Mosul: The Noose Tightens

*As noose tightens around Mosul, U.S. forces begin advising Iraqi units closer to front lines* Interesting the operation of *US Forces with Iraqi units* *vs* *US Forces embedded with Kurdish militias*? The news that US Forces will *not* be embedded with Iraqi army and assorted Shia militias in order to keep casualties down doesn't jibe with the fact that US forces, special operatives in particular, have been embedded with the Kurds at the frontlines in Iraq. North, east and west of Mosul. And there have been casualties. However the south of Mosul positioning of the Iraqi forces an... more »

Assange: Trump Is Unpredictable-- Clinton Is Predictably Bad... But That's Nothing Compared To Chris Hedge's Analysis

Team Hillary despises progressives even more than they hate progressive ideas. So, sure, they've done a piss-poor job of reaching out to Democrats and independents who were animated by Bernie's revolution. They were more successful in reassuring the disgraced-- and highly destructive (something they *still* don't fully get)-- Clinton hatchet man, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, that she is still part of the team even if they had to force her to walk the plank for the sake of optics on the eve of the convention, seeming to reluctantly give her up, piece by piece, as the hours ticked by a... more »

Our pre-season forecast was initially released in April — with the biggest concern in the Gulf of Mexico — which we then finalized in May, lighting up the western Atlantic and Gulf. The closer to the U.S., the bigger the worry about the intensity of storms this year given the very warm sea surface temperatures near the shore. That... more »

Bernie Sanders' revolution has had a profound effect on the Democratic Party. Once upon a time, that party didn't cower to Wall Street. Linda McQuaig writes: In the midst of the 1930s Depression, Democratic President Franklin Roosevelt showed backbone, championing unions, bringing in universal pensions, taxing the rich and restraining Wall Street with the Glass-Steagall Act. Addressing a wildly cheering crowd at Madison Square Gardens in 1936, Roosevelt vowed to defy the enraged bankers and financial tycoons lined up against him. “They are unanimous in their hate for me — and I ... more »

Guiding Hand of the Market Belied by Irrational Oil Production Practices

The US government and oil industry decided to ramp up US oil production through offshore drilling and fracking in order to stimulate the US economy and lessen overseas' dependence. This decision has increased pollution and environmental degradation in the US while helping flood the global market with oil. However, US and Canadian oil production CANNOT match the Saudi's and Iran's price points, which are less than $25 a barrel. Oil produced by fracking in Canada and the US must sell between $40 and $60 a barrel just to break even. Global oil production practices are fundamentally ir... more »

Election Justice USA Claims Fraud Cost Sanders 184 Delegates

Election Justice USA has released a 99 page report on irregularities in the Democratic primary elections, concluding that Bernie Sanders lost an “upper estimate of 184 pledged delegates as a result of specific irregularities and instances of fraud” – enough to have potentially altered the course of the nomination. “Adding these delegates to Senator Sanders’ pledged delegate total and subtracting the same number from Hillary Clinton’s total would more than erase the 359 pledged delegate gap between the two candidates,” the report states. “Election Justice USA established the upper es... more »

Today, I (the blogger) amplify Paul Craig Roberts’ piece below. In his second paragraph he provides a link which he says “The person who prepared this …is a bit crude in his language, but his point is nevertheless sound.” However, when I went to this link I spent maybe 15 or 20 minutes watching the video of that person, whose language I thought was OK but who might well have edited out a lot of stuff without losing the high points. I was about to leave this link when I realized that the work of a second photographer of the alleged truck massacre was to follow. It was at a different location and did seem strange. Then there were additioal amateur photographers displaying their work. I think it was the third one that was truly revealing. This woman found herself exactly alongside of the parked truck that was supposed to run over many people a few moments later. This place was not very far from the small town to the west where the truck was supposed to have come from. Yet in this moment it was surrounded by several individuals dressed as police who instead of approaching the truck were looking westward toward where truck had come from. The woman exhibited on her video several times the presence of fireworks in that direction, but she had no sound. However, she overlaid the official gun fire from the TV news, which indeed sounds like fireworks. Later on she checked the differing times of fireworks in the general area and found that the town from which the truck had come was to begin it’s fireworks at that very moment. Of course the official story was that the police told everyone ahead of the (still-parked) truck to run for their lives because there were shots being fired, thus leaving the fireworks/gun-shots behind them, as seen in the official videos. So it is no wonder that “the powers that be” are insisting that all evidence be destroyed. Moreover, if hundreds of family members and friends were actually killed, by now they would be demonstrating in the streets demanding justice. Is that happening? No! I can’t believe that so many people prefer to believe that they are attacked by foregn “terrorists”, when the terrorists are actually our own governments. I leave you with this thought: “Experience hath shewn, that even under the best forms of government those entrusted with power have, in time, and by slow operations, perverted it into tyranny.” -- Thomas Jefferson

The Universe

“It's no accident that when you look closely into the eyes of another, the very first thing you see, is yourself. That when you hold their hand, you can feel your own warmth. And that when you give of yourself, you give to yourself. Because, quite simply, both you and they are me. Freaky? Maybe. An accident? No.” “Let's get it started, uh-huh -” “Thoughts become things... choose the good ones!” www.tut.com

"Alive in Joy: Dispelling Drama"

*"Alive in Joy: Dispelling Drama"* by Madisyn Taylor, The DailyOM "Some people are so used to creating drama that a peaceful existence seems uncomfortable for them. There are scores of people in the world who seem to be magnets for calamity. They live their lives jumping from one difficult to the next, surrounded by unstable individuals. Some believe themselves victims of fate and decry a universe they regard as malevolent. Others view their chaotic circumstances as just punishments for some failing within. Yet, in truth, neither group has been fated or consigned to suffer. They ar... more »

Unitary Plan: Good news, bad news

Peter Cresswell at Not PC - 1 day ago
[image: RMA-web] Since 1:30pm yesterday, when it was released on the council website, every single person in this great little city of ours who is anything to do with land or building or housing has been huddled over their phones, tablets and computers finding out what our most learned lords and masters might be about to allow us all to do on our land. [Notwithstanding that “the very idea of a single long term plan for a 16,100sq km, largely rural region containing a rapidly growing and diversifying urban mass is flawed.”] I speak of course of the Auckland Unitary Plan. Police Problems

As we said yesterday at GOP Crackpot Candidate of the Week, Georgia state Senator Mike Crane had been favored to win the GA-03 congressional seat Lynn Westmoreland was retiring from... until he started advocating shooting policemen. Seems crazy, right? But state Senator Crane, a far right psychopath and loony ideologue who was heavily supported by the NRA, Gun Owners of America, the Tea Party, Freedom Works, Club for Growth, Ted Cruz and House Freedom Caucus chairman Jim Jordan, might not think people of color should defend themselves against police brutality but announced that e... more »

Is This Putin's Best Summer Ever?

War News Updates Editor at War News Updates - 1 day ago
*Nathan Kohlenberg, Defense One:* *Vladimir Putin’s Best Summer Ever* *Hacking the Democratic Party’s servers is part of Putin’s plan to prove that democracy doesn’t work.* Vladimir Putin has a grand strategy for Russia, and he has not exactly been secretive about its goals. “First and foremost, it is worth acknowledging that the demise of the Soviet Union was the greatest geopolitical catastrophe of the century,” Putin said in a 2005 national address. Through bodies like the Commonwealth of Independent States and the Eurasian Customs Union, he has sought to build Russian-dominate... more »

The Circus Spectacle of American Party Conventions

Peter Cresswell at Not PC - 1 day ago
*Doug French covers the American political convention spectacles that even from this distance have captured, and appalled, so many NZers.* This year’s American political conventions are not the stuff of 1924, when 103 ballots and 16 days were needed to select a nominee. Summarising that spectacle at Madison Square Garden, H.L. Mencken wrote *For there is something about a national convention that makes it as fascinating as a revival or a hanging. It is vulgar, it is ugly, it is stupid, it is tedious, it is hard upon both the higher cerebral centers and the gluteus maximus, and ... more »
