So Much for Income Tax Privacy

[image: undefined] How many times have we been told that the information we send to the Internal Revenue Service in our federal income tax returns is guaranteed to be kept confidential? So much for that myth, as President Trump can now attest. The New York Times somehow secured a copy of Trump’s income tax returns and is excitedly telling the world what they contain. One thing is for sure: If the president of the United States can’t keep his income tax returns private, no one else can either. From the very start of Trump’s quest for the presidency, the mainstream press has been ob...

How Does A Virus Win?
News Staff, Science 2.0 blogs - 12 hours ago
To estimate infection rates of viruses like SARS-CoV-2, immunologists use a basic reproduction number, known as R0 (pronounced “R naught”) - an expression of the number of people likely to catch a disease from one contagious person - and a Susceptible-Infected-Removed (SIR) model. Yet as we have seen, those are only telling part of the science story. Coronavirus is in the same family as the common cold and for many COVID-19 will be just like the cold, and can spread like the cold. But when it comes to successful transmission, viruses only win they can optimize their aptitude to surv...

That's a very serious question. We're in a very difficult economic situation right now in the USA, and one of the consequences might be - not "will be", necessarily, but *might* be - hyper-inflation, as seen in the Weimar Republic or Zimbabwe during the past century. At the very least, a severe bout of inflation is not unlikely, even if it doesn't reach hyper-inflation levels. Joe Biden channeled Trump and avoided taxes by making a Subchapter S corporation
trinko, Conversations about the obvious - 15 hours ago
The NYT is making a huge deal about the fact that Trump uses perfectly legal techniques enshrined in tax law that I'm fairly sure Joe Biden voted for to minimize how much taxes he pays. Given that Bill Clinton used to claim a $2 deduction for every pair of used underwear he donated to charity it's hard to see how any Democrat, like the NYT, can condemn Trump for using the tax law too. Actually since there is no way that Clinton's used underwear was worth $2 in the 1980s Clinton wasn't avoiding taxes by using the law but evading taxes by lying about the value of the underwear. Wh...
Why "pro-choice" people aren't.
trinko, Conversations about the obvious - 15 hours ago
Some abortion advocates will get upset and say pro-lifers are lying when they say that abortion advocates are not "pro-choice" they're pro-abortion. Here are a few reasons why pro-aborts are pro-aborts not "pro-choice" Many pro-aborts either approved of or refused to condemn the forced abortion policy of China where women are forced to have abortions whether they want to or not; no choice for the mother. Many pro-aborts approve of the HHS mandate that requires people who oppose abortion to provide abortion coverage for their employees; no choice for Christians. Many pro-aborts appr...

Particle Physics deals with the study of the elementary constituents of matter, and the interactions that they withstand. When a non-insider hears of elementary particles and the experiments that study them, probably their mind goes to experiments at the Large Hadron Collider, CERN's giant accelerator of protons and heavy ions that produced the collisions used by the ATLAS and CMS experiments in 2012 to discover the Higgs boson. The association with LHC and the Higgs particle is very likely because that discovery took the media by storm when it was announced, and rightly so. read more

North Korean Military Modernization: How Should America Respond?
Harry J. Kazianis, The National Interest - 13 hours ago
*Harry J. Kazianis* *Security, Asia* North Korea is now a nuclear-armed state that could soon—or already has—the capability to strike the United States with ICBMs. The National Interest and the Center for the National Interest’s Korean Studies Program asked Gordon Chang, Dr. James Holmes and Bruce Bennett in a recent online panel what happens next. North Korea’s seemingly rapid ascent to *de facto* nuclear weapons state with long-range missiles that threaten the U.S. homeland was no accident. Through decades of testing, countless starts and stops, and billions of dollars of r...
North Korea's Ground Forces: A Bloated, Backward and Crippled Mess
Mark Episkopos, The National Interest - 13 hours ago
*Mark Episkopos* *Security, Asia* The DPRK’s army consists of 1.2-1.3 million active personnel with around 6 million more reservists, 6,000 tanks, up to 15,000 artillery pieces and much more. However, this is one really old and backward military force. North Korea’s defense budget occupies a staggering 23% of its GDP, by far the highest proportion of any 21st-century country. The DPRK’s massive military outlays have gone, in no small part, towards sustaining the fourth-largest standing army in the world. There is little question that North Korea’s prodigious ground forces are, an...

Addressing the UNGA for the second time, Khan delved on a range of issues, including money laundering, climate change, and his government’s response to the COVID-19 crisis. A Washington couple, Sophia Rosas and Sean Kilkenny, of Bremerton, have been fighting for their two boys for the last 2 years. Not knowing how to speak for herself in court, Sophia was allegedly manipulated and coerced by her public defender to do what the CPS social workers at the Washington Department of Children, Family and Youth (DCYF) told her to do. But now Sophia has found her voice, learned how to file her own court documents, and she says since she began representing herself, “Everything is changing so fast!” Prior to firing her attorney, Sophia says that she felt coerced ...

The second COVID wave has arrived in Ontario. And things are not going well. Bruce McArthur writes: On Monday, Ontario recorded a pandemic-record 700 new COVID-19 cases, and the premier said the second wave had arrived, and he announced a plan to hire 3,700 new front-line health-care workers, from, personal support workers to nurses, to deal with a surge. It's not easy, waiting to be saved in Ontario. The alarm bells have been blaring for weeks, and Ontario’s hapless chief medical officer of health, Dr. David Williams, is still calling 700 cases a “wake-up call” as if it wasn’t ...

Reclaimed Space Sprouts From Uprising’s Embers
Terrace, PopularResistance.Org - 14 hours ago
Minneapolis, MN – Without waiting for permission, growers began planting vegetables and herbs in an empty lot on Lake Street and 17th Avenue. Their aim was to reclaim the dormant land on behalf of the community who lived nearby, in whatever way they saw fit to put it to use. ‘Lake Street Open Growth Space‘ was the name chosen for this squatted garden. A ‘squat‘ is a reclamation of neglected or unused privately-owned property to transform it into a public commons. In August, we interviewed several volunteer organizers at the Open Growth Space (OGS). The post Reclaimed Space Sprou...

According to state department officials, the decision to cut aid came as a result of a direct “guidance” from President Donald Trump. Freedom of thought, tolerance, and inclusion, once foundational principles of liberalism, have been replaced by social conditioning and disdain for, and suppression of, opposing views. Public education is a prime example. Impact of Unionization In 1916, t...

COVID-19 vs. Seasonal Influenza - Which is the Bigger Killer?

In this posting, I will take a look at government data, in this case, from Canada, and compare deaths from seasonal influenza (2018 season) to deaths from COVID-19 by age range. Given the penchant of the mainstream media andn its over exuberance to propagate fear, the real, unreported data may surprise you. Here is a graph showing the number of deaths from seasonal influenza and pneumonia as reported by Statistics Canada which you can find at this link: Here...
