Judge Jeanine Pirro brings down her verdict on the Clintons
*Judge Jeanine Pirro* Must watch video editorial by a real US judge, Judge Jeanine Pirro about the ramifications of the obstruction of justice allegations against Bill Clinton and Loretta Lynch. Good to have my legal instincts validated by such an authoritative source! I never heard of this TV news analyst before but she and I are absolutely on the same wave length about the seriousness of Bill Clinton's meeting with US Attorney General Loretta Lynch. It is the end of the road for both of them...and for Hillary Clinton. Either that...or the US can kiss its legal system goodbye. ... more »
Tom Morello, Ryan Harvey And Ani DiFranco Record Woody Guthrie's "Old Man Trump"
To my mind Woody Guthrie has always been a model for young artists. That The Clash picked up so quickly on what Woody was doing in using his music to fight against fascism, helped rocket them to the top of my charts-- and keep them there-- from 1977 through *Combat Rock* in 1982. Meanwhile, Woody had died, just 55 years old, in almost a decade before The Clash formed. Last January I learned that Woody had written a song about Trump's racist/fascist father, Fred, "Old Man Trump" and wrote about it here at *DWT*. At the end of 1950 Woody rented an apartment from Trump in the Beach ... more »

Mikey Suits' Mobbed-Up Business Partner Doesn't Get The Same Sweet Deal Grimm Got
Staten Island Republican Michael Grimm was charged with 20 criminal counts-- instead of 200-- and permitted to plead guilty to just one, resign from Congress and serve a couple of easy months in a Club Fed prison. He's already back on the street. A Mafia-oriented career in crime that went back decades was never even looked at seriously because of Grimm's first-hand knowledge of rampant criminality inside the FBI. Alan Grayson Injects Poetry Into His Senate Race
I've known Alan Grayson for a decade and, until this weekend, I never knew he was a poet. It doesn't surprise me though. He has 3 doctorates and he's the smartest guy in Congress. Twas sixty days before election day, and all through the campaign Not a moment was wasted-- the staff was going insane. A marker for 'Marr'
Continuing with the Andrew Marr theme for a little longer... In fairness to the Corbynistas, I think Len McCluskey was given quite a tough grilling by Andrew Marr this morning and that, in contrast, Lord Kinnock, repeating his plea for Jeremy Corbyn to go, was given an extremely easy ride. And (forgetting about the Corbynistas now) the Andrea Leadsom's interview was tough too. It began with a bang by quoting something she said three years saying that Brexit would be economically disastrous - clearly following the lead of the pro-Remain, pro-Theresa May *Mail on Sunday* whose ab... more »

The New York Times reports: “Secretary Clinton gave a voluntary interview this morning about her email arrangements while she was secretary,” Nick Merrill, a campaign spokesman, said in a statement. “She is pleased to have had the opportunity to assist the Department of Justice in bringing this review to a conclusion.” The interview, which lasted about three and a half hours at F.B.I. Headquarters in Washington, largely focused on the Jus... more »
The Far Right Has A New Villain: Trey Gowdy
Wednesday Ken delved into the costly and meaningless farce of the Benghazi! report from the failed Trey Gowdy witch-hunt. Gowdy doesn't want to give away any of the suspense so he just answers any questions with a request that people read the 800 pages of drivel. At a press conference he admitted he doesn't wear a "Hillary Clinton Lied, People Died" tee-shirt. "And you've never seen that bumpersticker," he added, "on any of my vehicles." This absolutely incensed everyone who plans to Trump-- AKA, conspiracy nuts. Yesterday, MSNBC's Steve Benen looked at how the right-wing crackpot... more »

Donald Trump Tweets Anti-Semitic Image Then Changes His Mind
The presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump tweeted an anti-Semitic message on Saturday depicting Hillary Clinton as a crook with a pile of cash and a superimposed image of the Star of David with the message “Most Corrupt Candidate Ever!” Trump later changed his mind after drawing criticism and replaced the star with a circle. The original Tweet no longer exists. Politico reports: Trump tweeted “Crooked Hillary – – Makes History!” along with a photoshopped image of Clinton’s one-time avatar, which reads “History made.” Clinton’s face appears over a pile of hundred dollar bills, ... more »

IMF Stress Test for US Banks Operates to Legitimize Risky & Centralized US Financial Sector
I read yesterday that the International Monetary Fund has identified 3 banks as posing the greatest global systemic risks: Friedrich Geiger and Ryan Tracy (2016, July 1). The IMF said that ‘among the [globally systemic important banks], Deutsche Bank appears to be the most important net contributor to systemic risks, followed by HSBC and Credit Suisse”… … “The International Monetary Fund called the German Bank [Deutsche Bank] the riskiest financial institution in the world as a potential source of external shocks to t... more »
Update on Fukushima Daiichi Conditions
I'm still trying to determine whether the event July 1, 2016 (Japan dating) at Fukushima Daiichi was merely a trick of the light or whether some problem occurred at the plant. It gets worse
The sense that the BBC is now throwing caution to the wind over Brexit, impartiality-wise, struck me again with this week's *The Bottom Line *on Radio 4. During the EU referendum there was an edition of the programem called *EU Referendum. *It featured *two* UK Remain-supporting company chiefs and *two* UK Leave-supporting company chiefs, along with the head of the Swiss equivalent of the CBI. I remember finding it informative and enjoyable (as *The Bottom Line, *as a series, usually is). This week's edition, called *Life after Brexit, *also featured the head of the Swiss equiv... more »
Found: One swallow
I was going to say that everywhere I seem to turn at the moment I'm finding the BBC firing on very biased cylinders against the Brexit vote, and that the BBC hasn't been anything like this blatantly biased for quite a few years, but - put out the flags and bring on the Red Arrows! - I *have* found one counter-example: this week's *A Point of View *(on Radio 4) by philosopher John Gray. Called *On Brexit*, his piece argues that the EU has been been doomed for a long time. It's been collapsing from within for years. He said that the UK will fare much better than the EU after Brexit,... more »
