresses His Sadness as COVID Cases Drop Rapidly appeared first on The Last Refuge. read more

A reader has annoyed me.
In my last post, a reader was deeply offended when I said nice things about China. Naughty me. It's possible I overstated the Chinese car market. I'm not sure. But China remains the world leader in sales of electricity powered cars - and the Chinese are going all the way on this. Their cars are also very cheap, mostly in the $4,000 range.(Most Chinese driving is on crowded streets. So I would guess these cars are not speedy. But what the hell, I could use a 4,000 dollar car.) The reader was also contemptious about Chinese housing. So let's look at that. Remember that China was for a ... read more

Bellingcat Funded By Contractors That Aided Extremists In Syria
Since its launch in July 2014, the self-styled open-source investigations website Bellingcat has cemented itself as a darling of mainstream Western media, with its dives into alleged Syrian government chemical weapon attacks and Russian intelligence operations showered with praise, puff pieces, and glitzy awards. Biden Tells Supreme Court Publicly Documented Torture Is A State Secret
When Abu Zubaydah was apprehended in Pakistan in 2002, the George W. Bush administration falsely characterized him as chief of operations for al-Qaeda and Osama bin Laden’s number three man. For the next four years, the CIA sent Zubaydah to its “black sites” in Thailand and Poland where he was viciously tortured. In 2006, Zubaydah was taken to Guantánamo, where he remains to this day. He has never been charged with a crime. The torture of Abu Zubaydah is thoroughly documented in the 2014 report of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence. In fact, several of the justices at the... read more

Sadrists And Fatah Expected To Do Well In Iraq’s Oct Election
(AP) Sunday October 10 Iraqis will go to the polls once again to select a new parliament. Moqtada al-Sadr’s Sairoon and the Fatah list led by Badr’s Haid Amiri are likely to do the best. That’s the result of two factors. First, the new election districts favor parties that can bring out voters and have the money to run multiple candidates across the country, and turnout is expected to be low. The new election law favors parties that have a national following and lots of money. Before each province was its own district, but now there are 83. That means parties that can get out t... read more
