24 July - Blogs I'm Following

We have received a DMCA complaint for one or more of your blogs. Emails with the details were sent to you and all affected posts have been reset to "Draft" status (you may find them by selecting "Drafts" on the "Edit posts" page for each of the affected blogs). You may re-publish the posts with the offending content and/or link(s) removed. If you believe you have the rights to post this content, you can file a counter-claim with us. For more on our DMCA policy, please click here. Thank you for your prompt attention.

Here we go again. Note at least the blog is available. Removing 'offending' material  may not be so easy. First you have to figure out what it is. On the plus side, search for the particulars of what is bitched about seems to have been working somewhat since the first go round at opitslinkfest, when at first nothing was working. Not that I have made any headway at doing so - and there is the question is it worthwhile in comparison to posting new material instead of banging my head against stupidity - some of which is undoubtedly mine. Such are the hazards of no budget publishing - even as I question whether I actually 'publish' anything at all. You might note Zemanta is not working. Why not ? I have no idea. After buying antivirus and antimalwarebytes for my computers, I mostly ignore the nonsense of malicious alteration of my links - though sometimes it gets to be too much of an irritation to ignore completely. Apparently there is some unavoidable loss of security when mixing data sources  even with http protocols. If I was not on Blogger things might well be worse ! Ouch.

Chirico v. Szalas, 2016 ONCA 586 raises an interesting point. Contempt can be granted for a breach of the "spirit" of an order . This is hardly new but here the "spirit" has been defined quite broadly; specifically surrender of a dog to a different party was considered to be a breach because both parties were "authorities". The case will be useful for persons trying to enforce orders: [52] The test for civil contempt is well established. Conrad Black lives on another planet than the rest of us. He is untroubled by the anxieties of those of us who are mere mortals. That's why he believes that we've misunderstood Donald Trump. In Friday's *National Post* he opined: Even in the week that he is nominated by the Republican party for the presidency of the United States, intelligent people fail in droves to understand what Donald Trump has accomplished. It was disappointing to read the editorial in this newspaper on Tuesday that “a Trump presidency would be a descent into the uncertainties of anger, bitterness, and divis... more »

The editors of the *Washington Post* agreed they would never endorse Trump, calling him "uniquely unqualified" to be president and a "unique threat to American democracy... A Trump presidency would be dangerous for the nation and the world." In case anyone wasn't paying close attention, the editors wrote that "The Republican Party has moved the lunatic fringe onto center stage, with discourse that renders impossible the kind of substantive debate upon which any civil democracy depends." How Complete Is Trump's Hostile Takeover Of The Republican Party?

DownWithTyranny at DownWithTyranny! - 16 hours ago
Jeb Bush didn't stand up to Trump convincingly enough but he hit the nail on the head in December when he labeled Trump the "chaos candidate." Too bad no one was paying any attention to Bush by then. Trump wants chaos. He's learned how to profit when everything seems to be falling apart; it's part of his business model-- part of whatever passes for a creed he has. It's why he makes oafish remarks that celebrate the housing collapse and it's informed his decisions on his own serial bankruptcies. And it accounts for the war he's promulgating against Ohio Republican Governor John Kasi... more »

Tsai interviewed in WaPo

*A little community lake in Miaoli* It's nice that the Washington Post interviewed President Tsai. Unfortunately -- as is all too common -- the Post interview went to someone who obviously knew nothing about Taiwan and apparently had hurriedly boned up on it. The introduction of the interview observed: ...Although China and Taiwan have been able to paper over their differences to date, tensions have been mounting since Tsai’s inauguration, when she did not restate the so-... more »
