Judge Jeanine Pirro brings down her verdict on the Clintons

greencrow at Greencrow As The Crow Flies - 8 minutes ago
*Judge Jeanine Pirro* Must watch video editorial by a real US judge, Judge Jeanine Pirro about the ramifications of the obstruction of justice allegations against Bill Clinton and Loretta Lynch. Good to have my legal instincts validated by such an authoritative source! I never heard of this TV news analyst before but she and I are absolutely on the same wave length about the seriousness of Bill Clinton's meeting with US Attorney General Loretta Lynch. It is the end of the road for both of them...and for Hillary Clinton. Either that...or the US can kiss its legal system goodbye. ... more »

Tom Morello, Ryan Harvey And Ani DiFranco Record Woody Guthrie's "Old Man Trump"

DownWithTyranny at DownWithTyranny! - 40 minutes ago
To my mind Woody Guthrie has always been a model for young artists. That The Clash picked up so quickly on what Woody was doing in using his music to fight against fascism, helped rocket them to the top of my charts-- and keep them there-- from 1977 through *Combat Rock* in 1982. Meanwhile, Woody had died, just 55 years old, in almost a decade before The Clash formed. Last January I learned that Woody had written a song about Trump's racist/fascist father, Fred, "Old Man Trump" and wrote about it here at *DWT*. At the end of 1950 Woody rented an apartment from Trump in the Beach ... more »

A pro-Brexit poster from the United Kingdom Independence Party (UKIP) has grabbed the attention of the masses in Malaysia and the Philippines for all the wrong reasons. The U.S. Air Force's New Bomber Will Be A Smaller Version Of The B-2

War News Updates Editor at War News Updates - 15 hours ago
*Andrew Davies, Strategist*:* Air Force's New Bomber: The Mini-Me B-2?* Last year I wrote a series for The Strategist on the USAF’s new bomber program. (Parts one,two and three.) I was sceptical of the possibility of producing a state-of-the-art long range bomber for anything like the proposed unit cost of US$550 million (2010 dollars). The historical trend (see part 2) suggested a significantly higher price. But I also observed that bomber costs ‘hit the wall’ with the B-2 and that new approaches are needed. We haven’t learned much about the new bomber in the intervening 15 month... more »

*New York Times*: *F.B.I. Interviews Hillary Clinton Over Private Email Server* The F.B.I. interviewed Hillary Clinton on Saturday morning for its investigation into whether she or her aides broke the law by corresponding through a private email server set up for her use as secretary of state, a controversy that has dogged her presidential campaign and provided fodder for her political rivals. The voluntary interview, which took place over three and a half hours at the F.B.I. headquarters in Washington, largely focused on the Justice Department’s central question: Did the actions... more »

The Dark Night of the Drone Presidency

Karen Garcia at Sardonicky - 1 day ago
Just when millions of Americans were starting to do their patriotic thing by getting out of town, firing up the grill, and festooning the landscape with the Red, White and Blue, the government finally released its long-awaited report on the innocent people it has killed with its drones. The only thing more cynical, cowardly and depraved than the pre-4th of July dumping of the report is its deeply dishonest content. According to the Bureau of Investigative Journalism, which has spent years counting the drone dead, the Obama administration's figures (between 64 and 116 civilian fatali... more »

Making The House Better Has Nothing To Do With The DCCC

DownWithTyranny at DownWithTyranny! - 1 day ago
Last month Jason the Greek, a Kos diarist, talked about six little-noticed, underfunded but exceptionally important House candidates. The Democrats would need to net 30 seats to evict Ryan from the Speaker's job and take control of the House. Jason seems more optimistic than I do that this is possible. I contend that because of endemic DCCC incompetence and corruption-- manifested, for example, by suicidally horrendous candidate recruitment-- even the anti-Trump tsunami I'm expecting won't do the trick for the Dems. The Dems currently have 34 Red to Blue candidates, most of them tr... more »

Bias Hour

Craig at Is the BBC biased? - 1 day ago
Ms. Apolitical herself I've been blogging, on and off, about BBC bias for some seven years now and I've increasingly tried to be temperate in my tone and judgements. In all that time, however, I don't remember ever having heard anything quite so flagrantly biased as Tuesday's *Woman's Hour *Brexit special. I'm almost inclined to rant and rage about it. It really is the worst thing I think I've ever heard on the BBC in terms of naked, overwhelming bias. Not to be hyperbolic, but the bias wasn't just off the scale it was beyond any previously imagined scale and fast closing in on i... more »

*This New Law Ensures South Carolina Students Will Study the Founding Documents* The South Carolina Founding Principles Act requires the study of the United States Constitution, the Federalist Papers, and “the structure of the government and the role of separation of powers and the freedoms guaranteed by the Bill of Rights” to be added into statewide social studies programs. This bill, signed June 1, reinforces South Carolina’s Section 59-29-120 that required all public education students, both in high school and in college, to pass a test after a year-long class on the founding d...more »

*Is the ozone "hole" shrinking at last?* *As I pointed out recently, the ozone levels at Mauna Loa seem to be just oscillating across an an unchanging range, indicating no trend. And ozone is well mixed so at least that non-trend (if not absolute levels) should also apply over the Antarctic. And that does seem to be so. The "hole" too just oscillates, expanding and contracting in a random way. And in October 2015 the Antarctic ozone hole reached a record size. No shrinking there! Which is very frustrating to Greenies. But they were determined to find something to su... more »

Kiev Puppet Regime Increases Shelling of Civilians

Son killed & mother injured when Ukrainian government shelling hit a residential area in the Petrovka district in Donetsk. In recent weeks the shelling and attacks on eastern Ukraine have escalated by the US-NATO puppet regime in Kiev. The plan is to create chaos near the Russian border in hopes to draw Russia into Ukraine and give the US-NATO war project the excuse they need for full scale military operations with Russia. Up to this point Moscow has been supplying the self-defense forces in eastern Ukraine (Donbass) with weapons so that the people living there can protect thems... more »

The Chakrabarti report and other disasters

Believe it or not, I often refresh my *brane* by looking (through my impartial spectacles) at arguments diametrically opposed to my own. The Far Right Has A New Villain: Trey Gowdy

I was going to say that everywhere I seem to turn at the moment I'm finding the BBC firing on very biased cylinders against the Brexit vote, and that the BBC hasn't been anything like this blatantly biased for quite a few years, but - put out the flags and bring on the Red Arrows! - I *have* found one counter-example: this week's *A Point of View *(on Radio 4) by philosopher John Gray. Called *On Brexit*, his piece argues that the EU has been been doomed for a long time. It's been collapsing from within for years. He said that the UK will fare much better than the EU after Brexit,... more »
