* “Language is a conceptual tool—a code of visual-auditory symbols that denote concepts. To a person who understands the function of language, it makes no difference what sounds are chosen to name things, provided these sounds refer to clearly defined aspects of reality. But to a tribalist, language is a mystic heritage, a string of sounds handed down from his ancestors and memorised, not understood. To him, the importance lies in the perceptual concrete, the sound of a word, not its meaning…”* ~ Ayn Rand, from her essay 'Global Balkanisation, in *The Voice of Reason* [H...

Why Hitler's Ju-87 Stuka Was So Terrifying - And How the Allies Stopped It
Sebastien Roblin, The National Interest - 12 hours ago
*Sebastien Roblin* *History, Europe* [image: Wikimedia Commons] Over Poland, Stukas obliterated 70% of the buildings in the town of Wielun despite it being devoid of military targets. In France, Stukas notoriously strafed columns of refugees, driving them into the path of Allied columns. *Here's What You Need To Remember: *The Stuka was terrifying - if you were on the ground underneath it. However, the planes were not adept at air-to-air combat, as their losses during the Battle of Britain proved. Perhaps no weapon was as closely associated with the Nazi German in early in World...
The U.S. Navy’s Standard Missile 6 Is Coming to the U.S. Army

*Kris Osborn* *Security, Americas* [image: https://www.reutersconnect.com/all?id=tag%3Areuters.com%2C2006%3Anewsml_GM1DSWXNSOAA&share=true] It will let the Army strike further at enemy targets, including warships. The Army will soon fire the Navy’s ship-launched Standard Missile 6 from the ground as part of a new Mid-Range Capability weapons program designed to bring new dimensions to land attack. In a manner aligned with the Pentagon’s Cross-Domain warfare strategy, the Army will not only draw upon Navy software, hardware and weapons technology but also leverage Navy contract ...
Precision-Guided Missiles: The Weapon That Makes America a Superpower?
Robert Farley, The National Interest - 12 hours ago
*Robert Farley* *Security, * Do precision-guided missiles give America a tactical advantage while avoiding unnecessary bloodshed? Or have they complicated the projection of U.S. power? *Here's What You Need to Remember*: Precision-guided munitions helped the United States military destroy an Afghan government in a few months, with minimal footprint. What can they do against ISIS? How has the growth of the Precision-Guided Munitions (PGM) complex changed the balance of international power? More specifically, how has the U.S. military’s embrace of this system of weapons affected ...
Can't Buy an F-35? Russia's Su-30 Fighter Might Be Your Best Option.
Mark Episkopos, The National Interest - 12 hours ago
*Mark Episkopos* *Su-30, * She might not be stealth, but she sure is a killer. Emerging as little more than yet another Su-27 variant, the Su-30 multirole aircraft surmounted its unremarkable origins to become one of Russia’s most prolific and widely exported fighters. *History:* One of the most capable Soviet fighters of the late Cold War, the Su-27 was a showcase of best-in-class Soviet technologies meant to defend Soviet airspace against NATO bombers and air superiority fighters alike. But Soviet airspace is inconveniently vast, and, with the Cold War competition raging acr...
How Japan Could Have Won World War II (Hint: See the Photo)
Sebastien Roblin, The National Interest - 12 hours ago
*Sebastien Roblin* *Security, * During World War II, Japan infamously deployed biological weapons in attacks that infected and killed thousands of Chinese citizens. *Here's What You Need To Remember: *Just as air raids broadly targeting the civilian populations generally proved both cruel and of little military effectiveness during World War II, biological weapons were mostly “useful” for killing civilians. And if a bioweapon ever *had *proven successful in triggering a pandemic, such an outcome could have proven disastrous for both sides of the conflict. During World War II, Ja...
Trump Is Gone, But Trumpism Remains
ROME, Nov 11 (IPS) - Now it is clear that Joe Biden is the new president of the United States. It is unlikely that Donald Trump's legal manoeuvring will change the election results, as when a conservative Supreme Court in 2000 decided in favour of George Bush over Al Gore, who lost by 535 votes. Peacekeeping is a Double-Edged Sword
CANBERRA, Australia, Nov 11 (IPS) - UN peacekeeping dangerously overlooks the reality that peace operations have both unintended and negative consequences. Any intervention into the politics and culture of a community is bound to create tensions between local practices and foreign peacebuilding practices. Trump Must Out the Deep State
Steve Brown, null - 14 hours ago
[image: undefined] Whether the US 2020 election was truly stolen or not we will likely never know. The president himself doesn’t know since he failed to purge the palace that embarked on the palace coup that has seemingly toppled him. Booting Mark ‘Raytheon’ Esper after the fact simply highlights this fact. Now, Mr. Trump will have to put on his thinking cap and grasp the Machiavellian reality of the perverse Washington cesspool he has presided over for nearly four years -- and come up with a plan. Trump can use his deal-making skills to court the Evil Empire’s titular head, but w...
'Shredding The Fabric Of Our Democracy': Biden Aide Signals Push For Greater Censorship On The Internet
Jonathan Turley, null - 14 hours ago
[image: undefined] We have been discussing the calls for top Democrats for increased private censorship on social media and the Internet. President-elect Joe Biden has himself called for such censorship, including blocking President Donald Trump’s criticism of mail-in voting. Now, shortly after the election, one of Biden’s top aides is ramping up calls for a crackdown on Facebook for allowing Facebook users to read views that he considers misleading — users who signed up to hear from these individuals. Bill Russo, a deputy communications director on Biden’s campaign press team, twee...
What’s Wrong with Trump’s Investigating Election Fraud?
Jacob G. Hornberger, null - 14 hours ago
[image: undefined] For the life of me, I just don’t get the mainstream media’s vehement objections to President Trump’s desire to investigate whether Joe Biden ending up winning the election through fraud. Their argument, repeated from the very moment that Biden was declared the winner and ever since, is that Trump’s claims of fraud are “false” and “baseless.” But secrecy is normally at the core of fraud. While there might be isolated cases where, say, a person is caught voting twice, it’s rare that massive fraud manifests itself immediately. It usually takes an investigation to fe...

Will A Biden Administration Go To War Against China Over Taiwan?
War News Updates Editor, War News Updates - 14 hours ago
*Alexander Görlach, DW:** Opinion: Will Joe Biden go to war with China for Taiwan? * The relationship between the United States and China will be a central issue for Joe Biden's presidency, Alexander Görlach writes. And the United States will have to make clear exactly where it stands on Taiwan. The hard-line course that Donald Trump has taken as president toward the People's Republic of China is one supported by many US Democrats, as well. Amid all the domestic political turbulence of the Trump era, the issues of Hong Kong and Taiwan — two places continually threatened by Beijing...

How can anyone deny what is now beyond reasonable doubt?
Peter, Bayou Renaissance Man - 15 hours ago
I've been astonished at the moral and ethical blindness of some of my left-wing acquaintances over the 2020 Presidential election. These are people with whom I may disagree over politics, social policy, and other issues, but whom I'd believed were nevertheless rational, reasonable, thinking human beings who could weigh up both sides of an issue and recognize truth when it presents itself. Instead, almost unanimously, they're denying the mathematical and statistical reality that confronts us, and insisting that "evidence" or "proof" must be provided before they'll admit that e...
